Frank Stone is having totally wasted potential
So the livestream for the DBD 9th anniversary brought us some insight into what's planned for the rest of this year including a glimpse at the upcoming and anticipated FNaF chapter and we finally got some new info on another anticipated update and that is of course Frank Stone after not getting much of anything regarding that since The Casting of Frank Stone released back in August of last year.
So we all been looking forward to the Frank Stone killer coming to the game and wondering what his abilities and perks would be only to find out that he's now just gonna be a dang skin for the Trapper! Seriously #########? This totally ruins the concept surrounding him and is honestly a waste of all the lore and world building The Casting of Frank Stone added to DBD like why completely ignore the potential. Minor spoilers below for those who haven't played the game.
Frank Stone regular human form with mask the Trapper gets already from buying the game.
His burned and mutilated form which honestly I hope is the version used at least.
My main issue is in the game Frank Stone has like nothing in comparison to Trapper in terms of abilities he doesn't use bear traps and he later has his burned and deformed design with the large mouth in his chest which he uses to devour the characters and presumably trap their souls.
Sort of resemble's Freddy Krueger's and his chest of souls.
Seriously there was a variety of mechanics they could of had for him as a regular killer, like the consuming someone could be his mori animation but that should also be part of his abilities.
I imagined a concept of there being sort of a combination of like the Dredge and Onryō in terms of his abilities.
On the map scattered about will be projectors showing bits of the Murder Mill film that allow him to teleport through similar to how he comes through the projector screen in the cutscene in TCoFS. Survivors must temporarily disable the projectors to stop him from teleporting. If a survivor is near the screen or interacting with the projector when he teleports they can be grabbed and picked up, if they are on second hook when grabbed they will be consumed in his mouth and killed.
They could've had a whole chapter dedicated to this including some of the other characters from the game like Sam, Madi, Tom, Augustine etc. Also a couple maps based on locations such as the Cedar Steel Mill and Gerant Manor. Yet we dont seem to even be getting a dedicated chapter to this, and "frankly" I don't blame people for being outraged and protesting online that Frank Stone be made into a proper killer and get a proper chapter with other content from the game.

Although the game didn't do super well I still enjoyed my time and the characters within the world, such a shame it's all now wasted.

If he truly becomes a skin for one of the worst killers in the game then i wil NEVER buy any spinoffs from dbd anymore since it doesnt matter anyway. i LOVED his design his sound track i loved the maps the atmosphere the survivors altough they had cheesy lines felt nice to play as. its all just such a wast they alr have: killer model/killer power/chase music/main menu theme/multiple map choices/ multiple survivor choices and last but not least AN ENTIRE GAME WICH GIVES BACKSTORY

When they gave people the mask for trapper everyone was like "cool that works for now, (after playing thr game) wow, looking forword to the chapter" the game prettymuch teases is coming for sure :D
Ends up yet another cosmetic piece for trapper.

i guess the most we can do is scream and get mad to try and make bhvr reconsider since wasting such good story etc on a simple skin would be both a waste of their own ips and their own money since this basically tells us. Look look spinoff game with a cool killer with its own story but dont worry we totally wont put this in dbd/j
2 -
Bhvr even lied and said he wasn't gonna be trapper
3 -
technically they didnt lie since it wasnt bhvr who posted it but it was tcofs devs… and "technically" a legendary skin "changes" the character to not be "trapper" similar to how naughty bear isnt trapper but naughty bear. I still want him to be his own chapter tho with killer/survivor(s)/map
2 -
Same could be said about the Were-Elk but your statement I am afraid is false. Why it changes the full look and design of the killer, the killer still has the same abilities and stats, so it is still just that a reskin. Even if he's a different look and maybe has different animations he will still have the same add-ons and abilities as regular Trapper.
2 -
fair enough, but that is probably how bhvr wil try to reason it sadly :(
1 -
god its really eating at my brain such a good killer with everything ready to go just wasted…
(what they alr have:)killer
survivor(s)
map(s)
chase theme
main menu theme
unique power
mori
and to all the people who say: well it sold bad so it got canned. should bhvr then also remove any character whos not played enough? why should i as a player trust or believe ANYTHING bhvr says when they straight up lie time and time again
2 -
If I did the same thing about something my wife would say I was lying lol. Technically shmecknically. They don't even care to justify. The game bombed, and they are washing their hands of it. Honestly there should have been a chapter with him as a killer on launch day, with exclusive skins if you played both games.

