Your experience against/with the new killer so far
So I was just curious about your experiences going against the new killer.
So far he is down right slaughtering me and my teammates and people have already started to give up once they get hooked. We rarely get more than two gens done (by "we" I mean my soloq team). I admit I'm not a very good player but getting stomped like this feels unusual tbh.
In my experience new killers tend to have rather low kill rates right after the release before people truly master them.
So what changed here? Are you guys having fun going as and against him? How has it been for you so far? :)
Edit: Just got out from a game where someone went afk right at the start and for the rest of the trial. :I

I usually wait to play Killer for a day or two so the queues are less extreme.
I’ve played against him a couple times and I can’t seem to figure anything out about him. How is he hitting me from the other side of a rock/debris? Why are they ready to attack again almost as soon as his jump ends sometimes?
Is there something I’m missing? why are people calling him bad?
39 -
Yea I've asked myself the same question. Guess I gotta watch some tutorials or something because every game is a stomp atm :>
18 -
People ALWAYS downplay how strong a new killer is. Admitting something is over tuned will cause it to get nerfed faster. People who mostly play one side don't want to see this happen.
23 -
:3
-3 -
I'm not playing alot of killer, and when I do it's usually trapper. His power is easy for me to understand, but I gotta admit that I'm tempted to try the new killer.
Having fun so far?
4 -
I’ve felt the same playing against him. He doesn’t seem to have a tell for anything he does. I also think his mobility is far too oppressive, particularly in the late game.
26 -
At the moment the game doesn't care about rocks between you and the survivor, if he's able to aim at you and you run behind a rock he will hit you no matter what. You can attack so quickly if you instantly cancel while sliding: you can't cancel while being in the air with your power, but as soon as you touch the ground you can cancel it and you'll still slide - so if you're sliding besides the survivor with precision you can m1 almost instantly, because the stun happens while you're sliding.
Also I don't call him bad, but some people seem to think he's a second nurse or blight for some reason. He's simply a better legion where you actually feel like you're able to do something.
4 -
nice you got the skin too! How does ken feel like for you? :D
3 -
He's currently busted and needs some tweaks. I'm done playing for now.
35 -
First game. Not bad - I wanted to play more ghoul in the ptb but didn't have the patience. I would blame the L on not knowing how to play the killer yet but the 4 I went against were pretty rock solid.
Killer seems solid too for the most part. Feels like Legion in the sense that you catch up to survivors fast with the power but cannot use it to down them. How ever, using the power in chase seems really nice at least for now. I fear that BHVr will nerf tf out of the movement and gob is gonna lose all his staying power. But idk I'm just a whale. TL;DR I had fun1 -
I like him a lot so far. Got a little frustrated with the power a few times going in and out of range - stuff like that. But he feels good to play as killer. I imagine survivors are feeling less than satisfied rn unless they are tokyo ghoul fans.
4 -
Or survivors scream "OP killer plz nerf" when the killer is brand new and nobody has even learned how to play against them effectively.
Wesker, Houndmaster, Unknown, Pre buff Dracula, and now Kaneki
-18 -
People have to learn how to play against him first, literally every single new killer people say that they are op. And almost every single time bhvr overnerfs them for no reason at all xD
-8 -
Just got downed from an m1. Not used power on me either. lol
Not exposed in anyway.
Game is also stuttering like crazy again for me. Unbelievably annoying at this point.
Not reporting any of it as they make it a chore now. It' not our job to fix your game we pay you!
I would report out of passion before but when you make it an ordeal I'm out.
2 -
thank you for explaining it to me! I guess it just feels unpleasant to play against them. I’d rather face nurse or blight tbh. I’ll just wait until killer queues go back down and try him myself in a couple days.
6 -
Yeah I can’t say that having to watch a YouTube video to understand a Killers power is great for the game or solo queue.
I don’t like a lot about this killer but watching him leap away with Kindred is amusing at least.9 -
I notice that I see his little tentacles all over the map with kindred on, even when he's out of range. It's like a little floating octopus zooming across the map.
7 -
I've played 6 matches so far, 1 was a 4 escape, the rest were all 4ks. Definitely a very strong killer. The ability to zoom in front, cut off the loop, and then switch to down is what I keep getting downed to, because I'm now in an open space so there's nothing to work with. It's still too soon to pass judgment, in my personal opinion. If I reach around 25 games and all but 1 or 2 are 4ks, then I'll probably have my opinion. It's fun seeing him zoom though!
13 -
Yup.
Hes right behind nurse. Up there with billy and blight for sure.
He actually has some nurse like moves and play you can do with the afterspeed on his power. It behaves less like wesker and more like nurse with how you can play loops.
