Please address the ping exploiting
I’m tired of killers having an advantage when they have bad ping. Why does having more than 100 ping benefit the killer? It’s completely ridiculous and it makes me never want to switch away from killer. Please do something about this issue. Every time I press tab as a survivor the killer has over 100 ping and I already know I’m going to get hit through pallets and vaults that shouldn’t be hitting. Please address this issue. Because it IS AN ISSUE

You can see their ping in the game now, just disconnect.

yeah just disconnect. Bros trolling

Absolutely. We need server-sided hit authority, either doing hit reg itself or at least general hit validation on the servers. I suspect big part of the reason why we don't have that is that BHVR just does not want to put in the work to recode the hit reg system and to put that load on the servers/networking budget, where the server would then have to do hit calculations every time, processing, receiving and sending out more info, which would probably cost them more.
But they should at the very least show killer ping in the lobby. If they don't want to show discrete ping because it could allow player identification to a degree, show indicators (e. g. green bar for <50ms, yellow for 50-90ms, red for >90ms). There are already ping indicators for laggy survivors in the lobby, and there used to be one for killers too that they've removed for some reason. Killers can also see survivor characters, items, even profiles, and use them to decide to dodge. But survivor players don't even get to see and decide to dodge based on the killer ping when the hit reg is killer client-sided…

I might catch some flak from this, but there needs to be a ping limit (either in match or lobby) or let players queue for pings closer to their own.

Despite this issue having been brought up many, many times on the forum, the devs have (to my knowledge) never mentioned it, so I assume they are never going to do anything about it.
8 -
I was just in a game where the killer openly admitted to using a vpn so he could win more games with high ping. Devs you need to do something
2 -
No you're right. Players with absurdly high ping shouldn't be able to join lobbies.
5 -
players with high ping should play with the same, its bollocks getting hit when ive vaulted a window, landed and still getting hit, why ids this a thing?
3 -
The pings need to be visible in lobbies. Seeing pings in the game is useless because if you want to get out because of a killer abusing VPN, YOU get punished with a DC penalty instead of the person who actually deserves punishment which would be the VPN abuser. As I said earlier, this issue has been a very common complaint from players for years, but the devs have never talked about it and AFAIK they have no plans to do anything about it. Very disappointing.
4 -
Specially if your already 2 feet away after fast vaulting said window.
4 -
No because other games do this like fighting games, you can set connection requirments and even passwords. Your idea is the same thought as mine ^^
1 -
I third this because fighting games like tekken and what not allow it and its so nice. Imagine trying to use a speed char or a combo that syncs with your rhythm only for it to be thrrown off.

As a former killer main, survivors do this as well as lag-switching when they get into a chase, - making them impossible to catch because they teleport all over.
2 -
Just want to step in to say that this involves all players. Not just killers. All grabs are dependant on survivor ping as an example.
However, I do agree, that in some extremes, ping makes the game almost unplayable.

cant wait till they "fix" ping and i would never be able to hit 20 ping survivors on my abusive exploiting 60 ping.
yay i guess
1 -
if they made a theoretical "fix" to ping your window to hit would be shortened by a grand total of 40ms, which at 4.6m/s is 0.184 meters lol. Nothing to complain about, realistically you would not see any change if your ping is that good.
2 -
if you actually played the game enough, you'd know how much of a difference 60 ping and 20 ping on surv vs 60 ping killer make despite current "killer sided" ping. spoiler: it's a palpable difference amounting to a hit.
1 -
I have 4000 hours friend, I have played the game enough. If you think you would be unfairly impacted at 60ms you either need better internet or yourself do not have as good an understanding of the game as you claim.
4 -
Thing is a killer with 60 ping is much higher as hits are killers PC/console sided on registering in this game. Server pings survivors location to killer, killer swings and hits on their screen to ping back to server, then server pings back to said survivor as them being hit when they vaulted and ran 2-4 steps past the window.

