Please dont turn Skull Merchant into Twins 2.0
The proposed gameplay changes in is pretty bad in my opinion, mostly because I don't like playing the Twins, but also because the way BHVR is describing her new gameplay is going to repeat all the mistakes made with Twins, in my opinion.
You see, You place a VictorDrone around the map and Survivors who run into it activate the VictorDrone and then Charlotte Merchant remote controls the Alerted Victor Drone and if she is good, you get downed and if she is bad nothing happens or she tries again until she runs out of Drone Juice.
Why is this bad, well being able to down at long range means the Survivor has to be face first down into the ground and wait, which is bad gameplay for the Survivor. And the Killer has to trod and wade through parts of the map to get to you and HOPE nobody has gotten you up again. Its just awful gameplay for both sides.
I really really don't like this design preview, because it just makes it easier for Skull Merchant to slug and it pushes her gameplay in the direction of one of the least enjoyed Killers.
It feels like a threat to Survivors, honestly… please engage in the Counterplay against the Drones or you might run into it during a chase, which will make Skull merchant able to pull a Twins on you. When we know damn well, SoloQ Survivors DO NOT LIKE to play Drone games and especially not for someone else.
Please go back to the Drawing board with this one, Twins gameplay is so awful too because you have to stop and sit still and then re-engage and move Killer again. At least Singularity can teleport and the Knight has a Guard to potentially make the chase go on. But if you fail as Twins, you lose your Power AND the chase, I know ill hate it.
I honestly didn't expect to have paid for another Twins, I already have one.
Suggestions for other direction to take Skull Merchant.
- Just make the Drones lock onto a Survivor and follow that one Survivor, make the Eyes in the Sky come true.
- Drones 3.0. Make the following Drone just spy, it will try to have a direct line of sight and it will try to move away when the locked on Survivor. Make a Team-mate hack the Drones who follow their friends.
- Make the Skull merchant always be on the move, the radar is already such good gameplay.
- Make the Drone able to spot hiding Survivors in lockers again.
Key take aways from this:
- No more, red light green light counterplay. Survivors dont like it.
- No more Killers who stop and wait while a mini creature chases for them, unless they have an exceptional catchup mechanic like Singularity or Knight.
Remaking the Killer a new way is hard, so many pitfalls and disappointments can come from this so easily.
People who have enjoyed gameplay or a character is thrust into new gameplay, which is why I hope you dont just look at the feedback on the idea you guys came up with, but more what other ideas people rather want.
Again, Really dont want Twins 2.0 Skull merchant, Dont do it please, I cant.. I dont want that…

Yeah, it seemed like someone was trying to create a way for Skully to be even more hated.

Im not that cynical, thinking about it adding more Skill expression is a good idea, I'm sure the intention is benign.
But it also means that those things rock the casual players the wrong ways and this mostly is a casual game, so there is a fine balance which can be very hard to predict. Also consider that some of the best gameplay has come from Dash Killers, Wesker, Dracula Wolf, like seems like a good idea to take some of that into Skull Merchant. But remote controlled dash drones seems bad to me, maybe if Skull merchant could dash like Pig but like Wesker if would be way better. one can dream!
God, Dash me and slam me into the wall, Adrianna you fiend!

Actually… @PetTheDoggo what if the Skull merchant had the Dash and not the Drone, what would you feel about that as a conceptional idea at this point?

I suggested that some time ago that I would want drones to work purely as information power and give her some form of classic anti-loop.
I don't want any "take control", or "AI" with drones. Just let them be some stationary beacons to give info.0 -
Strongly agree with you and I love your suggested changes to her drones.
I really want them to have Skull Merchant and her drones be the best information killer on the roster, not some version of Twins. I want to be able to use the tracker and good drone placement to have constant tabs on all the survivors; to actually use the tracker and feel rewarded from it. Your suggestion of having drones lock-on, follow survivors and provide info to the killer would be a good way of achieving this. Needing another teammate to do the hack creates interesting counterplay and teamwork. All of this is in line with Skull Merchants identity which Drone Propulsion mechanic is not.
As for her passive drones I get why they want to nerf them and for the most part I agree with it, however there needs to be compensation buffs and changes otherwise what is the point of them other than Drone Propulsion launch points. Drones should still apply claw traps to scanned survivors and also provided even stronger info than before to compensate. 12 seconds of information can't be all stealth drones are good for in this new rework. Tracking needs a longer duration and Claw Traps should be easier to apply given the removal of hindered, haste, etc. Basekit pallet breaks if survivors vault with a Claw Trap would be a good way to give her some chase power and keep Claw Traps relevant. Ideally buff these aspects of her drones while removing the Drone Propulsion mechanic.
Keep going in this direction and she can be a reasonable strong and fun stealth/info killer with no need for this new Drone Propulsion stuff that makes her uninteresting. She needs to have a power but also an identity that is unique from the rest.
The information and stealth based gameplay on an m1 killer was what made Skull Merchant interesting and fun. Seeing BHVR basically make her another Twins as you put it is incredibly disappointing.

I like the idea of a follower drone, probably even more than Drone Propulsion.
However, I do like the Red Light, Green Light mechanic too. That one would be fine to stay.

I'm personally not a fan of Skull Merchant again becoming a, "Oh she's gonna set up a trap and now I have to deal with BS" Killer.
Have you ever seen or played the game Baldi's (I forget what its called.) There is a enemy in that game, which walks around and follows you and then when it gets you, you have to do a lil annoying minitask like jumprope or something.
That thought is actually very funny to me, Having Drones, spot and follow a survivor and then periodically you have to be annoyed by it. While SM is moving in on your location. That would really make it necessary to remove the drone, maybe it could work.
