Is 3-gen strat back in the game?
I hope devs predicted this and are working on fixing this ASAP because if I see killer protecting 3-gen just to surrender game and this will be counted as my loss, that would be very unfair and probably prolong killer queue even more as I don't know how would this encourage survivors to play game.
Abandon feature wasn't introduced to work in such way.

I remember when we first heard about the abandon feature, everyone was freaking out about all the ways swfs will try and abuse it lol yet here we are
41 -
Yeah, it should obviously not happen like this. And when they first announced the feature, I also did not think that the remaining Survivors will be counted as sacrificed, because then it would have been clear from the start that Killers try to 3-gen just to use the Abandon-feature to get a 4K.
I think it is totally fine that the Survivors are not sacrificed or even count as escaped. Because in the end, it should just be a feature for the Killer to get out of the game in hostage situations and not a tool to get more Kills. A Survivor also does not count as escaped when they abandon the match and this is how it should also count when the Killer abandons. A way out, but not a win.
But now that it counts as a win with sacrifices, it will obviously be more backlash when it is changed (and it should be changed).
35 -
It blows my mind that this works this way.
Just stop the match, fade to black, and freeze everyone's BP to what it was when the button was pressed. No escapes, no kills, basically just the entity shutting down that realm.
The game should never default to "one side automatically wins" in these scenarios, because there's always people who will use that as a win condition, apparently.
42 -
Exactly. It's supposed to be an abandon option, not an auto win option.
34 -
I thought if you abandoned a match it counted as a loss for you, so shouldn't the killer abandoning match mean they lost?
That‘s how I thought it works. LOL. It‘s stupid the other way around.
16 -
Baffles my mind as well. Someone even made a Thread back then that the system should count the Killer-Abandon as a win, but only because this person thought that no Gen needed to be touched for 10 minutes. After being informed that it is that no Gen has to be completed for 10 minutes, they revoked their idea simply because it was clear that it will lead to 3-Gen-situations.
And that the Devs actually count it as a Win for the Killer is the baffling part. I did not go against a Singularity (or any other Killer) who did this yet, but it should just not exist like that.
Just a flat out "Get out of the game for free"-card and this is it how it should be. Not a "I wait 10 minutes while hardcore camping a 3-Gen to win". There was even a post on Twitter where someone said that they went against a 3-genning Singularity and that the Team was working well (no SWF even) to break this 3-Gen and when the Killer was basically about to lose, they just abandoned to snatch the win.
23 -
It literally does not matter 😭 the killer can't protect a three gen forever and even if they do you've definitely maxed out all BP categories by that point

meh its a not a really big deal theres alot of setup to make this work right killer, perks, addons and right map with hope of RNG being favourable (yes i watched the vids and i noticed how much set up is required and luck aswell)
Also there nothing that can be changed without someone killer or survivor abusing it
for example if they change it from completed to touch then it can be abused by survivors who want to hold the game by just touching a gen and then leaving it (i had games like that)
If they change it from revealing survivors and apply expose to them (i do think that it can be a good idea but can see a issue with it) then killer can just do the same thing and wait for 10 mins (thinking about it as i type could be less of a issue if it was just reveal and no expose to them)
So overall no matter what changes there will be ways for survivors and killers to potential abuse it what we got now though like said its not a big deal due to the amount of set up and luck required
Also Cant punish the killer for abandon aswell as that isnt fair for example if killer gets all bots survivors why are they getting punished for doing the abandon correctly if it was set up to punish the killer for abandoning ?
to be fair this abandon system hasnt really been thought of well i would personally like to see it scrap or redesign to fit more naturally game like faster bleed out the longer the survivor been slugged or reveal/expose survivors who dont do a gen in 10 mins (rough ideas not to be taken as this is what should be done obvisouly it needs more development)

It technically never left, but I do agree the abandon feature is very poorly thought out to allow a killer to decide they've won if they can stall for 10 minutes.
19 -
If survivors can't do gens they lost, killer wins. There is a cap on kicks so if survivors do gens in the right order it's very possible to do the last gen in 10min.
Killers should absolutely win if after 10min survivors can't do a gen because the alternative is survivors hide indefinitely to try force a void match because they messed up so much they can't win which isn't fair to the killer that would have won.
Why would any killer abandon the match they are winning if it didn't count as a win when they abandon? It would be like before where matches last up to an hour. 4 survivor not touching gens, hiding, head on builds, greifing the killer and the killer abandons the match with no win? Nah.
I have had countless matches recently where last 2 survivors still try and hide instead of touching the last gens. I was scratch mirror Myers on Hawkins and the last survivors were staying in the areas that I couldn't catch them due to slow speed of the scratch mirror.

