YouTube Video Discussion Board - This Is What I HATE About DBD ... by SpookyLoopz

Hello there, everyone on the forums!

I am a big Dead by Daylight super-fan. Dead by Daylight is a big part of my life. When I am not playing Dead by Daylight, I am watching Dead by Daylight YouTube videos or watching Dead by Daylight Twitch streamers. At this point in my life, I feel I have gained so much knowledge about Dead by Daylight development, lore, community controversies, meta-s, etc. that I could be a successful lecturer for a 3-credit hour DBD college course.

With that said, I can't stop replaying the "This Is What I HATE About DBD…" YouTube video by SpookyLoopz. There is just something about the cadence in SpookyLoopz's voice when he said "Ellen's bush, Poop Castle, Tattoo Ink, Garden of ###" at 0:54 seconds that deeply resonated with my sense of humor. I wanted to open a discussion board for other Dead by Daylight superfans who have watched the video and wanted to discuss it on the forums.

I think SpookyLoopz can sometimes be a little hard on the developers, but he is not wrong about the maps. I am really excited for the PTB to go live. I think it would be difficult to find someone on this planet that wants to go to Badham 3 on the same night they already played Badham 1 and Badham 5. I practically live at that school!

Wrong already. I love that map no bait. Maybe it's because I'm a killer? Is that map killer sided? idk much; I probably couldn't lecture a college course on dbd. I don't think I'd want to either lol.

The opposite, it's currently one of the most survivor-sided maps in the game. It even has some of the annoying stuff from old Haddonfield, like the original design of the House of Pain. Not to mention it has 3 buildings beside shack, and all of them have at least one god-pallet. The main building has two. The loops are often more aligned and well-connected than those of other maps, and sometimes the map can even spawn two pallets in a single tile (not on a particularly strong tile, but still, in one that is often either near shack or between the main building and the House of Pain), depending on the loop RNG.

I've seen it said multiple times this week but are Survivor really going around throwing pallets? Do people have Bond and witness this?

Yeah, but why should he talk about those? The title of the video is "This is what I hate about DbD…", not "Everything wrong with DbD right now". God forbid having personal tastes.

People should stop demanding everyone to be neutral and unbiased all the time regardless of context and talking as if personal bias was some unforgivable sin that takes all your credibility. Everyone has opinions, biases and personal experiences, and it's not possible to just turn them off. It shows up even when someone is trying their best to be professional, it shouldn't be held back in a video that is making itself clear to be about things one dislikes based on personal experience.

Also, I would argue the Vecna map is actually killer sided. Having bad stuff for both sides doesn't mean it doesn't favor a side over the other, and the killer is usually the one that gets to choose how bad will the map be for the match: just ignore the underground gens, protect the ones in the surface, don't go to the main building unless every survivor is there, and as long as you keep at least 3 gens up there, you get a smaller map with quite a small number of pallets or decent loops that survivor HAVE to traverse at some point if they want to win.

Windows of Opportunity is a very common Survivor perk. I've always trusted these arguments because they would see the pallets fall over if they use Windows, and I've spent at least 1000 hours using Windows of Opportunity alone over the years.

I would say that I play Dead by Daylight 40% Killer / 60% Survivor. To me, it doesn't really matter if Vecna's map is killer or survivor sided. It's one of those maps that put me in a bad mood when I get forced to play on it, in either role. Calling the map "Poop Castle" is a really good way to describe the experience of slogging through it. The underground area is extremely visually interesting to compensate for how boring and uninteresting the upper floor of the map is—but you tend to get chased where the map is boring because four generators are above ground. For Killers, you never want to enter the castle for any reason — but that means you spend the entire game in the most boring part of the map.

Well, I agree with everything you said about the map. I mentioned it's killer-sided because the previous person I had replied to said SpookyLoopz only mentioned maps that favored survivors, which I don't think is true.

The only times I see what looks like survivors just using pallets is either they're doing a "drop x pallets while being chased" challenge or they're someone upset that they were rescued when they were trying to kill themselves on hook so they go around wasting the pallets that are left.

I think most of the time this complaint is just people having different opinions for when you should/shouldn't use pallets - usually both players think they know best and any time someone else throws down a pallet it's just wasting a pallet. I'm sure there's plenty of people who see with woo a pallet go down and a survivor get downed at basically the same time so they think pallet was wasted. From the downed survivors POV they stunned the killer but thanks to latency they think that hit was an unfair hit. So you have survivor 1 watching and complaining pallets are just being thrown, and you have survivor 2 thinking they did the right thing but it's one of those situations where latency ruined it.

Midwich and Haddonfield are pretty rough, with iirc 2 of Coldwind's maps also being challenging, but most killers don't play these maps correctly. Granted, most Survivors don't play Eyrie of Crows or Badham correctly either, but Survivors playing a map poorly vs a Killer playing a map poorly is a large difference in favor of Survivors.

Additionally, Survivors gain more consistent value from map offerings, as they have 4x the offerings a Killer has per Trial. A Killer could bring Midwich, but if two Survivors bring Eyrie then the Killer is much less likely to have a good time.

Lastly, while Midwich and Haddonfield ARE quite difficult maps to play as Survivor, Survivors have multiple perks and strategies they can use on those maps to alleviate the advantage the Killer has. I still believe they should be changed, but they aren't necessarily auto-wins for any Killer aside from Nurse (who doesn't care about the map anyways). Maps like Eyrie or Badham, on the other hand, require the Killer to have chosen the right Killer (one that offers both mobility and anti-loop, which is a great limiter and favors the upper echelon of Killers substantially) to play in order for the game to be tilted in a similar way. Sure, strong perks like Corrupt and Pain Resonance can help a bit, but not as much as Balanced Landing or Sprint Burst can on Midwich or Haddonfield.

A main reasons maps matter more to Killers than Survivors is because some Killers can near-automatically lose based on the map. Survivors don't have that experience just by virtue of not having a Power that can potentially be map-dependent, like Huntress' or Trapper's.