The worst I versed was two killers both with ~250ms ping, clearly not from my region but living at the same address. One was a Huntress and the other Wraith and the match was impossible as hatchets were hitting me from 20 feet away and the Wraiths hits were impossible to avoid as they also hit from so far it was close to impossible to out play them.
I play on other servers with ExitLag but never killer and I never goto servers where my ping would exceed 200. I feel that for survivor it generally puts me at a disadvantage as I cant greed anything and I get hit around corners with Hatchets and 10 feet through a window I already vaulted.
I never play killer on other servers as I feel it would be completely immoral and I do consider it exploiting.

and i have 12 thousand, so? im terminally online in this game and i literally know better. 20ms survivors are already getting away with so much ######### they never should and adding extra means of "validation" will only make it worse.

I think I went against them the other night, haha.
1 -
There is nothing worse than losing against someone because he just has bad internet.

The game is client-server based so the only way to play with other players is to connect to a server. Take a look at where BHVR host their servers. They're not near everyone. +100ms is not uncommon for most players.

This is complete copium. You can't see 20ms survivors "getting away with things they never should" because the validation is done on the killer's screen anyway. It doesn't matter if the survivor has 20ms, 0 ms or 1000 ms, if you hit them on your screen they'll get injured, from your perspective it doesn't change anything, you're effectively always playing as a 0ms killer against a 0ms survivor, because all the calculations are done on your computer.
The only way you can gauge survivor ping would be by looking at the survivor's screen. It is physically impossible to see it as killer. The only thing you'll notice as killer is that the survivor will appear to have slower reaction time, but it will be impossible to tell if that's because of ping or just because the survivor player is slow.
Even at 20ms ping, the survivor is still at a disadvantage, they see you 20ms late. On your screen they will appear to have a 20ms slower reaction time. And regardless, it still doesn't change whether your swing will hit or not.

I’m with you on this; EVERY game that has a vs. should have a ping limit.
1 -
i dont even want to argue with that nonsense.
if what you are saying was the case, then low ping survivors would get hit equally as everyone else in the same lobby as the killer, yet that's never the case.
try actually playing the game and seeking out lobbies where most survs are +- on the same 50-60 ping as you except some guy who lives in the same building as the server. then try to get any close hits on them, like hitting them into last moment of fastvault, hit them through pallet while they drop it halfway through, etc.
even by your logic they're still at double if not triple reaction time advantage than normal ping survivors which allows low ping survivors to trivialize a lot of tiles and interactions that require making basic reads on what killer does instead of just holding checkspot and be guaranteed to react & make it to the vault / get the stun. dumb, boring and onesided ######### and it's sad you're apologizing it.
validation systems that ppl like OP are suggesting and people like you are defending will result into making this game even further ping dependant than it is already, while removing actual interaction between players that's possible because not everything is reactable.

Tournaments are played with <80 ms ping restriction and killers have no trouble winning chases there.
If they can win without exploits, so can you.

In OCE?
I think this is a far more common thing than it should be and it happens all over the world and it damn well shouldn't :(

Yeah, they need to add more server locations. There's an AWS server in Montreal, Quebec. I really wish they would use it.
0 -
Not really sure if validation really happens only on killer screen and always gives killers advantages.
At least in my experience as a 2000 hours huntress main I had a lot of high ping survivor get hit by a hatched, make an injured sound and bleed but not lose a health state cause the hit didn't register for them.
If it would only be killer validation shouldn't that hit count?
0 -
I've noticed that regularly as Huntress too, even though I have 20 ms ping. I don't know why this happens but I'd say that behavior is specific to her hatchets and probably a remnant of when the game was server-sided.

Man I wish having bad ping gave me an advantage, I've gotten this high ping and it's unplayable for me. In short, I hit survivor, they get hit, they then continue being healthy, and this repeats.

Just had another killer from another region exploiting ~250ms ping, I don't really check ping until I get hit 20 feet through windows or just plain questionable hits and sure enough, every time it is some scummy exploiter with excessive ping.
I wish there was some indication of killer ping in the lobby, as I would be more than happy to sit and wait until I find a lobby where I am going to have a fair match.
