No PTB dev update today?

I was really hoping we would see the ptb changes today but seems like that might drop tomorrow instead

Don't the updates usually come out on Tuesdays?

We're not going to be publishing a PTB - Live Developer Update, we're looking to move away from those (timelines are super tight around them). We've given out most of the changes - explained about Xenomorph etc, so we'd ideally like the Livestream and the Patch Notes give the main updates.
Going forwards we're looking for other ways to get this information to players without the blog.

For the curiosity's sake, could you elaborate on why exactly dev updates are so tight for scheduling? I always percieved them as something that is done with ease but if it isn't it'd be intersting to know why and perhaps what other possibilites could you explore to gather preemptive feedback.

This is really disappointing to hear. The blog posts are extremely helpful to keep up with these changes. If they're going away, there should really be a more accessible way to get them than having to watch or search through a several hours long livestream.

Pre-emptive feedback on the PTB - Live changes isn't really a focus, we focus much more on the feedback once something is live and people have had a chance to play it, it's always been more of an update than anything else.
The scheduling is tight because the plans have to be finalised then tested, then we write the blog, then it has to be reviewed, then localised, then the localisation needs reviewing also by our Regional CM's, that can often mean that it's running very close to the PTB itself before being published. We're looking at other ways to get this information to players, potentially in the form of AMA's, Q&A's which would be around the same time.
For this particular PTB we also have the Livestream where we'll be giving out a lot (if not all) of the information on what's changed, we already shared the changes for Xenomorph based on the PTB feedback and there's minimal changes on anything else that was in the PTB.

Agreed. The blogposts also often provide important context to changes (ie. why a change is being made/what the devs think about something that's being changed) that the patch notes don't really provide. I always read the patch notes too, but they just aren't the same in that regard.
If there's a specific reason why the timeline surrounding these blogposts is tight, I'd definitely be interested to learn what it is and why, and hopefully they can come up with an alternative solution.

It’s sad that we won’t get them anymore. I always looked forward to them.

That's understandable but i admit no dev update was worrying, i suspected that there was no dev update because the changes would have caused a reaction that wanted to be avoided.
-1 -
Well why would you change something while knowing that people are not gonna like it in the first place.
4 -
Because sometimes they choose to make changes that are recieved negatively but they ultimately believe is for the better.
Personally, i found ghoul to be the strongest new killer on PTB in like the last 4 years, so i would have been disappointed but not surprised if he got a lot of nerfs.0 -
I made a forum account just for this.
I don't have the time to watch 60-80 minute live streams for information that should just be in a blog post. This is also just going to make knowing changes even harder than it already is.
Is this some sort of April Fools joke??

There will still be patch notes for the live releaase, which you can compare with the patch notes for its PTB.
The Developer Update is basically just an additonal piece of information in-between patch notes that highlight the most impactful changes made, but certainly not all of them. That's what the actual patchnotes are for, those are the full list of things that come with the patch itself.-3 -
Totally udnerstandable. Will this also affect monthly dev updates as well or just the PTB - live changes?
1 -
only the PTB - Live ones, we will continuing with the ones prior to a PTB as normal.

Just to be sure: You think about moving away from PTB to Live Dev Update but everything else like the monthly dev Update (when announcing new stuff and changes) as well as the dev update when a new patch goes live will stay as it is?
potentially in the form of AMA's, Q&A's which would be around the same time.
Depending on the form, not a fan of it, especially when its hold on reddit. If it's a livestream with then a quick summary of the news after it then it would be okay - I am a huge fan of your livestream, because its always funny and entertaining and I hope we'll get more of them. However, there are many players who don't have the time to watch a whole livestream or check many different questions on reddit to see if the devs gave a useful answer.
We've given out most of the changes - explained about Xenomorph etc,
I loved the quick news about the Xenomorph and that many of the changes won't hit the live servers. However, it was kinda sad that you posted this only on Reddit without sharing it on social media or forum. I follow different dbdnews accounts and stay up-to-date but there are other players who don't follow other accounts (only follow you) and therefore miss these important information. I had a similar issue with the Trickster Preview that was only hold on reddit. Luckily, we can now give our opinion via a survey which is much easier.

