Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Perk discussion : surge

I love surge. But theres definitely 2 big problems with it

  1. The m1 requirement limits it but doesn't stop it from being overwhelming. At this point, all it does is stop the perk from being used on blight and nurse, which brings us to the second problem→
  2. The area of effect is really big. Like, too big on a lot of maps. On a map like gideon meat plant it hits nearly every generator on every down. This sucks even if it's a trapper running the perk.

If the area of effect was scaled down I believe it could be made to work on every down without being overwhelming. It's most oppressive in a 3 gen sitituation where it can often hit 2-3 of the generators at once. I'm using it on houndmaster and it feels really, really strong with how powerful her chase is. Yet you can't use it on someone like wesker, who's power functions in a similar but weaker manner. It feels like an odd design choice at this point in the games life span.

I'm no game dev, and I'm certainly not a highly skilled player. But these are my proposed changes

-make the area of effect 24 meters OR change it to only effect the generator with progess which is closest to you.

-change it to work when a survivor is put into the dying state by any attack.

If the m1 requirement being lifted proves problematic, then I believe the regression amount could be lowered to even 6% and still be worth running, as the best part of this perk is not having to take the time to kick a gen.

Anyways, like I said I'm only an intermediate level player at most. If there's a huge problem I'm overlooking with these proposed changes let me know. I do enjoy discussing game balance and learning!

I'd propose a similar change, while I don't think altering it's AoE would be the best idea (one way ticket to making the perk map dependent), I would agree on removing the M1 requirement.

I think that the best change to make from that point would be introducing a cool down, just to avoid situations of rapid slugging getting ridiculous value from Surge, maybe like a minute or so? A decent part of that cooldown would usually be spent hooking the survivor anyway so ideally the killer wouldn't feel the need to wait for the perk to come off cooldown before downing a survivor often.

Also I apologise if this reply is formatted poorly, I feel as though I've jumbled up my thought process and made my proposal difficult to understand.

I understand your points! I Believe surge did originally have a cool down, which is why I didn't suggest it. The other proposed change to make it work on only the closest currently worked on gen would technically be a side grade as it could theoretically damage a gen on the other side of the map. That would have it's own problems too though I suppose.

Surge is fine. It's only 8%

The state of gen defence perks is definitely at all time low if now people think Surge is worth complaining about lol. In my survivor matches playing against it 8% does almost nothing.

I agree. If two Survivors are on the gen, that 8% barely slows them down. Please don't get my favourite regression perk nerfed. It really doesn't need to be :(

Reducing the area of effect will destroy a lot of the fun of the perk, too. I like making lots of gens go kaboom.

I'd hate to see this perk get worse just for killers like blight and nurse to be honest. But it would be nice if it's more universal

Unfortunately you can't make m1 perks work with m2 hits almost exclusively because of those two killers. I really wish something would be done about that, it's making a huge bottle neck for every other killer in the game.

Oh surge is fine from the survivor side I'm complaining about it from the killer perspective. I added the extra little nerfs because of nurse and blight. I hate those two killers they mess everything up for everyone else

M2 killers have plenty of options to choose from already

You nerf surge you going to nerf Mayers, Ghostface and other already weak killers to the ground, Surge is the perk that makes those characters remotely playable by being able to keep pressure and have some sort of gen regression. You nerf surge and everyone will play blight and nurse.
