Killer ping and using VPN to get an unfair advantage

exactly what the title says. I’ve encountered almost every game where the killer has 200+ ping and the hit boxes have been out of this world. DBD this needs to be bannable as this is an exploit by making the server work to their advantage, please look into this. No wonder no one is having fun but the killers lately.

While I do agree, my killer games also have survivors benefiting from high ping. So this is a general ping issue not "killers exploit ping" issue so lets not have another one of those threads of us vs them please.

let’s put it like this then, ping should be less than 100 for all players. Not 1k cap I think it’s set at. How’s that? And no the game isn’t fun for survivors when you get hit from 10 miles away or the killer randomly swinging to get those hits knowing their ping is bad.

I get hit over pallets after I dropped them. That’s the ping issues I’ve been having. After dropping the dang pallet smh

Agreed! See how easy that was coming to a solution without dragging one set of players through the mud :)

    • Dont have servers in region
    • Get matched into closest server
    • Get banned for "VPNING"
    • Good system there

Amazon GameLift has a lot of unused locations by BHVR. Also Amazon GameLift supports running on own hardware for regions like Russia without any GameLift locations.

So its simply company greed normal players have to play with high ping.

All VPN users should be prevented from starting a game. VPN IP databases are common knowledge with every network admin and should be easy to implement.

Sadly this does not work. Because there are not enough Dedicated Servers to provide every player with such a connection. In some regions (e.g. Russia) they are not even supported. So having a Ping-Cap of less than 100 would just mean that some players cannot play the game at all anymore.

But I would agree that something needs to be done, because you can basically say the game is lost when you verse a Killer with high Ping, since you get either hit by hits which should not connect or chases are much shorter than they could be, simply because you have to predrop and can do less Loops.

The thing here, my guy, is the fact that some people do have this problem and are not doing this intentionally. Undoubtedly some individuals, whether they are killers or survivors, use this with full knowledge. But there are others that do have a internet connection that leaves much to be desired, I used to be one before I discovered the wonders of a cable. So you say you would ban those people who cannot have a decent connection as well, despite they possibly not having any chances of improving that PING.

You are wrong with they are not supported in russia.

BHVR use Amazon GameLift for Dead by Daylight [Source]. Amazon GameLift supports on-premises hardware (that means the amazon software runs on your hardware) [Source].

That means BHVR could rent or house own servers in russia and provide local servers to russian people or other locations that dont have local GameLift support.

It's not a problem with the hitbox or with a bad ping

The killer just throw her weapon at your face

A: as killer you can be hit by pallets from 3 yards away and miss shots when they are right in front of you

B: having people kicked for having over 100 ping is suck a bad idea. I play switch out in the boonies so that would mean the game I sunk so much money into wouldn’t let me play.

I just had a killer with 300+ ping

I report these killers for exploits every single time because that's exactly what it is

Impossible to implement since we all live in different regions of the world and some regions don't even have servers so they get relocated to the nearest server to them. There is also the issue of people being ddosed in this game.

It's pretty clear that BHVR aren't going to do anything about this. They could enforce ping limits in lobbies, but that would mean they would have fewer players and thus less revenue. Or they could support more servers in regions that don't currently have any, but that would mean more expenses. Either way, BHVR are prioritizing bottom line over customer experience. I'm not saying it's right or wrong - every company has to make similar tradeoff decisions. BHVR will have to deal with the consequences if players decide to leave because of this issue. Right now, that doesn't appear to be the case. Plenty of people are still playing the game and spending money on it despite the fact that BHVR refuses to implement ping limits in lobbies.

See the boast designs of VPNS is that there undetectable and if we just start punishing bad ping 90% of players would be gone

Genuine question, what benefits do high ping survivors have?

The only two I can think of are blinds which are survivor client sided with no validation and survivor ping being so bad that it can take multiple attempts to pick up a really laggy surv.

I do think the current limit of… 2000ms? Is quite ridiculous. I think 250 or 300 would be fine to not exclude people in rural areas or who don’t live by a server. I can force dbd to put me on asian servers and I would still have better ping than that.