it felt like it was meant for the chapter afterwards (wich we got houndmaster with) bc if it being killer+survivor+map but ig bhvr saw the negative reception (wich they created themselves) and just canned one of IF NOT THE BEST ORIGINAL CHARACTER lore wise

My honest thoughts about Frank Stone is that i think a legendary skin for Trapper is already a hard sell but a Frank Stone legendary is just… trash. I don't think he should be a chapter though.
I don't really like the game and i don't think Frank Stone is very interesting. He looks too much like trapper in human form, and he has no powers in that game, literally m1 killer… like trapper. Yes he has the projector/camera stuff that he was imprisoned in that you could twist into a power but i would rather DBD just leave it behind to be perfectly honest. I just feel like the character has a bad impression, the game was a disappointment.
Frank Stone does not need to be in DBD for that game to work either. The entire point of the game was a look on the outside world of the entity and it did that in a pretty good job in my opinion. But where it felt flat is lack of meaningful choices, moments and interactions. Frank Stone literally dies in the demo. Majority of his Prescence in the game is in the background.
A lot of people think it would be "cool", "satisfying", an "easy win" i say it would be pushing it too hard.-1 -
dont take this the wrong way but it sounds to me like you havent played the game. Even if you detatch it all it just feels weird for them to create this whole store driven game with survivors/killer/map and then just throw it away? It just seems like a waste to me and in the end it would be a original chapter so it would be purchasable via iridecent shards wich would dampen the impact if its own spinoffs launch

To be honest, if survivors are expecting Frank Stone to have camera counterplay, then I hope he's never made a killer. It will just be like Alien 2.0, where the counter items feel so awful for the killer, that the killer isn't worth playing.
Survivors getting killer counterplay items are NEVER fun or interactive for the killer. It's always just 100% for the benefit for survivors, and 100% headaches for the killer.
-1 -
even without this its UNACCEPTABLE for frank stone to be thrown away and become a skin for 1 of the weakest killers ingame

Would you rather he was a skin for Knight, or an alternate guard for the Knight?
Like, what else could BHVR do with Frank Stone, that doesn't involve making him into a separate killer, that would make sense in DBD?
-1 -
thats the thing he doesnt fit any of the existing roster hence why he should be his own chapter
1 -
He pretty much did zero exciting things the entire video game, that would translate to a good DBD killer chase power.
If anything, we can blame the video game for not giving Frank Stone a dash, or a projectile, or anything at all that works as a decent chase power.

they did tho? with the whole spiritual form with the cameras to hold him back.
0 -
That’s not a chase power. You’re basically saying the killer is defined as having a strong counter play item. How is that fun for the person playing Frank Stone?
What is Frank Stone himself supposed to do, that is fun for the person playing Frank Stone?
0 -
he could work similar to a mix of spirit and wraith
0 -
If he will just be a remix of other characters, then why wouldn't I just play those characters instead, since they don’t have survivor counterplay items?
Survivor counterplay items are miserable for the killer, unless they are super weak like Wesker’s vaccine, and don’t actually affect the killer itself. But I’m sure people are imagining that survivors will be able to “fight back” the killer with Frank’s cameras, since that is what happened in the game.

I played the game, i pre-ordered the deluxe edition
I don't think there's anything weird about it, Frank Stone was a project of expanding dbd and it was a commercial failure. I don't think the game was ever made with the ultimate purpose of adding those characters to dbd. It would have been a good opportunity if that game was recieved positively but it wasn't.0 -
exactly my thoughts. If they prove they can't be trusted with their own lore, then I won't bother with their lore

and its such a shame… sure it mightve sold badly but why not recoup your losses and get it in the main game.. they already have EVERYTHING they need
0 -
the whole game he has abilities different from trapper and he even has weaknesses that are common to killer powers in dbd, like the survivors having items to stop him from going full berzerk on them… The new killer was there, i was awaiting for it… and behaviour broke my heart

yeah, literally everything. There's a map, multiple survivors (personally I think Linda and Madi make the most sense), and frank stone himself, with frank stone having stuff to work with for a power, an already existing model, weapon, terror radius/chase music, menu music, and a mori. The character was basically complete at that point, they'd just have to make the power and design some perks
