A tunneling Freddy
Sit down children I've got a wonderful story for you with a brilliant hidden meaning.
Once there was a Steve, just playing a random build. He meets a Freddy on the Lich's borgo. This killer puts a teammate Nea in the basement (oooooh scary) when he thinks it's safe, Steve makes his way down to save her, with babysitter to guide him he heals as fast as he can before low & behold a Freddy immediately returns from yonder across the map. With one smack Steve runs out up the stairs fleeing for his life, the Nea with a found sense of altruism healthy & ready to help tries desperately to help her new found friend. Unfortunately taken down Steve watches as Nea shakes her head, sorry to see her healer in such a state. Post haste Freddy hooks the victim Steve & makes off for his next adversary, but even faster still Nea makes a quick rescue attempt, pulling Steve off the hooks clutching spike. The Steve gets smacked right away, proceeds to run with Freddy choosing to tunnel & then down him again & then hook him again, then let Nea save so he can just do it again, all for no reason that I can fathom, then when I ask after I've died (only just as the second gen pops btw) "what did I do?" Response "I don't know" I ask "so why'd you do that then?" He tells me "felt like it"
I am so sick of this type of playing. The killer dictates the pace of the game, that's meant to be the point. But people pay to play this game, TO PLAY. If it just keeps happening & it is happening too often at the moment you don't get to play, you instead enjoy 'hook simulator'. Tunneling has been & still is THE WORST problem in this game. It needs addressing properly, playstyle nonsense or not, it's not fun & is completely unfair. It's just as bad if not worse than camping, because this gives you the idea of hope you'll pull off the escape before just dying anyway, at least camping used to just be unhook, down, hook, repeat. I know exactly what's coming in these comments & I don't care, I'll ignore them. But I'm making a point of posting this because it's ridiculous & I genuinely want it to stop. With enough uproar on the matter I'd hope something would be done. I've given previous suggestions for solutions that don't benefit either side with an exploitable mechanic but maybe that's all that can be done instead. Either way I'm done now, say what you will. This game sucks when you pay for it & don't even get to play because the killer just "Feels like it" I hope everyone is having better games in the fog.

I understand that everyone and their mother is complaining right now "he slugged, he camped, he tunneled" however majority of the time when a survivor complains about tunneling its either just false and there wasn't any tunneling happening or its survivor induced. Now im not saying that there isn't any hardcore tunneling because of course their is but its not happening as often as everyone claims.
If you think your being tunneled every game then record your games and post them for others to view. I would think that at worst your are being "tunneled" maybe 1 or 2 games in every 10.
I think the term Tunnel has lost all meaning because its used for every little situation.
For example if i hook you, go off and hook someone else then i find you again. thats not tunneling. Thats your team not trying to take aggro for you.
Or how about i come back to hook because i can't find anyone with the aim of chasing the survivor who rescued. But they have gone stealth so my only option is to chase the recently hooked. Thats survivor induced tunneling
Or my favourite one the one just unhooked uses their Base kit BT to body block from going for the unhooker meaning the killer is forced to hit the recently hooked. Thats not tunneling thats just VERY poor gameplay by survivors because at that point your basicly saying "don't chase them go for me mr killer but im gonna call this toxic tunneling in end game".
I wish survivor mains would just get over it already and if you really want to complain that every game your being camped, slugged or tunneled then I say proove it else no one is going to believe you. If your on steam there is now a way to record your games so no excuse not to get evidence if you play steam.0 -
I get tunnelled roughly over a quarter of the time. The gaslighting on these forums on how common tunnelling actually is is kind of insane.
Here's the link to the first post (of multiple in the thread discussing the 175 games recorded one and a half years apart showing how the incidence of tunnelling has risen substantially).

In his defense it's Freddy. He needs all the help he can get to win. Even ruthless tactics like that.

Ju
Seriously. Let's see OP try to win as Freddy without tunneling.

Freddy might actually need to tunnel, hes in a really bad spot.

While it is possible, you'll have to rely on survivors not doing the correct counterplay against Freddy, which is something that isn't going to happen most of the time.
As much as I despise tunneling, if you play to win as Freddy you need all the help you can get.

Thing is, if you read it all I explained the situation it was entirely targeted in this case & all done because he "felt like it" anyway though, I agree with you on the state of what Tunneling actually is, I hear it from time to time from my swf teammates they'll get hooked, unhooked but then no sign for a while then get chased again & call it tunneling but nothing happened in the meantime so he just got unlucky & got found again. That be the game sometimes I suppose. I also understand the killer completely when you intentionally put yourself in the path with BT or OTR, that's not tunneling at that point as you asked for it.
I say all this though with the understanding that that's not what I said happened in the post at all, & as someone who does know what I mean when I say tunneling I stand by what I said, it is a massive problem.

...I won't argue... :|

The killer doesn't dictate the pace of the game at all. Survivors own him. If you let a killer simply tunnel someone, and you don't get 5 gens done in all that time he's wasting on 1 person, your team deserves to lose. Especially to a weakling like Freddy doing it. Either people need to get good at the game, or the devs need to majorly fix MMR, because I will admit that not all players who die to like Freddy, Pig, Ghost Face, are bad players, and were just sunk by bad teams they were shoehorned into.
There's no "might" about it. He doesn't get a down vs a good team. And yet, I've seen people hand over a 4k to a pallet Freddy who used no strategy (tunneling, camping, slugging). I don't believe that's the result of the killer simply playing well, as experience will tell you.

With enough practice, you can get good even with a weak killer.
Think of it like a shooting range, there are different rifles available, and one of them is especially bad. If someone practices enough with that poor-quality rifle, they might end up as good, or even better, than those using better rifles.
But that doesn’t mean the rifle itself is good.