Covers way too much distance, no cooldown at all, moves at 115…, you will always be injured….., 3 charges is up permanently…
Facemask addon is broken as hell…
Oh well I guess! Other games to play17 -
So far going against the killer hasn't been that bad, the issue is that it's every match at the moment. I can deal with that but it seems many people can't and they just DC and go next. It's been almost every match so far. Way worse now than it was last night which is saying something lol.
8 -
This killer is BORING as hell to face against, worst than Chess Merchant.
19 -
I escaped him my first match against him but every Kaneki after has been very toxic, combined with AFK teammates making the games unplayable.
-1 -
After 20 or so matches my biggest issues I've seen is how fast he catches up. He's always ontop of you.
If he uses his power and it doesn't count... I.E... his first tentacle or after he marks you and it hits... it still stops you dead in your tracks and slows you down preventing any distances no matter what the outcome.
15 -
In theory, I really liked the idea of a killer who incentivizes you to play tiles instead of trying to hold W.
In practice, if he sees you and you're not immediately next to something you can start looping, you just die.
Also, the most tilting thing in the entire game to me is Wraith cutting you off at a window or pallet, and that's the Ghoul's entire method of getting downs. So I find him particularly annoying.
I see people compare him to Wesker, but Wesker is 10x more fun. Wesker's rush is a skill shot that he's punished for missing, the Ghoul doesn't miss.
26 -
I’m excited about him and not a Tokyo ghoul fan, I’m already finding counters, perk reliant, but counters none the less.
-1 -
it’s really bad against a team. Even a bad one. But if you’re playing solo queue I definitely think he’s a solo queue stomper
2 -
He’s just too damn easy. On both sides. The hit feels unrewarding because I didn’t work for it. And there’s nothing I can do against the first hit because it’s essentially automated.
25 -
I've only played two games against him and he seems fine so far
-12 -
Experience as a Survivor is he's pretty cringe, op, and overall lame to go against. As others have said, he's hitting from the other side of a rock, tall debris, or walls so I'm not sure if this chapter is just badly coded or the Devs just decided to give him legit wallhacks, idk.
His map traversal is just the latest addition of BHVR not knowing how to actually balance their game; this Killer is on top of us 2 seconds into every match and traverses these small maps with ease after hooking, they're also great at proxy camping. The only way to win against this Killer is to get a person who's having their first match as them
Also side note, this killer really isn't scary and doesn't really seem to fit in the game; when they're chasing me I'm not feeling the least bit tense and honestly, watching their tentacles, it just looks like I'm being followed by a Pokemon lmao
17 -
Can I just say how ######### this is to have the QoL initiative announced and then a killer like this released? I was hopeful but I'm losing faith pretty darn quickly, I'd like to enjoy the Blood Moon event without having to deal with all my matches forcing me into a specific perk loadout to enjoy myself slightly.
I'm beyond disappointed the more I've played today.20 -
One of the best releases they've had since Wesker. Definitely one of their better chapters they've done (aside from perks, they're trash). Not my personal type of killer but I can appreciate it.
-18 -
It's miserable playing against the new killer, and who knows how long it will be until they make changes? I've also seen many angry people in the end game chat (more than usual). How they thought it was a good idea to release this killer in his current state is beyond me, to be honest.
Edit- I've also seen killer players questioning this killer in end-game chat. You know it's bad when killers are complaining as well, lol.
18 -
Every match I have against Kaneki, the experience gets worse, somehow.
Who thought Yamori's Mask was an add-on that needed to exist? Give him map-wide info for the zippiest killer in the game?
9 -
he’s just so boring I wish they would make it then you actually had to time the m2 yourself but add a way to down with the power + a few number changes like a longer cooldown or more stun when cancelling power or removing the vaulting with it. Stuff like that
1 -
He definitely gets to attack too fast after a leap. I think his base speed should be kept for awhile after the leap as it is now, but he can't attack for like 2 seconds. This killer makes a 20 meter gap between tiles a deadzone just because they can swing right back to you and insta tap, its really boring to play against
16 -
Its usually because it takes time for people to learn how to play against a killer and as a killer. Rather than immediately nerfing something a week after i comes out, give it some time to marinate and see how things go. Once people start learning, then changes can be made as needed.
I come from an era of gaming where you just dealt with the fact that magneto was the best character in MvC2 and you figured out how to beat him, rather than calling for nerfs right away.
The killer has not even been out for a day, people are still figuring stuff out. Give it some time.
-12 -
Got any ideas yet?
4 -
No you didn't, because I came from that same era, and I know damn well that you either had to use characters just as busted as him, or peer pressure them into playing someone weaker.
7 -
You were probably one of the ones that didn't stick around the arcade very long.
-12 -
So what just happened to me basically sums up my only real problem with this killer.
Map was the Pale Rose. I successfully played the tile under the pier and dropped a pallet and blocked the killer off.