it seems werid that you guys think a livestream is less punishing for time reasons then a simple dev update you can read. That reasoning makes 0 sense to me.
4 -
yes this is only referring to the PTB - Live Dev Update, not the one prior to a PTB.
And we did post the information regarding Xenomorph on Twitter and the Forums as well as Reddit, we try to cover as many platforms as possible when we respond to people with information like this.
The Xenomorph changes CANNOT go live for the health of the character — BHVR
The livestream is already planned in advance, and the information is given out live there, meaning that something doesn't need to be written and translated and reviewed once any changes have been decided - there's a good 10 days turnaround on all that, which isn't necessary in a Livestream.

I hope the team reconsiders this change and walks back on it. I know myself and many others really looked forward to the dev updates from PTB-live and it was more important than just putting it in the patch notes since the dev updates gave the “Dev Notes” that allowed us to understand your reasonings behind the changes. It was also very convenient to have a quick 5 minute blog post to look over and expect what’s changing.

nothing is set in stone, we will try other things first, and see how it all does over the course of time.
We can get those Dev Notes on the Patch Notes as well.

Just one more terrible decision from BHVR. Since the Skull merchant, every change goes a bad way, maps, perks balance, boring killer to face against, events, every the same things, now, even the modifiers, every single time is the same things, just bad decisions and now until the patch notes was affected. I dont know where they want to go.I love this game, but, was so much better 3,4 years ago, was so much more enjoyable than today, even the hype about new chapters. All aspects were much better.
3 -
how will the livestreams be? straight to the point or snooze fest of useless info and plug in of sponsors? like a 5 min video turning to 20 min of usless BS

Please add Shanoa as a legendary skin for trevor T_T
Also does that mean all chapters will have a livestream?

Shhh. There is a Chance that they changed a perk behind the Scene.. 😁

This game was not better 3 or 4 years ago. It was heavily unbalanced. lol
4 -
Agreed everything before 6.1 was way better.

This game was so much enjoable to play years ago, especially for soloQ, even without those "helps" we have today. Now, every single match we experienced is a championship match, its a give up horror show, disbalanced teammates or players u go against, u feels demotivated after 1 minute after the beggining of the match today, the question isnt if the game was unbalanced or not, was more enjoable. Today is boring and unplayable for soloQ, new killers, new maps, news perks, every decision from BHVR, especially change rank system to this horrible MMR, they made the game so much boring than before. They know it, year ago we dont have modifiers, matchmaking incentives, bloodrushs during the year like now. Today we have something everytime, years ago we had some bloodpoint rush 2 or 3 times per year, and even those "incentives" we have today, the player base still the same or even smallest than years ago. I love this game, but, yes, today the game is much boring to play than before.

I'm starting to feel like my killer style is going extinct. If it's a balanced match, I play to win. If the other side is having a hard time, I ease up, and if something really bad happens like someone "going next" right off the bat, I usually declare the match a bust and just let the remaining survivors repair up and escape. I'm not out for anyone to have a miserable experience. I also almost always give hatch unless the last survivor was toxic\cheating. I'm a P100 ghostie, so it's not like I need the BP\4K.

I understand the restraints can factor in releasing any update information. However, when we get this live developer update it gives us an opportunity to see what changes are happening and process all of that information. For me, when I see them, I glance them over and then I watch other creators like PaulieEsther, Otz, Hens etc…that goes into more depth about the update and giving us their views on the changes and thoughts about it. Seeing this disappear is a big disappointment and I do hope that it does come back.
Thank you for notifying us. 🙂

The Developers Update are awesome. Don't move away from those 🤗
2 -
Let's be real, the majority of players don't read dev notes or even patch notes sometimes. Sure they MIGHT glance over them if it's a chapter that piqued their interest, but a lot just don't pay attention at all. I'm not saying there should not be Developer Updates, but you gotta consider how many people actually benefit from it you know apart from the most dedicated players.

I imagine most players just fired up Otz/Scott Jund/Tru/Paulie a day or two before a chapter or major update, if they do any research at all.
