It's kind of amazing
I have been playing this game for less than some, but for 5+ years and going on 6K hours, and I am well on the record as saying repeatedly that tunneling/camping are overstated problems, largely due to people with recency bias, as well as simply only playing one side and failing to really understand both sides of the game, and what these things actually mean.
In my many thousands of matches I had never seen hard tunneling more than maybe 1 in 10 matches at peak, and most often well less than that.
I like to think I am not as prone exaggeration as others, but I have never seen tunneling and slugging like I have over the past 2-3 weeks in the event queue. It's been at least 6-7 out or every 10 matches during the Bone Chill this year. And stupid humping more than ever.
You'd think there were tome challenges for this crap.
And in the event queue? People to chill the f- out, no puns intended.

Events always attract a shockingly high amount of players whose sole objective is to make sure that the other players can't enjoy the event. Because of this, events are the worst time to play survivor.

Thats what happens when you make one person a power role in a video game rather than giving both sides the skill and opportunities to be able to win.
7 -
Survivor players don't have skill and opportunity to win? That's news to me
8 -
Hard to see any skill expression, when someone lacks skill.

Not with determined killers or if they know how to abuse the power in the game.
7 -
I have no idea what you are talking about here. When I play killer, I suppose I would consider myself "determined" in that I try to win, and I certainly don't win every game. Maybe I'm just not very good. What do you mean by "abusing the power"?
7 -
If it brings them easy wins, they will keep doing it. In the event queue, it's even easier to do because most survivors are playing casually or just give up

Billy is abusing his chainsaw by using it on people instead of trees, lol.

This make me LOL. Thanks :)

I guess I'm abusing my power as a trapper. Was I not supposed to trap the survivors at the gate???

My poor Amanda Panda's blades are so scuffed from smacking rocks, trees, walls, thin air, anything but a surv! I must be doing it wrong not taking full advantage of this abuse thingy...

It's a real issue in this event.
That's the link I posted in September 2024 showing that the amount of hard tunnelling I see in games increased by 5% to 26%. It has links to 175 games over the two time periods I took snapshots of it. So that corresponds to how you feel it was less than 1 in 10 games before but for some people, at least for me, it has definitely risen substantially and I would add definitely during this event.
While I don't have any games or solid data for the event as I haven't recorded anything I feel that hard tunnelling has been more common during the event than the time period I took these videos for. However, that's my feeling and I don't have any solid numbers. I can emphatically say it's been at least around the same ballpark as 26% and I think higher with the addition that some of the Killers are also humping the last survivor downed.
After doing the tome challenges I haven't even bothered queuing as Survivor for the event queue as it's not worth it. I sometimes queue in the event queue as Killer but I generally use Killers I only meme around with so the other players can have a break from how horrible so many people are during the event.

I think you should check your recency bias, because I haven't had that experience at all. You got one or two bad weeks and suddenly it's a problem? Come on. We all have bad streaks. Take a break from the game and move on.
I think you're just exaggerating a problem that isn't there. Especially the humping thing, because I haven't had that experience in literal months.

maybe they shouldn't make a separate event mode for something that largely plays the same as the normal mode

This is the purely emotional criticism of the state of the game... that has led to this state of the game, because the devs take this as gospel. Surely it couldn't be that players are just playing killer normally, trying to win, and are being interpreted as toxic. 🤦♀️

I have occasionally tried hide behind the bar on Ormond or Dead Dawg, or the concession stand on Greenville and see if I could pop up just as survivors are passing by. Then Amanda's blades have taken some abuse on dishes, counter tops, popcorn machines or beer taps :/

I'm usually the one to say what you're saying (almost verbatim, as you can see in the original post), but the whole reason I made the post was because the past couple of weeks have been so far out of the norm from my experience, like way out. I'm a relatively objective person and I keep waiting for the trend in my games to regress to the mean, but it hasn't.
I understand trends and outliers and have certainly had bad stretches (and very good ones), but never 2+ weeks sustained like this. It's totally possible I've just been profoundly unlucky in my matches, but in 5+ years I've not seen anything like it. At least not for more than a day or two.
And I have a very narrow definition if tunneling; it pretty much has to be a hard tunnel of the first downed surv or I don't think of it as tunneling (at least in the pejorative sense a lot of survs think of it).
But it's no exaggeration at all to say I've been humped more during this event than in all my previous games combined. Granted, that's not saying a lot since I didn't use to see it much at all.
But hey, I've played two matches so far today and neither had a tunnel, so maybe the tide is turning, lol

In my experience, playing as The Pig is an exercise in self abuse, lol

I just hope that me trying to be nice in event queue has made a few surv players a little more happy this season.
4 -
There's definitely a subset of players who legitimately only play during the events to ensure others have a miserable time

"With great power comes great responsibility" - every Lumberjack, struggling daily, with great success, not to saw people instead of trees.

…Because when any complaints arise from the Killer's perspective is entirely founded on the basis of science and objective facts because Killers can never be emotional or wrong, they are, in fact, just machines that do not feel anything and can only think using logic and reason unlike those smelly human Survivors.
Anyways, have you seen that "Windows of Opportunity = OP" thread from the other day? Weird isnt it.

Don't be ignorant.
There isn't time to worry about how anybody feels when the game can be over in minutes, event or otherwise.
