Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Plans to retire The Compendium...why?

So in the post today about the new Rifts and Quests, hidden away at the bottom of the article is this line:

"While we ultimately plan on retiring The Compendium, we still want those older challenges to stick around for a while."

My question is why retire it at all? What do you gain from removing it? And what is "a while"? Is it a year, 2 years, 3 years? Because now a new element of stress and FOMO has been added where I feel like I need to rush through all 23 Tomes worth of challenges or else i'll miss out on all the rewards and bloodpoints. And this is on top of all the new challenges from the quests.

Why not just keep The Compendium there forever so current and future players can always have access to it. Not only for the rewards but as a literal archive of your progress and achievements.

And what will happen to all those charms, banners and badges you can earn from them? Will you then start selling these free earnable cosmetics in FOMO auric cell only bundles? I have so many questions.

one reason I can think of is that keeping them means they have to maintain them. Some challenges can get buggy and need fixing and then there is also challenges that might be tied to perk effects which may be reworked and thus resulting in challenges that cannot be completed anymore.

also, i though the charms can only be obtained when you complete the levels while the rift/tome is active?? But anyway, they will find their way into the in-game Shop eventually I would assume

I didn't realize they were getting rid of the old tomes :( I have all of them done except for 21 and 22… but if they are just going to eliminate them, why bother? I worked very hard (before the last two updates) to have 100% achievements and 100% tome completion… now I'm a bit behind with the two tomes and 4 achievements to complete… but still… if they get rid of the old tomes, I will be sad :(… they are sort of a bragging right.

I suspect this is a move to encourage people to play more regularly. With the old system you had unlimited amount of time. With this new system the quests will disappear after a while. Am I understanding that correctly?

Honestly trying to find a quest to do in the tomes was incredibly annoying and hard as well as all the casuals I play with ALWAYS forget to put on the Quest. I mean honestly, How would you have kept the uniqueness and fixed all of the problems with it?

You can currently actually get the reward charms on every Tome page no matter when you complete it, even if it's after the rift has closed. It felt really nice to slowly earn the older Tome charms.

But on the original topic I completely agree, I hate how much FOMO stuff they're adding. I know this is eventually going to make me not care about the game since I can't keep up with it anyway.

I‘m happy with them changing it. I no longer have to select any challenges and they are done passively. That‘s a win for me.

I assume because of some stupid higher up who is demanding the DBD to be more like other games, even (or maybe especially) if it makes things worse.
