Why can't we see prestiges before going into a lobby?

Like, there is absolutely zero reason why we shouldn't be able to see character prestiges in swf lobbies (I don't think prestiges should be hidden whatsoever but thats another discussion) kinda ridiculous we cant show off our p100's anymore really to our friends or anyone else, revert this change at least, i dont care if the killer cant see our prestige

Both prestiges and perks should be shown in the SWF (not public) lobby.

Showing perks in the public lobby would lead to dodging. I've seen threads created where people ask for that specifically so they can dodge builds they don't like. And it would be even more telling than prestige of how new a player might be (a Dwight running only a single tier 1 perk is not going to be popular).

  • Yeah I have a different opinion about being able to see prestiges in game lobby, but thats not really the point of my post, I just want the swf lobbies to be able to see prestiges (they said perks would maybe be added "in the coming years" whatever that means)

You're most likely right, and if that is the case than perhaps they shouldn't show items either. I know survivors that dodge because of keys.

it maybe more complicated than you think to make it so swf can see prestige while non swf can't. Maybe they should change it so only survivors can see prestige in the lobby.

  • no lol… I'm only saying swf as in before readying up, thats the only lobby i care about in terms of seeing prestige, in my opinion it should have never been hidden from anything, but the only one i care about is the swf lobby before hitting ready up to load into a pregame lobby

it was hidden to prevent lobby dodging which happened to me almost anytime i picked kate. It should be hidden atleast from killers.
I know you meant the pre game lobby. You can see it in the end game lobby…

There are 2 different lobbies before entering a match. The first one is private, SWF only. Then, once everyone there is ready, the game looks for a public lobby with a killer and any other survivors needed to fill out the match.

The original poster is specifically talking about the first private lobby and excluding the second public lobby. Dodging is not a possible problem in the private SWF lobby. There's every reason to hide prestige in the public lobby but no reason to hide it in the private SWF-only lobby. Friends like to show off and compare progress when hanging out, it makes sense to allow it privately amongst friends.

  • The Devs have stated they can't do this - showing Prestige is an on or off switch, it's a boolean variable. It shows for everyone in the lobby, or nobody in the lobby. Any lobby.

Besides your SWF can see it at the end. Zero issue to be had.

That's not a surprise, I was involved in a previous thread like this one where I said something like that was probably the reason it was removed from both lobbies. Personally, I was talking about updating the private lobby to show more info overall (perks). That would mean more coding in general, at which point showing prestige privately could be separated from showing it publicly so it's not based on one global variable.

Not looking for an argument here, because I know this change will not happen and I have no interest pushing saying it's needed. And I'll be the first to say there are much bigger QOL issues I'd like to see them fix before tackling something like this. But it could at least be something for BHVR to keep in mind for the future, as they do love to make (awful) interface changes no one asked for. At least this would have been asked for.

I know that which is why I refered to it as the pre-game lobby and not the game lobby or end game lobby.

I misread the post you were responding to. Apologies, that's my bad. The problem is that in all these different threads everyone uses different wording for these things. Most people I've conversed with mean the public lobby when they say pre-game lobby (vs the post-game lobby/screen). I've seen people refer to the private lobby as the SWF lobby and the pre-pre-game lobby.

yeah its confusing sometimes it should just be pre-game lobby, game lobby, end game lobby.

Personally, I like differentiating the lobbies with "private" and "public." It's usually not an issue anyway: 99.9% of the time people just say "lobby" with no other identifiers and everyone knows it means the public lobby. There's rarely a reason to care about the private SWF lobby as a separate entity. If you don't play with SWF you're not even going to think of it as a type of lobby, just a menu area where you queue up and wait to find an actual lobby.

What practical reason would they ever code in more than an on-off switch for something as ultimately meaningless, useless, and cosmetic as prestiges being shown in the lobby? It has no real tactical use as it gives no real info on skill, it's not complex enough to impact the game, it's literally just a HUD element. Why would any Dev put extra effort into making a HUD element visible for some people but not others?

The other issue - Survivors dodging newer looking or new players because "No, I deserve to win, no scrub noob Survs in MY Lobby! Put them in someone ELSE'S lobby! >:(" It's the exact same problem as Killers lobby dodging, it forces these baby Survs into harsher lobbies because everyone dodges the p0 Meg with the name horsegrrrl2792 for no reason, just because she is a noob. So now poor BabyMeg gets shoved in a SWF lobby way above her league with thousand hour Survs and a thousand hour Killer, and she has a horrid time because she dies fast because she is brand new and the Killer can easily keep finding her.

I would argue that there is absolutely zero reason why we need to be able to see our swf friends' prestiges either. I'd say that seeing our swf's prestiges is even less important than seeing random teammates' prestiges'. (Not that the latter is important at all or anything either.) Regardless of our friends' prestige levels, we trust them to be good teammates who try their best, right? Right??

Plus, prestiges are still visible in the post-game screen, so you can show off/congratulate each other there.

  • dumb argument, its just qol and not a big ask, there is no reason again why we cant see them

I thought it was an only ever shown or never shown thing, no matter the lobby? Isn't that how it's been coded?

Even after all these years I'm still amazed when people ask for stuff and butt up against the way this game was originally coded. And the severe difficulties and limitations dealing with it.
