What are some reasons stopped you playing killer?
What reasons stopped you playing killer?
I was watching JCglitchmaster latest video about the the latest dbd survey.
One of the questions was about people taking breaks from the game an one question there was a couple of options about things like killer perks, killer addons an camping etc.
But there was nothing about things that specifically only affected killer.
Lots of my friends have given up the killer role for a few different reasons an they only play survivor so I was wondering what stopped you playing as killer?

- no matchmaking
- my one-trick killer being bugged rn
- terrible balance decisions on BHVR side

What's your killer?
seems like so many killer bugged at the moment4 -
i took a loooong break before because if you get to high mmr where survivors blast gens and know how to loop if you don't use a killer with mobility you lose, on top of that the devs were constantly nerfing gen regression (i left wayyy before skull merchant and the gen kick limit)
7 -
Ah yeah the gen defence is not in a good state currently the gens fly by even in my solo games 4 or 5 gens pretty much every game unless team mates are hard throwing.
4 -
Map offerings was a big one. Autohaven Macmillan 24/7 gets so old. I know they are finally on their way out but it's taken so many years to get to this point
Other than that, survivors giving up no matter what you do is also a big demotivation. I know some killer players probably always relish an easy 3v1 but I don't, it's boring as hell there's no stakes.
5 -
gameplay is the exact same for 95% of matches and having to sandbag yourself for that 95% is boring af
1 -
Ah yeah map offerings are super annoying use to be garden of joy they try send me to a lot but now is authaven, mcmillian an badham, I always grind the webs for the sac wards

Overbuffing.
Most of the killers I went to play are now unhealthily strong. It takes all the fun out of it.
My hope is that BHVR reins in the killers I main just a tad so I can play them again, though!

I never played as a single killer, I played all of them, but there are too many of them in the game and I gradually lose my skills. for a survivor you don't need to learn so many abilities, and build is the same in 95% of matches.

Oni, i don't even know why they touched him back in Kaneki PTB and i feel like it's gonna take quite a time for him to get back to normal again.
2 -
The implementation of MMR made me quit until Kaneki's release.
I don't like being punished for winning. I don't want my fun casual game to be slowly malformed into something hyper-competitive just because I win a lot. Back then, I also played primarily the weaker killers like Legion and Ghostface so I suffered even more for being good.
"But Leon, you can still 4k at top MMR with those killers!"
You're missing the point.4 -
- too easy
- too easy
- every other game is better as single player

I quit just before chucky was released so it's quite some time. Also I was survivor main, but I played 20-30% killer as well. For killer my main reason was, that my killers were bugged and as survivor was too much unfair in my eyes (I still can't accept 60% kill rate), I just dropped the game altogether. (And survivor is relevant, because if it was still fun, I would eventually pick another killer in that time non-bugged killer same way I did before with doctor, wraith, spirit, nurse, oni, etc).
Specific bugs - Cenobite camera was dizzying. (My chasing) Bubba could loose his power altogether for rest of the match.
-2 -
Game has gone ridiculously faster due to nerfed gen regressions and buffed chase capability, not to say it's bad but one mistake can certainly cost much more

Boredom. 8 years of playing will do that. Not the game's fault. The chapter drops are nice but I find myself dipping out sooner and sooner.
That, and killer just takes so much undivided attention. It's like being the lead role in a play. The game hinges on the killer role to function, otherwise it's just M1 simulator for the other players. It's untenable and too stressful when you got other things going on. I guess you can try to play and not care but then you could just do/play something else.
3 -
Finished all challenges…
Right now kinda refuse to go back until they fix Oni, who was my main killer.0 -
This. I'm an incentive main.
Also, lol at the people who think the game got too hard because they hit top MMR. Like… what did you actually think was going to happen? Sorry you can't just keep winning forever…?
-1 -
This. I'm an incentive main.
Same, sadly 100% incentive is not really a thing for past 8 months or so, at least on EU servers.
2 -
what's wrong with oni now is it his flicks still?

