Soloq is unplayable.

The answer to this conundrum as Killer is to lose more. It's deadass to lose more. Remove sweat perks, goof, and you eventually lose enough to get down to a more cozy MMR.
The solution to this as Survivor is to pick your teammates yourself by SWFing, but you will still not win as much as Killer does by the game's very design. Oh well, at least you know your teammates aren't potatoes. :)
This is the state of the game's cruddy MMR system - you have to game it a bit if you want to have any fun longterm.5 -
I think the combination of map changes from mind game able loops to pallet loops and the devs aiming for 60% plus killrate with killer buffs makes soloQ very oppressive lately.
These changes make killers proportionally stronger towards the endgame while survivors have no ingame mechanics to turn the game back to their side.
The MMR system, which is not designed for asymmetric games and especially the lobby dodging on both sides, reinforces this effect even more.
For my part, I'm playing less and less. But the number of players doesn't reflect my feelings. That's why BHVR's course won't change.
Since it seems to be important to some people how many hours you have in order to weight your opinion, here are my Steam DBD hours (95% soloQ):
9 -
I'm not sure it's overconfidence.
Doing 3 gens at the start is kind of easy, it doesn't require much skills.
It's also boring.
With 3 gens done, it feels like the match will be over in two minutes and that's too fast.
Some survivors will want to go into chases and have saves,: it's more fun and it also gives them more points. But all this require more coordination and also more skills.
And that's where everything crumbles.
That's anyway how it felt with my last team. Relatively inexperienced players (well below the 1k hours) trying to do something else than hiding and doing quick-time-events. One was obsessed with totems and avoiding NOED. One really wanted to try to blind the killer (and she was already pretty good at it: we became friends after she managed to burn my Nurse to save a teammate). One had fun trying to be obnoxious which never ended well. (I'm out of that picture as my only goal was to help them survive.)

soloQ is simply too unreliable
If you get 4 decent players, you will escape against most killers, even as soloQ.
But it's unlikely to get that...

I used to get really angry at players who played very selfishly, as mentioned in the game's Steam description, I don't play survivor much anymore. Whenever I rescue someone, another person goes down and gets hooked at the same time, and when I go to rescue them, yet another person gets hooked, and this cycle repeats until the game ends. I haven't even touched a generator. The funny thing is that most of the time, when I get hooked for the first time, they just hide like cowards and let me go to the second stage.
For the killer side:
The new rank system is really terrible. I just started playing as a killer, and I’ve already reached red rank. Is this a joke? What is this MMR? Dude, just a few days ago, I was asking for advice on which killer to start with. Okay, I don't camp or tunnel, but I’m not playing that well either, this is nonsense. It shouldn’t be this easy. I really miss the old rank system, where it wasn’t this easy to reach red rank.1 -
Rank has nothing to do with MMR anymore. The only thing it affects is the bloodpoints you get on the 13th of the month, when it resets.
4 -
If you think it's too easy don't worry. Keep winning: you'll reach an higher MMR.
Then you'll know what pain means.
1 -
tbh, I loved you doing that right as people said "I'm escaping at least half the time" as if it follows that a killer can't possibly 4k all the time. And in you waltz with that 😂
Also find the people going "this means nothing" quite hilarious. As if you're the only on capable of doing that and as if the very fact that even one person can consistently do this somehow makes it alright (as a mechanic / game design).
(Also full disclosure: I'd absolutely hate going against you cause I hate when killers play like that, which is exactly the point you're making, I suppose. - But in this context it's honestly quite hilarious.)7 -
I appreciate the more personalized response friend but I think what I'm saying is being misconstrued.
I have noticed that survivors are just not great at this game after how long it's been around. Dbd has it's whale gamers and then the casual whom play for a bit then uninstall. The ratio these days is far worse, less player retention so less skilled players to face or team up with? Idk
I hope I'm not low mmr after having more than 500 hrs as a Bubba main. I got a 50 killstreak when I started playing killer and very soon after that the survivors were competent. The swf are a challenge which I throughly enjoy vsing as usually ends up with 1 gen left or a 2k. I can count on my hand how many 4 man escapes were had.
I absolutely have no issues with killer players slugging and coming back to hook. Tunneling is different as then the challenge is watered down dramatically and survivors can just stick on gens if I'm campy.
Also I dont blame Killers for being smart and effective, that's what keeps things interesting. My grievance is that survivor isn't worth the time anymore. No matter how well you play, your tm can always screw up everything so fast that it's just not worth queuing up.
The parallel is there as well, where everyone does so well that I can sit on a gen not interact with the killer and escape.

