Ranked in DBD?

Today's state of DBD makes me feel terrible. Why So? Welp lemme explain.


First of all, i`ve spent enough time in soloq to notice a lot downsides that can ruin the experience for players

Regularly, in every second or third match, there are survivors who die after the first hook.. I mean they actually use all three unhook themselves attempts and then miss skill checks on second stage.
Okay, i can understand that - maybe a player doesn`t want to play against a certain killer or just wanna ragequit.
But here`s a question for the game itself: what`s the point of the bot system, then? Why is simply leaving a match punishable with temporary ban, while dying on first hook isn`t? In this case, I`d rather see a bot take over, as it would keep some chance of winning alive.

Also there`s a huge difference between soloq and party, which puts the game balance in a tricky spot: if survivors are weakened too much, soloq becomes unbearable, but if the`re strengthened, then coordinated survivor parties become even more OP.
At this point, one might say, "What does it matter? There are strong killers like Blight and very weak ones like GF." But there`s a problem: each killer has their own MMR, meaning you play at an appropriate level for each killer.
However, survivors have shared MMR, and i doubt that a high MMR after party games will translate into good soloq matches.

This makes me want to see either an improvement in soloq by adding communication options, or, even better, the addition of ranked and unranked modes, like in DBD Mobile.
In fact, the old R20-R1 ranking system handled things better then the current MMR system. Additionally, unranked play would allow players to complete archive tasks, play for fun, or play even in a bad mood, while ranked play could enforce sticter penalties for ragequits. This would also encourage players in ranked mode to learn and play DBD more competitively

    I'm probably in the minority, but I'd love to see a ranked queue. I have the most fun when both sides are sweating. I can't really speak to the queue implications, but I suspect that's one of the major reasons we haven't seen a ranked mode.

    I also think solo survivors would be at a massive disadvantage once you get into upper quartile of ranks unless they added some form of communication. I don't think SWF is that impactful in regular play, but I could see a scenario where solo players wouldn't be able to crack upper rankings. That's not necessarily a "SWF OP" claim. It's more a case of needing some form of communication and build synergy to compete with top killer players on top tier killers.

    So I really agree with you except ranked and unranked mode. Only reason being killers would get their butts handed to them in ranked mode and then destroy unranked (play sweaty). Maybe que up SWF's together instead. SWF's are stronger because of communication. Also if your paying with 2 or 3 person team one gets tunneled out of leaves they all tend to go, which really sucks for the remainder of the team.

    MMR does not work now because of the tunneling, slugging, and camping. The only player it benefits is the killer in reality. See a killer can rank up easier than a soloq player. But when that killer starts hitting squads they go down. Now your average player is always going to be stuck with the same killer players playing the same way with a longer time to climb the MMR.

    Soloq has been proven to be the largest amount of players, so in reality it should be balanced around that. I do feel aside with a few perks it's balanced if the killer does not tunnel, slug, and camp. It really depends on the killer's mindset and if they are avenging their dog or not.

    If they did do an unranked mode, they can keep the existing system in as the ranked mode. Add some type of leaderboard for that and bring whatever you want. Unranked lobbies can be another mode altogether where everything is random, including killers. No map offerings and maybe even some type of end game kill guarantee so that someone is dying no matter what. Or maybe you can pick certain perks but nothing meta. You can opt for items and addons but everyone has to agree and it's all random.

    Make it a casual mode to ######### around in. Nothing serious. Something like chaos shuffle— which is ok, but it doesn't go far enough imo. There's so much opportunity to at least give it (or something) a try.

    It’s quite logical; however, if we take, for example, camping and tunneling, these are completely valid tactics, and that’s exactly why there are perks and counterplays to prevent them.

    When it comes to the idea of ranked play, I’m heavily inspired by DBD Mobile, and I won’t deny that I might be seeing the situation through rose-colored glasses. But from my game experience, I can note that unranked there feels like regular PC gameplay, possibly with players at a lower skill level due to the control difficulty. Ranked games, on the other hand, feel very well-balanced: at ranks 20-12, you’ll find beginners, 11-7 are players who have learned the game basics, and in the top 6 ranks, you meet players who are genuinely striving to win. The most surprising thing for me was that I never encountered rage quitters there. Sure, there were things to complain about—objectively weak players, or on the contrary, players far too strong for their rank, ping issues, and, of course, gameplay obstacles with an overly cluttered interface.

    Speaking of Mobile, there’s also an interesting results table showing each player’s contribution to the game.

    Before a ranked mode can be thought of, there must be automatic and usable cheat protection, otherwise once a certain rating is reached there are only cheaters/hackers in it and there are a lot of them in DBD.

    I think in this case will be easier to find and deal with cheaters. Besides everything else, players who understand how the game works are more likely to find cheaters.

    And the faster cheating is stopped, the faster vulnerabilities will be eliminated.

    I realize they are valid tactics but what chance do players have if they only last minutes in a game. Tunneling exists but it shouldn't be the go to strategy. It's seriously out of hand now and makes gameplay unfun and boring.

    I can partially disagree. Killers who wanna win the match with 3-4k and there one of the best tactics to tunnel one or two players. Anyway once your MMR high enough it becomes one of the most stable and effective tactics.

    And there is more. While playing vs good parties tunnel can be lil' fun for killer cuz of overplaying saves etc

    Finding/reporting cheaters/hackers should never be a manual effort, perhaps in absolute exceptional cases. There should be an automatic system for this, but there isn't.

    Just like it's easier these days to make money with DLC's and skins because the persona spends an incredible amount of money on all of this.

    Unfortunately that is the reason why this doesn't change anything about these topics, the persona determines the market and is unfortunately in free fall from an IQ perspective.

    I seem to be one of the very few people that do believe that solo survivors have the potential to do at the very least almost as well as a 4 man swf survivor team, if all 4 solo survivors in a team are good enough and use the information they are given well. It's just harder and less likely for them to do just as well as swf survivors.

    But I do agree that very few solo survivors would probably end up at the very high mmr in ranked, especially seeing as how at the highest rank there would probably mostly be people who play the highest tier of killers. But I feel like a ranked mode would also force BHVR to further improve the information that solo survivors have, maybe even add basekit kindred to the mix finally. BHVR has proven that they don't shy away from giving survivors or killers unique abilities for different modes, considering 2vs8.

    While I enjoy DBD as a party game, a ranked mode wouldd definitely be interesting to try out.

    I would enjoy it since it would allow me to play killers that people normally suck against, such as twins, for example

    However for a ranked mode to exist we need to stablish an unranked mode, which today's mmr doesnt really achive

    Unless Ranked offers significant rewards, I can't see why the sweaty players who only run meta and camp/tunnel would choose to play against challenging opponents rather than just beat down casual players in Unranked. Most of them already ignore the current reward system of Bloodpoints (you get more if you DONT play sweaty) and seemingly do it for the instant gratification of dominating their opponents.

    And if Ranked did offer significant rewards, then you need to factor in if those rewards are proportionate (does it breed fomo for unranked players?) and if the anticheat is effective enough. If it's not, you create a massive incentive to cheat.

    I'd love a ranked qeue….in the hopes all the sweaty personality-less players flock to that mode.

    I don't tunnel, camp, or slug for 4k, but if someone puts me in a situation where I'm avenging my dog, all bets are off!