Honestly, I rarely play killer because I usually get paired up with survivors who would rather not even attempt to do generators but instead spend all their time messing with the killer. If that's how people want to play, then I'm just not going to play. Even as Survivor, I've had plenty of games where I am the only person doing generators. I've completed entire games as the only survivor to do generators.
It's just not really fun either way anymore, but it's worse as the killer.
1 -
Right now? They killswitched Nemesis.
In general, I rarely play killer because killer often isn't fun. I'm a casual player. What I want is a nice match where I get chase and hooks and then all four survivors escape before I get bored. What I get are either 4 potatoes who are afraid to touch gens, do nothing but hide, and go down the moment I find them; or, I get survivors who rush through the gens and I struggle to get a couple hooks before the match is over. There is no middle ground. SBMM does not match me with survivors who are fun to verse.
I had slowed down on playing killer before Distressing and Beast of Prey lost their BP boosts, but I've practically stopped altogether since. I can't get past the issues when the rewards for dealing with those issues are slashed.
2 -
His flicks are big issue and also canceling dash and demon strike can makou you freeze, or affect movement…
1 -
I also dislike when survivors goof around and throw (from both sides) but I have a hard time blaming them. If playing survivor "for real" was more fun, they'd probably do that instead. It's not their fault.
0 -
I prefer to chill as survivor than sweating as killer.
But I also like to play as killer somtimes.
3 -
I personally stopped playing killer completely because it stresses me out. I tried various techniques to reduce anxiety to no avail, as the second I hit ready and enter that lobby my anxiety shoots up. My longest main killer was Nurse, who I mained from about 2019 - 2023 and in that time I obviously won a lot of matches but I rarely left them feeling good.
So I figured what is the point in gaming if you're not having fun, so I switched to 100% solo survivor and while that has its own problems, it doesn't give me any anxiety like killer did.
3 -
Yeah i have had to have a couple of breaks cause it gets to stressful sometimes as killer.
survivor can be frustrating cause of bad team mates but i don't know what it is but some of the killer games just feel uber stressful3 -
You are the only soul that thinks this way. There are no “overtuned” killers except for nurse.
3 -
A big reason i stopped playing killer was the devs appear to have little interest in handling frustrations killer players face. Then games are either you stomp survivors because they just give up immediately or your get destroyed because you face a team of survivors who actually do gens. Killers have no comeback mechanics while Survivors keep getting more added so you get a bad start as a killer, the game is likely already over.
Then there's just the general toxicity you get as a killer player. Play a killer someone doesn't like, get attacked in end game chat. Win because the survivors messed up, get attacked in end game chat. Lose, get attacked in end game chat. Do a meme build, get attacked because you didn't play "correctly". There's just nothing satisfying about the role and you'll get toxicity regardless of what you do.
4 -
I think the latest survey back ups your point here about frustration there are mulitple reasons for people to tick for sriivors feeling frustrated by killer things but nothing in vice versa.
An yeah the toxicity an pressure you face if you don't win is also a factor. Survivor that pressure is shared killer you are on your own
You win as killer you're a try hard an only won cause of the killer or perks
you lose an you're a loser baby.
strange how it's your skill that makes you lose as killer but if you win it's cause of perks or a power.1 -
Bp incentives and if I have completed all killer rift challenges

It became too easy once I reached a certain skill level.