The game is over as soon as you load in if there is one weak link on the team and the killer is sweating. It's a cutscene. Killers have every tool to force the survivors into playing a macro game if they want, but survivors can't even see each other's builds. So much of solo survivor hinges on every player making the same assumption. It's absurd.
You don't even have carry potential as a survivor. The killer will just ignore any survivor who looks competent until it's a 3v1 or 2v1.
I've been playing for 6 years. I play a lot of killer too. Lately I mostly play Trapper with a single slowdown and most of my games are still stomp wins. The game is designed for the killer to blast the survivors right now. Matchmaking needs to be tuned better. The game does not respect your time.

'I just wasted an hour of my life trying to play but tbh there is so much of your control that it's just futile.'
very relatable every time I play tbh

Sometimes I get crushed, as a surv, killer not even slugging, bm'ing or else, he just good
Very rarely, i got a slugger at 5 gens
Last time, it was a nurse, one of those non existent streamers with 1 viewer (probably the streamer with another account)
When this begins to infuriate me, I switch to killers
But takin a break is good for the soul

My opinion is that it's more accurate to say solo queue does not have the necessary tools and is too hard to coordinate. If you have an expectation that 80 percent or 90 percent of a group fails to reach (not just in DbD but everywhere) the issue is more likely the expectation or the tools or training people have to reach that expectation.
After your 50 game win streak you were most likely at or just about at the soft cap with Bubba. It's quite possible you are at a very high MMR now with Bubba. As such, massacres like the ones you showed us could be quite common as if you have a much larger pool of 1600 MMR players while you are 1900 or higher. That's statistically a less than one percent chance for the 1600 MMR survivors to win but if that's all there is to match you with that's all there is.
I agree completely that BHVR is currently not valuing survivor's time. I find myself taking breaks because Killer is too easy overall so I fall into just memeing which gets boring and makes the situation worse. I don't mind camping where they hit the unhooker or slugging either as I feel like I get to play the game. With tunnelling solo queue doesn't have the coordination, cohesion or enough knowledge of what their teammates are doing to effectively counter it on a consistent basis and coordinated try hard SWFs are a small portion of the game. That could be what's leading to less player retention as I've noticed my Killer queues are lengthy now at times of day when they used to be instant while my Survivor queues, which were lengthy when I first started, are now pretty much instant implying that as opposed to before we have too few survivors queuing. I understand: it sucks to go into a match where you don't have the tools to do anything and get a pre-ordained outcome.
A lot of the miscontruals in this thread come from, at first glance, somebody would assume you're playing Survivor and they don't realize you're the Killer unless they examine the screenshot and see you're playing Bubba. I know you probably realize that; I'm just throwing it in to help clear up any confusion for anyone who could use it.

The current 1v4 feel like a set up given how the meta pretty much revolve around tactics. Matchmaking guarantee you someone who don't know what they're doing in a meta that require everyone to be some what coordinated. ain't the devs sick of seeing the same damn complaints???????? very few like going up against these tactics and most killers don't even like using them.

I always go back to your point about tools and knowledge when it comes to tunneling. How would the average player know what to do? How would even a high MMR survivor know what to do if they didn't pay attention to competitive play? Because unless a survivor intrinsically knows to lead chase as far away from available gens as possible, and ALL THREE teammates know to blast gens with perfect efficiency during that time, there's no feedback in-game about how to counter it. There's no replay system, no "here's how it looks in this upper skill bracket". The killer has all the tools to make the game as competitive as they want, and solo players are at the mercy of the matchmaking algorithm and sheer RNG. It's (to me), a ludicrous design decision.
So what happens? You have one player running after the killer and player being tunneled, because they don't know any better even after 1000 hours. You have one player on a side quest doing god knows what. And the poor 4th player with 5000 hours is slamming gens frustrated because they have zero agency or influence on the outcome of this trial. It shouldn't be possible for a portion of the playerbase to play a PVP game for an hour and have no influence on the outcome of half those trials.

Exactly. If I'm on a gen and somebody's hooked on the other side of the map and is reaching the point where they're going to second stage if I don't leave right then is somebody else going for the save? Are they hiding from the Killer? Is someone with Reassurance nearby? Will someone else pick up my gen and finish it if I leave? If I stay on the gen will the hooked person now suicide on hook since they second staged on one hook if nobody else rescued them and they're not expecting any rescue now or they don't want to be tunnelled straight off hook since they're now an easy target for removal? I have no idea, no way to find out and that's a very common occurrence.
Or, if the Killer is setting up a three gen and the other survivors haven't noticed it, how do I call attention to that? I have no means to do so.
A common refrain on these forums to try to deflect from whether or not there are game mechanics issues is that survivors are bad. It's a meritless argument in my opinion because if, after all this time, the majority of people can't reach it the problem doesn't lie with the people but rather either the systems, training and/or expectations.
It's very frustrating as you said.

