Dead by Daylight compared to CHESS
I would like to read others interpretation of this analogy. I can elaborate my reasoning if others would like, for now I thought opening the discussion would be interesting.
First thing, there is a opening, middle, and end game.

Wasting shack pallet and still going down is basically equivalent to blundering a queen.

Yea and respecting and not getting rid of it might give more time for other side. Somewhat. Like 15 seconds vs 45 seconds on a tile.

Another similarity;
Chess board is asymmetrical in whites favor for most part. Black plays off whites opening mostly. (im know chess grandmaster).
Each map in dead by daylight will always start in survivors favor and is static pallet spawns. Think of house placements on each of the badham preschool variants as an example. It's not as RNG as some make it sound like. Although mechanical skill is not as much a part in chess.

Playing Freddy feels like a beginner being forced to play against four clones of Magnus Carlsen.

I find freddy long arms get rid of pieces for survivors fast. :)

If I were to create a OC DBD chess set:
Survivor: -
- Pawns: Pallets.
- Knights: Kate and Nea vaulting windows.
- Bishops: Jake and Meg shining flashlights.
- Rooks: Jane and Dwight sticking their heads out of lockers.
- Queen: Yui lifting a pallet with AMN.
- King: Ace opening a chest.
Killer: -
- Pawns: Hex totems.
- Knights: Legion and Singularity vaulting windows.
- Bishops: Huntress and Deathslinger aiming hatchets/gun.
- Rooks: Hillbilly and Blight smashing pallets.
- Queen: Nurse charging a blink.
- King: Trapper setting a trap.

Analogy-wise, basement Trapper is DBDs fried liver player... if someone falls for it he absolutely destroys them...
However anyone who knows what they're doing, or whenever he plays anything else, he gets absolutely smoked 🤣

That's interesting.
To me King is who owns the map. Starts in survivors hands.

Is fried liver a chess opening, im curious.

Trapper is like playing chess if you think about it.
2 -
Skull Merchant is the queen and the drones are pawns.

The fried liver attack is a very famous opening by White that can potentially win the game in 4 moves if black doesn't react correctly.
It's typically used by people against beginners to catch them out early, but it is an overcommitment by white, so if black doesn't fall for the trap, black ends up in a much stronger position overall.
In the chess world it is generally advised not to play the Fried Liver because it doesn't use/develop chess fundamentals, so If you use it, you inflate your win rate and will start going against better players who know how to deal with it, and then you'll have none of the fundamental tools to compete at that level...
Now I've said it, I feel the analogy is actually more accurate than I originally gave it credit for 😅

En Passant is the equivalent of Ghostie 99'ing a survivor and letting them go. He may not go directly for them, but he'll ambush them from behind and down them where they'll least expect it.

take a seat why don't u
solo q survivors are the pawns obviously.. design to be cannon fodder in a way. A pawn can move two steps forward for it first move showing they have a decent early game. Survivors also get a good headstart at the beginning of the trail with all the resources still up.
The king is the most valuable peice which is the survivor who closest to death. The death hook Survivor being chases is equivalent to being put in check and a down is checkmate. The team will die in a 3v1.
The rest of peices merely describe survivor play Styles.
The Rook- mainly stick close to the king. Flashlight, sabo, and flashbang users.
The Horse- good at evading in tight spots. These are stealthy gen jockeys who slow walk soon they hear your terror radius.
The Bishop- The good loopers. i can't think of a reason...so just trust me bro

Hag is similar. They play traps for power and killer power is like learning to use a knight or bishop. They are stronger pieces in many cases but wont get you far if you don't understand their movements/placement strategy.
Good looper would have to be the queen, four queens in that scenario are gonna need a queen for a killer. I like the analogy for the pieces being a play style tier list.
Is that also a chess opening? a lot of thinking ahead is required for killer.
Yea explaining that it really does, awesome analogy. I find im learning more about game with all these analogies :D

En Passant is a rule that not too many realize is in the game. It's where if the opponent double-moves their pawn from their initial starting space and it lands next to one of your pawns, you can capture by placing your pawn behind the opponent's pawn and essentially "backstabbing" the pawn. It's essentially treating the opponent's pawn as if it only moved one square instead of two. It's the only time in Chess that a pawn can attack another piece without moving into that piece's square. En Passant translates to "in passing".

Makes sense to me. The players on either side are encouraged to manage and maneuver the different aspects of the match that they can wrestle for control over in various ways to disadvantage one another. Like purposefully getting mid gen out early, taking a protection hit as a trade for your time compared to your teammates life.

Well, The Doctor has run off with the King and Queen pieces and - since he apparently doesn't want to share - there will be no chess for a while.

I like to imagine full Hex Pinhead forcing people to pause their chess matches and make them play checkers.
I don't play Magic the Gathering but I guess that'd be called Scheherazade?

Controlling & protecting the centre of the map/board is often the difference between winning and losing.
In chess you want to split your opponents central pieces and force them to the edges of the board where they have less control and movement options. Similar to what survivors want to do in DBD to force gens to be split on either side of the map for late game.
A player hook suicide at 5 gens is the equivalent to losing your Queen in the first 5 moves i.e it's virtually impossible to come back and win from it.
Billy sniping you from across the map is like forgetting about the one bishop that's been strategically place on the back line waiting to snipe your castle when you make a mistake & least expect it.

I'm surprised nobody else has posted this yet.
DBD is much more similar to hockey. (I miss Patrick)

Saying DBD is like chess is silly, if that were the case then Nurse would be the Quee-

I like the idea the board just swaps around the tiered loop tiles and killer is like moving part that makes the match, then 4 rats run around the same tiled pieces. Have to mechnically move these pieces though and its like a dance etc. metaphors are something else though.
