I'm guessing not enough people wishlisted it when they talked about it a couple weeks ago.
1 -
I'll be honest, I kind of forgot that was a thing. I might have wishlisted it otherwise.
3 -
What was this, again?
Please put these resources into developing your flagship and making it better instead.

I'm gonna guess that Meet Your Maker is on the chopping block next unfortunately.

I have a feeling Islands of Insight is in danger of being axed as well due to how much they prioritised developing the Offline Mode.

Pretty sure the only reason it's survived this long is because of their Japanese release on PlayStation, which Sony probably required a year-long contract for. And "survived" is putting it nicely; it's been on life support since before they stopped releasing new gameplay content.

Will second this. Completely forgot about it.

Considering just now I had to google what that game was and had no idea it existed, and I have played thousands of hours of DBD, I'm gonna guess you are correct.

It's a cool game, honestly. If you like puzzle games I'd recommend it for sure. Looks really pretty too.

I had no clue what it was. Don't restrict games to Steam or to any one single platform. It's 2024, there's no reason to do that.
Maybe if it was available to be wishlisted on PS, XBOX, and Switch as well, maybe there would have been more interest or even knowledge that it existed.
I hope this didn't come off disrespectful, it's just that ignoring console is not a good thing when the DBD playerbase is mainly console when combined.

I didn't even know this was a shooter, I knew it was a project they were working on but that's it
tbh, they need to focus on dbd which is in a bug ridden state most of the time and also their golden egg

Layoffs this year in the industry have been insane, and there are reports (I have no official sources, just reports) that the entire Midwinter studio has been shut down following Project T being cancelled. BHVR bought this studio back in 2022, and now if the reports are to be believed that's yet another talented group of people out of a job and because it's been officially cancelled without anything public going live (since the first tests weren't allowed to be shown publicly) they've got nothing to show for the past 2 years of work, either.
I feel so sorry for everyone involved, and disgusted at the BHVR higher ups who have allowed yet more layoffs under their watch, if true.

It wasnt even available to be wishlisted on Steam either, the game was simply open to be playtested.
2 -
Jesus, that's awful if that's true. Buying a studio just to lay everyone off and shut it down two years later is horrible.
1 -
So is that kind of like the same thing as a PTB?
0 -
No, you had to apply for a chance to be apart of the playtest
EDIT: It was more of an internal thing, had to sign an NDA if you were apart of it

Honestly, i was never willing to really play this game. If it intended to be an online live service game (and if it wasn't, then it probably never was going to be worth it anyway), then i couldn't be engaged with it. DBD's main game already has my full attention. And this game would only appeal to DBD players anyway probably. And i would feel like i am missing out but i can't possibly play 2 big games like that just because the 2nd one is a dbd game. I just wanna play the main one especially with all of its licenses.
I am more interested in games like Casting of Frank Stone, single player DBD experiences that i can finish and then go back to the main game.
I think they made the right choice personally.1 -
I'm really disappointed by this. I was really looking forward to having a cooperative Dead by Daylight game to play with my friends. I've always preferred co-op games and only play Dead by Daylight to begin with because there's nothing else like it. I was really happy they were going to make something more my style. I'm surprised they gave up on it so early, too. Just one playtest?
Now I'm sort of surprised Meet your Maker even got released. I legitimately like that game (especially after they fixed a couple of the major concerns), but one of its biggest issues is that even by the time it got put on life support it felt like it had the content of a beta, not a launched game.
The optimistic view is that Dead by Daylight won't lose any focus, but the pessimistic view is that canceling everything that isn't Dead by Daylight really isn't a good look for the company (which is already the primary takeaway I'm seeing from this news elsewhere).

Reports are confirmed by former employees btw that the Seattle office has been shut down "following a diligent risk assessment" (lol). Comes despite playtest results being "almost entirely positive", with one former staff member claiming that the feedback gave it 92/100 in terms of fun and replayability.
Absolutely disgusting.

Would be nice if there was at least one video of alpha / beta play or some more insight info about the game. Who knows, maybe the game actually had some potential in it. It would also satisfy the curiosity of people here who will now wonder what this Project T could had become if it was ever completed.

Was in the playtest. Seemed promising. Don't know why they cancelled it.

Probably the number of ''negative reviews'' was a bit too high for them.
They could had gone EA and got more people involved into playtesting for a more broad view on their work. Plenty of games never saw the light of the day because the so-called ''focus group'' didn't catch the feeling of the game right and devs took their opinion for too much.

Was really surprised to read this. if the feedback was positive, why BHVR suddenly decided the game isnt commercially viable?
My guess is they say what happened with Concord. Pure speculation but maybe they thought helldivers 2 and deep rock galactic would be too much competition.
edit : its also possibly an indicator maybe casting of frank stone isn't recieved as well as they expected. But unfortunately technical issues are a common reason for negative reviews on that game. Some people enjoyed it others didn't. So kinda mixed.0 -
Yeah.
Concord was the same as every other MOBA shooter bringing nothing new to the table and bland design.
Project T seemed like it actually could have stood out from Helldivers 2 and DRG, with a focus on vehicular travel and characters. Not to mention a Horror aesthetic, and who knows what players could do within the Entity's realm.

Years of hard work wasted and livelihoods compromised for no discernable reason. I love capitalism!!!!! /s

Indeed it did.

Probably for the better.
Live Services are diffiult these days. Normal people mostly only play one game and sink money in it… and don´t have unlimited.
I think cosmetics are going a bit crazy in DbD at the moment. Don´t know what it would cost to buy everything right now.
Thats why the sucessful games are all pretty old.
1 -
looks like BHVR have offered project T employees to relocate to canadian studios or a severance package if they choose. That's good, i wonder if some project T devs will be working on DBD now.

The goal with cosmetics isn't for people to buy everything. The smart thing for BHVR to do is release a wide range across multiple characters, focusing on the most popular but not completely neglecting the less popular characters, to appeal to as many players as possible. The cosmetics are where DbD earns its money, which funds everyone's paychecks (and the servers, the office space, etc.) to allow the game to continue.
Personally, I think they fail a bit in their release structure. When a new character releases (like Sable), they should drop a new cosmetic for her each week or so, cashing in on the people who think she's their "new main" (but will fall back to their old main soon enough, as they always do). I think back to Nic Cage and all the players who were like, "He's my new main!" but a couple weeks after his release he'd all but completely disappeared from my lobbies.

That's good, at least.

BHVR just announced that they're buying another studio???

Saw this article where BHVR CEO talks about closing Midwinter and acquiring Red Hook. I feel so bad for the Midwinter devs.
