Consumables Uninteresting & Bad For New Players

Currently, a large number of the consumables, particularly for the killers, are rather uninteresting in that they just take the killer's skill and make it better (faster to use, go farther, etc.). There are few that have a counterbalancing debuff paired with the buff; they are largely straight buffs. This not very interesting and makes many of the common consumables a waste as many of them are also just inferior versions of the straight buffs making their less reason to take them as opposed to if they were "lesser" versions having less debuff to counterbalance the less buff could be more interesting.

In addition, players who have already unlocked the perks, etc. they want (i.e. experienced players) have an advantage over newer players in that they can focus their bloodpoints on buying the rare+ consumables which are a hefty advantage. So while new players are not only at the obvious skill disadvantage due to being newer and still learning the game, they are also at an item disadvantage; further widening the gap.

A lot of Addons are bad, but I think you're not giving them enough credit.

Only very powerful Addons need debuffs to accompany them. Straight buffs allow players to patch up the parts of the power that suit them, eg. A Pig might want to lean into Ambushing or might want to make RBTs stronger, and part of that playstyle choice should be choosing between polarising addons with big upsides and downsides, vs simple addons that just allow you to play more comfortably.

Addons that are straight upgrades to others aren't ideal, but as long as it's only in pairs, it's justifiable under the idea it gives you the option to stack the effect.

And IMO the idea that it rewards experienced players too much is wrong. Iridescents aren't always a Killer's best addon (and sometimes their browns are very strong), and even when they are their effectiveness is sometimes gated behind good play, and the bloodweb isn't too stingy about when you get iri addons. Things like the obvious skill gap, and not having many Perks, is gonna be way more impactful for a new player than not having rare addons.

I think Addons are a pretty cool idea, it's just that their execution can be iffy.

Honestly, this user has a point which is many Addons are just "increase X%" which has the endless issue of becoming a crutch.

I think if BHVR wants to really get at this issue, I think making Addons be (chaos shuffle) randomly selected is a cool idea to get people exploring addons. I don't want to leave my comfort zone, but I do want to try something new, and its.. its actually pretty hard to try something new on a regular basis cause you need to get in and mess about and look through the huge list of perks and addons and its just confusing. Anyway side issue.

Yes. I do think addons are generally boring. The addons that just lets you do a thing easier are great, but creates comfort.

Yeah, it's possible to get stuck in a rut and feel unable to play a Killer without a favored comfort addon. (and unfortunately, there are still some Killers who are actually very reliant on certain addons)

I don't think that's necessarily a problem with the addons, though, it's very much a thing with Perks, too. There should be more features encouraging experimentation. A version of Chaos Shuffle that also randomises equipment is a good idea (hopefully with a system that excludes meme addons, alongside stuff on the Survivor's end like No Mither) but I'd also be interested in other ideas that encourage people to switch things up.

Yeah, I get what you mean, its not that the addons are designed wrongly per se, its that sometimes a player can just fall into a comfortable trap. It feels like I trick myself really, because its not like I dont want to challenge myself, its rather that for example having to make a good decision inbetween games is hard and sometimes dont pay out. which is why Chaos Shuffle is so fun, because then its more about thinking, this is what I got and how do I play with that?

Idk, somehow backwards thinking is easier for me than to make a choice.