However, there were no tiles between the pier and the boat. But I just bought myself a lot of space to reach the boat and continue the chase.
I run to the boat as the Ghoul breaks the pallet. However, I can't reach the boat, because they use their power, intentionally miss me, and then end up next to me. Despite the fact they missed, their movement speed while recovering and time until they can M1 is such that there is literally nothing I can do.
Like, I hate survivors who just hold W, but that's just ridiculous. I don't even know if Blight could have downed me in that situation. Successfully mindgaming and blocking off a killer only earned me enough time for the killer to break the pallet, and then I was dead.
If the Ghoul couldn't just intentionally miss you with power and cancel it to M1 you, I would actually think they're a very fun killer to play against.
16 -
The nature of his power necessitates the hit going through if you're around a corner or behind a gen because it has a travel time. It's like how Huntress hits you right before you round a corner, that's still a legitimate hit, it just doesn't have a delay. Because Kaneki's power has a delay, it LOOKS weird, but it needs to be this way because there are only two alternatives:
1. He just lets you go after he *already lands the hit* on you because it "doesn't look correct"
2. He vacuums you back around the corner to "make the hit look better" and make you lose more distance in the process.
In the first scenario, it feels terrible to play, and in the second scenario, it feels *even worse* to play against than the average player currently perceives it to be.
The hit is perfectly fine as-is in my opinion. There were concessions that had to be made in terms of "feel" because Kaneki doesn't damage you immediately (again, like with my Huntress example.) He hits you around the corner because he locked onto you BEFORE you rounded the corner.
It is 100% working as intended.

Exactly. Sensationalism is par for the course here though.
Just give it time. Figure out counterplay. He's an M1 killer, just one with a lot of mobility. He needs to use it intelligently to get people down with his basic attack.
Asking for knee-jerk reaction changes to a Killer less than 24 hours old is petulant.
-9 -
Exactly. This is the biggest knee jerk on survivors part I've seen so far
-1 -
Being a soloq survivor has been kind of a bizarre experience tonight. Multiple times, if I got hooked one single time my teammates would just let me hang there until I became death hook, and that's not something I usually experience at my MMR. It's like they're terrified to come back to unhook me and would rather sit on gens or hide in a locker until I'm actually on death hook. Either my mmr has miraculously died and I'm playing with people who just started playing five minutes ago or there's some kind of extreme tunneling going on after this new patch and absolutely nobody wants to risk a "back to hook Harry" if they try and unhook me. Wierd.

Do you have any ideas?

- Try to predict him. Is he going to cut you off with his leap or is he trying to catch up behind you?
2. He's an M1 killer. He cannot down you with his power. He can injure you with it, but he's even less efficient at it than Legion. Yes, Legion, while simultaneously sharing their inherent weakness against being ran around loops (no way to hit through or over them.)
3. His power is only nichely usable when looping, so position yourself safely (be near buildings or tiles that reliably waste time for the Killer.)
4. If for whatever reason you cannot reliably position yourself properly, Kaneki doesn't typically use Exhaustion perks which means perks such as Lithe and Sprint Burst will help you connect safe tiles (or reach them in the first place) efficiently.
-8 -
Actually, the thing you described is just how he is supposed to be played. Aiming directly at survivors after they're injured literally does nothing but slowing down the killer a lot.
It's like Blight where you have to bounce before attack. It's the design.
Imagine Blight can't down Survivors, while at the same time he's stunned when you hit injured Survivor. That'll kill this killer for sure.
-1 -
Ye, because he is super easy and op, typical killer main lol
9 -
I don't like how he communicate what's happening. The little red thing is hard to see in chase.
I don't like the grabbing animation. It's visually just bad. The survivor just stops and then the killer takes ages to come close. What even stops you in place?
3 -
He would still have possibly the best map mobility in the entire game, plus free injuries, plus the ability to close the distance instantly regardless of how far a survivor ran. He completely nullifies most exhaustion perks since, they're all based around making distance with the exception of Head On and Background Player. He doesn't care about Sprint Burst, he doesn't care about Lithe, he completely shuts down Overcome, he eliminates the distance aspect of successful Dead Hards.
He'll still force survivors to have to play tiles instead of trying to buy time by holding W, which is something most killers, even good ones, struggle with. And that's a good thing, since pre-dropping and holding W is probably one of the most boring and frustrating things to play against in the game.
He can even still use power to vault windows quickly and even vault downed pallets, which is situationally useful.
The only thing he would no longer be able to do is glide past you to the tile you're trying to run to so you can try to loop him, cancel power, and then M1 you. That's what puts him over the edge, in my opinion. It eliminates the only counterplay he actually has. At the moment, unless two tiles are directly next to each other, the moment the pallet goes down, he wins the chase. The survivor will not make it to another loop.