It's the glaring issue with perks as a balance mechanism for mechanics. You have no way of knowing what situations you're about to face, but those situations are balanced by perks in solo queue. If you run an anti-tunnel build and get 4k'd by a Plaything/Penti/whatever build, obviously you should have psychically known to run an anti-totem build. Or vice versa. And if your teammate got tunneled out, you should have run BT+Babysitter or something. The proposed solution is always to travel back in time and equip the perfect loadout in the lobby. It's stupid. I can't help but think the players who make those suggestions are highly inexperienced one side players.

Let's hope 2vs8 comes back soon then this game might be playable again for soloQ. It's more casual and fun mode so even losing it's not that bad in it. Only really bad con of 2vs8 was that all my friends quitted or have taken long break after it left so I don't play much anymore. 2vs8 just needs to be pernament.
Also I could endure soloQ before when I didn't know how much better things could be. 1vs4 soloQ just feel you never really have chance. I kinda feel just giving up on hook. Really you need the killer to mess up badly to have chance to win.
I quess it's only killer for me to left to play but even that was lot more fun in 2vs8 and the bonus is on survivor all the time so then I just close the game. No-one barely uses cakes anymore so just bp earnings are so small.

you'd think with a match making system based on skill it wouldn't be as bad as it is. Its almost as if the skill based match making system doesnt actually factor in skill…. at all…
5 -
Your not alone in that. My duo partner said they just couldn't carry on playing and even 2v8 wasn't enough to bring them back. They playing dark and darker rn.

As a matter of personal principle I generally try to stay out of debates where others are very passionate, so my comment is purely for lightening the tense atmosphere (hopefully!) - I just wanted to say it made me laugh with the poem “rage, rage..” I fear many people playing DBD took that part rather literally lol
1 -
Yeah me too, I think with a swf, you can also laugh off disastrous results better than in solo.
I now treat my solo games almost purely as a means of hitting personal objectives - people who find my boon exponential useful, opportunities for good for the people timing, a loop lasting more than 10 seconds (this last one is proving rather elusive lol) - fully expecting to die but being pleasantly surprised once every 30 games or so to find likeminded people who end up adding to friends list and playing together going forwards1 -
That's my impression as well.

I blame the SBMM system more than anything. I frequently get matched with teammates who refuse to touch gens (even though they are not being chased), hide in corners and self-care when injured, go down 10 seconds after start of chase, hide in lockers, etc. It's very clear that these are new and/or downright bad players. I'm not a great survivor player, but I feel like I'm reasonably competent and certainly the days where I played like these potato teammates are way behind me. I have no problem escaping consistently when I have competent solo queue teammates.
The SBMM system IS NOT matching me will players of similar skill level - not even close. It's completely random, and I won't believe otherwise unless BHVR starts posting our MMR scores after matches. The system is shrouded in secrecy, and I believe the reason why is because if the data were made public, it would reveal what many of us already know: the system does not work at all. If the devs want us to have trust in the SBMM system, then prove to us that it is working as intended.
5 -
This is why I never play SoloQ, I get potatoes. I am not a bad Survivor, ask my SWF. But when I SoloQ? I get put with people who have never seen a gen in their life.
3 -
Solo Q has been a waste of time to play since patch 6.1.
Maps will only get smaller, kill rates will only go up.
Its only going to get worse.
8 -
The team mates in this game are probably some of the worst i have come across in any video game. It often feels like your team mates are way more deadly then the killer and that any chance of a normal game is in your team mates hands when they decide to dc give up etc..
3 -
Like Im pretty sure at this point that the SBMM is responsible for most problems this game is having atm. People just dont get matched in their skill bracket.
KIllers that get destroyed start camping and tunneling cause they feel its the only way they have a chance and then after a while adapt that playstyle for every game.
Survivors insta kill themselves when they go down to fast or against a killer that destroyed them before cause they assume it will go the same way anyways. Or they get matched with beginner teammates while facing a killer one Trick with like 1k hours on that Single killer.
After that both sides come here and complain that the other side needs to be hard nerfed and that the other side has all the cool stuff while they themselves got nothing
3 -
There's some people who I'm sure who are solos, who when I'm playing killer... They'll run me around and lose me several times. Fair enough right? But when I finally catch them and get them to 1st or God forbid 2nd hook, they'll hide the rest of the game and let everyone else do the work for them. Then when the exits are open, they're the first out while the others who did all the work end up dying. (or sometimes I let them go because F those types of players)

Dont worry we got that throw pebble game buff

After the games I've had today, thank you for this comment. It gave me a good laugh 😂

Don't forget number 5, where your the only one to do a gen and the other survivor rats you out for no reason.