is it really though? as the 1st we are hearing about this is from 2 videos from content creators if it was really abused then wouldnt be a uproar on twitter, reddit here in the forums as i check post here in the forum daily and this is only sprang up yesterday (granted we might see a small uptick due to the videos but im confident when people see the set up and luck required to make it work then they will stop using it)
Also while that is true with the survivors revealing themselves i do believe the survivors would be smart enough to time their reveal to reduce the risk of getting spotted which again i had those kinds of games most frustrating when they are able to sneak away

if only there was a new gameplay mechanic that allowed players to progress the objective rapidly instead of at a fixed rate to prevent these issues 🤔

There is quite a big difference between having to hold a 3-gen for 1 hour (which would be the time required to hold it until all Survivors are auto-sacrificed due to the game ending) and holding a 3-gen for 10 minutes.
17 -
when did i say survivors leaving early is a huge issue? feels like you moving goalposts here when im trying to bring up civil and fair points regarding to this topic.
Also i said it wasnt a big deal not that its completely fine i just cant see a fair way of changing it without one side abusing it, but whats currently in place is not the worse in terms of abusing the feature.
i think its kind of obvious on which side i play mostly based off my name but doesnt mean im always going to take one side regarding topics as showcase in this topic i given examples of 2 changes where one can be abused by survivors and the other by killers.
I have said my peace anyway if you choose to ignore it down vote whatever that is fine but again i think this issue has been overblown and not a big deal
-17 -
3 genning is survivors fault at this point. it's always been but there aren't any excuses especially if the killer intentionally lets 4 gens go to 3 gen
-19 -
Why is this even possible? Why didn't they just add the condition that the killer has to have a chasetime under a certain amount? That would fix the entire tactic already probably xD
9 -
No, not really. There are situations where Killers play for a 3-gen from the start. Especially if they can do it with their Killer, e.g. Singularity. And while Singularity might not be able to hold a 3-gen for 1 hour, they can certainly hold it for 10 minutes.
27 -
So, are we asking for the 3-gen to last longer than 10 minutes? Would people here feel better if it were the survivors that had the power to end the match?
-10 -
There are a number of killers that can move from one gen to the next regardless of where they are on the map within a handful of seconds and/or are able to remotely apply pressure on gens. The gens will get done eventually but usually the 8-kick limit is reached after 10 minutes, regardless of how well survs apply pressure; they have to move, they have to reset, they have to deal with killer kits that send them on frequent sidequests (worst offenders here are Singu and the mend-all-the-time killers with high-ish mobility) and that costs time.
Well, I suppose it's just yet another reason why I don't even play this game anymore if it isn't for friends pressuring me to join. The things we do for friends.

Hey siri, play this is why we can’t have nice things by Taylor swift.
12 -
I’m sure this was added as a way to stop the last survivors hiding and not touching gens until the server shut down, I definitely think this is an unintended oversight and they should change it somehow as this 3 gen holding is not gameplay I’d want to see encouraged.
Maybe as others suggested the timer could reset as long as a survivor touched a gen and would therefore not be hiding without revealing themselves, or at least giving killer an area to search?
8 -
if the killer is intentionally going for the 3 gen and nothing else after 1-3 gens pop (depending on if survivors group on gens or not) the survivors should immediately find out where the he killer is and break the 3 gen
-13 -
This abandon feature should count as part of the “anti hiding” quality of life that killers are supposed to get. Because it only really happens when survivors are excessively hiding.
-18 -
On our side that's how it does work, its considered a loss for the killer. Just the visual on the endgame screen doesn't reflect that - it's been brought up with our QA team to fix. If the killer uses the Abandon feature, it's is most definitely counted as a loss.
47 -
Had a wesker match on Gideons where we popped 3 gens quickly. At this point the killer stopped hooking and left everyone slugged after chases. It took us a while to regain momentum picking up teammates and trying to reset. We finally recovered, finished the last 2 gens, and AFTER the gens were completed as I'm on my way to start a gate, the killer abandons and we all die. This is some bs
8 -
If survivors abandon the killer still gets full points for hooks and kills. Why doesn't a killer abandon give survivors the points for escaping? It robs them of a large amount of bp for the match.
14 -
would it still be counted a loss if all remaining survivors are bots? since it doesnt seem fair for this to count towards a loss
3 -
I believe if anyone DCs, the outcome doesn't count at all
2 -
I really do hope that it does get changed to better reflect this. Not everyone reads Patch Notes or stays entirely up-to-date on everything, so I think the game should overall do a better job on communicating information like this without requiring external knowledge or information.
(Also Im glad to see more Developers/Community Managers speaking with the community over the past few months, it feels like yall have been more active than before and communication is nice to see.)

