Distressing buff isn't enough - it needs more than just a number change.

Today's update removed bloodpoint bonuses from a handful of perks and gave them compensation buffs. While I'm satisfied with the changes to No One Left Behind and Thrill of the Hunt, I believe Distressing still leaves something to be desired.

Increasing Distressing's modifier to 30% does not in any way make the perk noticeably better or make up for the removal of its bloodpoint bonus. Having a larger terror radius is a gimmick that is only a benefit with certain builds and in other cases is an active detriment to the killer, and I don't think this effect is good enough on its own or worth the perk slot.

To make Distressing more interesting and lean into its theme even further I want to propose the following change:

  • (Unchanged) Your Terror Radius is increased by 20/25/30%.
  • (New) Each time a generator is completed, Distressing's secondary function activates for 20 seconds. While Distressing's secondary function is active, your Terror Radius covers the entire map and all Survivors will hear your Terror Radius as though you were directly behind them. During this time, all Survivors are also considered to be "inside the Terror Radius" for other purposes.

I think this could be fun as a way of scaring survivors as a sort of reverse Undetectable - instead of having no terror radius you have a huge one that for a brief time doesn't actually tell survivors anything about where you are and forces them to be more careful.

Agree. In my opinion, this is rather a nerf than a buff because having a bigger terror radius means survivor will much more prerun.

I really like your suggestion to buff this perk. This is kinda of a revers Undetectable. I think 20sec is too little but the idea is really cool and can be helpful on many killers.

They don´t really prerun a lot (new survs do) - but they get a bit confused sometimes.

I always use this on Doctor for the shock. And for the BP… :-( - sadly not anymore.

Doctor also has an addon where they always hear the TR like he is right behind - messes up some players.

But the buff could be nice - like Legion.

Yeah exactly, the bigger TR is only a benefit sometimes and other times it's just straight up bad. It's not something I'd really ever run without some other perk or ability to take advantage of it.

I could see 20 seconds being a little on the low side, 25-30 might be ok.

True. I still cannot believe that they just removed the extra BP on three perks and thought they need to buff it. I take it for TotH but Distressing is a nerf and No one left Behind didn't need that buff - it was already a good perk. This makes me a bit worried about their balance politics. Sometimes they make really good changes (Crownd Control for example) but then also these awkward changes.

I wonder what they will do with Beast of prey when they realise that this one still has extra BP

    That’s a cool buff

Personally I think Beast of Prey needs a larger rework, I don't think a perk that only works with Bloodlust is really good design and it's quite a limiting factor too. All these other changes were just number changes and the only numbers on Beast of Prey is the bloodpoint bonus itself, so I would guess they probably didn't bother with it in this update for that reason.

I actually like the buffs to NOLB. It was alright before, but I don't think it quite stacked up to other endgame perks like Hope and Adrenaline (but now it does), and I think survivor endgame perks should be pretty strong since they come with the risk of dying before getting to use them at all. And unlike the others, it's only good if you have teammates still alive, it's useless in hatch situations (it doesn't work with self healing).

distressing is bad because survivor that understand heartbeat can pre-run further away. distressing would need to grant like 3% hindered for survivor outside of chase or something to be good at stand-alone perk. furthermore, the % that it increases tr is too little to be synergy with clown's anti-healing perk. Unnerving presence is terrible perk outside of overcharge and Oppression type skill-checks and needs like MASSIVE buffs to be good at stand-alone. Overwhelming presence is too expensive of a perk slot. 2 perk slot to disable items with no other benefits is too high of price for not enough of gain. it's only niche good for facing 4 commodus toolboxes with Wire spool+Scrap with streetwise/build to last but no killer will equip the perk in their average match for that. It needs other additional benefits that are more consistent beyond niche case.