I stopped playing killer because I focus on underdogs like m1 killers because as a previous survivor main, i wanted to provide more killer variety in matches instead of people just getting s tier killers all the time. Every patch, BHVR makes them less and less viable and more and more frustrating. This patch, they literally gave survivors an AoE team sprint burst that is specifically designed to only trigger against m1 hits (not m2). This means it's designed to only work on the weakest killers making them even weaker while not affecting stronger killers. BHVR blatantly despises m1 killers and continues to make them worst and worst consistently in everything they do.
3 -
I quit for a few months at the height of the MFT Meta because it was just horrible to play into. I don't play S Tier Killers, and they were really the only ones that could deal with it without getting a stress headache. There were cheaters everywhere, the latest Killers (Knight, SM and Singu) were all in really rough places and I'd just hit the wall with MMR, having fewer than 500 hours but going up against players with over 4k hours. The matches were so horrible, so unenjoyable and so frequently toxic that the game was actually hurting my emotional wellbeing.
2 -
yeah with the penti nerf I've had to completely redo my build for my main (plague) and even then there aren't really many good options. I've started running grim+pain res but I've not done much testing for it so Idk if its even good.
0 -
omg MFT era was the WORST. that was the only time i literally boycott the game until it was patched. XD
0 -
Ah yeah it was rough when mft was at it's strongest I remember using it a few times as survivor an was crazy the difference it made.
Hope you are ok now0 -
I never made a claim that anyone else thinks this way.
The post asked why people stopped playing killer. I answered with my reason.
-1 -
SWFs are the reason I stop playing. Nothing BhVR will ever do to try and balance the game matters until they acknowledge and start trying to fix the imbalance that SWFs create.
1 -
honestly, if they only nerfed her synergy with aura perks she'd be perfectly balanced..And then you have...Blight that has quite some problematic aspects.
alright i will bite. If you said plain unhealthy this would maybe be true (Tombstone Myers for example - not strong but unbelievably unhealthy) but acting like killers have been overbuffed when not only 99% of buffed killers aren't really strong at high levels at all, many killers are basically unplayable due to bugs.
I would definitely want to know what "strong" killers you are playing
2 -
I main Singularity. I don't think that's a surprise, given the profile picture.
I'm not going to give you any more listings to use as ammo than that, sorry. And before you start a balance discussion, I don't want to have one. I warned this website that the Hux buffs last year would create a killer that's too strong, and I undersold it - he's even stronger than even I feared he'd be. So save your breath on trying to get your main fixed. Oni players deserve that much.
-1 -
Why is this devolving into a balance discussion? arent we just supposed to be giving our reasons for having stopped playing killer?
-1 -
Whenever i start becoming frustrated with the game, the Killers I play as experiments, or anything that feels like it's making the game bland or unfun, I quit for a while and come back.
When the go next Epidemic began to get so bad I was easily winning all rounds, I quit Killer, and also stopped running tons of strong perks or strong Killers. When the game was unfair to Killers in the old MFT+Hope Meta, I stopped playing because it wasn't fun for Killers I enjoy.
When the game inevitably stagnates or becomes less fun for me again, I will again stop playing Killer. Right now, I'm just having fun again trying to see how well I can do relearning old Killers, learning new Killers, and trying to play fair while doing the challenges. I no longer even care about winning anymore. It's very freeing.
-1 -
Duty of Care procs on protection hits, not just M1's. Special attacks will trigger protection hits.
1 -
Wow BhVR didnt fix that? That makes any killer witha power that does a non damaging hit practically unplayable.
0 -
Unless they changed it recently, it's been only triggering on m1 attacks.
0 -
From what I've read, it looks like the only two non-damaging special attacks that trigger protection hits are Cennobite's possessed chain hits and the Artist's dire crow swarm hits, but I'll test the details of that in a few hours.
It should only be triggering on protection hits on healthy survivors. The perk has stipulations to balance it. Unfortunately, it looks like it is currently bugged and that bug report is currently under review (hopefully patched with the May 15th hotfix), but it is absolutely incorrect to say that the perk was designed only to work with M1's and M1 killers. It is designed to work on all protection hits and is currently functioning incorrectly, not as it is designed.

My reason has been deemed unacceptable by some of those in this thread so I'm being told I'm not allowed to feel the way I do.

I play all the killers and enjoy them all. Tonight, I stopped because of boost mobile being a terrible hotspot provider.

even though Hux is a strong killer and he got dumbed down without reason, saying how he is ridiculously overpowered, especially based on the fact that average pub player fails at macro aspect of the game (which is crucial for countering Hux, is pure nonsense.