I'm hoping I'm misunderstanding something, so maybe you can clarify.
On our side that's how it does work, its considered a loss for the killer.
So by "counts as a loss" I assume you mean for MMR purposes (as well as on the end game screen).
Because if that's the case this seems like the worst possible implementation of this feature. The survivors die from their perspective, and at minimum didn't escape, the killer is in control of the entire situation, and except for some hidden, back-end number the game is a killer win with a 4k from the perspective of all players.
If that also lowers MMR for the killer, doesn't that just encourage some people to do this excessively? You can frustrate your opponent, win every match, and your games get easier all at once?
This should at minimum be considered a wash/draw for MMR. No one is escaping, and the entity is the one doing the killing here.
Unless I'm misunderstanding something, please let me know.
16 -
The role is killer, not saboteur.
The killer isn't killing in these games, they aren't even pursuing survivors in a 3 gen strategy situation. They're just holding environmental furniture hostage.
I don't think it's controversial to say that if the opponent is doing nothing other than objective denial, it's completely unfun. Boil over, respawning hooks, and "bully squads" have all had various changes, nerfs, and even base kit mechanics added so that killers don't have to deal with the frustration of having a meta of survivors just denying hooks for an hour. (Or, I suppose 10 minutes now)
Holding a 3 gen for an hour wasn't skill before, holding it for 10 minutes certainly isn't skill now. Go defeat your opponent in PVP, not by playing pve gen control simulator.

Surrender Option
Under specific scenarios, it will be possible to Surrender during a trial and retain some progress including:
- Bloodpoints
- Match XP
- Challenge progress
- Emblem scores
Surrendering in the following conditions does not incur a Disconnection Penalty, but will not count as a completed trial and still causes item/addon loss:
Killer:
- When all remaining Survivors are bots
- When no generator has been completed within the last 10 minutes
Survivor:
- When all other remaining Survivors are bots
- When all Survivors are in the Dying State
There's no mention of MMR increase or decrease. It does say the match is viewed as incomplete as though you left the match prior to the system.

Yeah that's why I was hoping for clarification. I'm not sure how else to interpret "it's a loss on the back end".
3 -
Best way to find survivors is patrol gens, this is what the game literally tells killers to do. If survivors are avoiding gens they are avoiding the objective and not engaging in normal play. Why should the killer be punished for survivors not doing what they are supposed to do? Survivors should be doing gens and 10min for 1 gen is plenty of time if they are actually doing them. What's your alternative? Allow survivors to avoid gens and if they can't be completed they hide forcing the killer to abandon denying them the win?
-14 -
It's very funny to me that the only arguments anyone is making in favor of this are the exact arguments people used to defend the chess merchant and related 3-gen play style.
Brother, the devs said "no" when you argued that gatekeeping a 3 gen for 60 minutes without chasing was a legitimate win condition. I have a hard time believing they'll be amenable to the idea that gatekeeping a 3 gen for a shorter period of time is a legitimate win condition. This is settled precedent
21 -
So your motivation for this feature was never that you get out of a hostage situation, but that you can get a win. Ok.
20 -
The MMR stuff is handled seperately, as those are measured differently. I'm talking about how we reflect the information to players - if the killer abandons under those circumstances shown in the video, it's a loss and it's just a bug that it's not reflecting that at the moment. Our team is already working on it.
18 -
That was never the point of it. It was intended to help killers get out of games in which survivors were stealthing around without doing anything to advance the game. It was obviously not intended to buff 3 gen stalling.
19 -
Okay, so then never abandon. Go to one hour if the survivors are being rats.
If the survivors are refusing to complete their objective, that should be their loss, not the killer's.-7 -
Keep up the good topics.
Was just looking at some of your old ones and it was a fun trip down memory lane.
Fortunately, it seems like they came out and said this is a loss for killers.
-2 -
You also make a valid point. 💯
-3 -
"Use this OP build and you will always win". This is some obvious social media engagement farming, there is no point to use it when the match ends anticlimactically with no clear winner.
-4 -
Exactly, if survivors want to hide for 1 hour so be it. I won't throw my match that I'm winning by pressing abandon, I have 1 hour to use to try find these people and I'm using every second of it 😊Having it as killer loses just incentives survivors to hide avoiding gens. I have my way of dealing with this situation which I won't say here but my method prior to the abandon system worked fine.
-14 -
The only ones to gain in that situation is survivors. If the killer has taken out 2 people and the last 2 are hiding with no gens completed, who has more to lose by abandon? Why would a killer choose to abandon and lose a match they have effectively won? I know I wont. Survivors know they lost so they hide but killer still has a chance to find them even if it takes 40 or 50min. I have always said if abandon counts as a surrender and killer loses I refuse to surrender.... Where does that leave us? Same situation as before that survivors were not happy with due to my methods (which I won't say here)
-5 -
There are maybe like ten killer players neurotic enough to do what you're describing so I don't know why anyone should care that you want to waste your time like this.
20 -
3 genning doesn't exists since they introduced 8 kick limit, whether they can win or not isn't even relevant
If no gens are completed for 10 minutes, it should counts as holding killers hostage in a game because finding super stealthy survivor is not possible
