RIP DBD?
No need to explain how horrifically bad the new patch has been for survivor, but I really think this could be the start of a very bad series of events for dbd.
Survivors are already getting fed up with the new changes and are either just taking breaks or switching to killer. Killer queues are longer than they've been since I've started playing dbd in late 2019. Obviously the fnaf chapter has a part in this but with an influx of survivors switching to killer until they make the survivor experience more enjoyable the killer queues are going to be inflated more.
It really seems that unless the devs do something major that dbd is headed straight on a collision course to become a dead game. If there's no survivors to face, then killers are going to be SOL. Hope the QoL phase two contains more quality than what's been released so far.

Killer queues are longer than usual for more than one reason, and people simply dropping the survivor role is hardly a significant one.
- A killer released, but not a survivor, so people are trying out the new killer.
- This chapter just made the game peak in player number, so there are more people playing than ever and many of these new players are here to try out the new killer, which means there are more killers than usual but not that many more survivors than usual.
- This is the first time a separate queue gets added to play only on the new map. That by default splits the playerbase in two and makes queues take at least twice as long.
Give it a few weeks and the queue will go back to normal.

I know we have seen lots of these doom posts in the past, but this is the first time I have agreed. Survivor really does feel like it's over. I lasted 45 minutes last night on dbd. I used to play for 4-5 hours. :(

A new killer that people have been begging for for over half the game's lifespan JUST came out. Of course people are playing killer lmfao

I also start to wonder that with all their data and experience they do strange things every normal player tells them this will cause problems.
No - comes anyway and oh wonder - causes problems.
I really hate the fixing of stuff that was completely fine to something which is clearly worse - nope, they do it anyway.
The competitors will never kill DbD i guess - but maybe they manage it on their own.
Still hope they revert things when the next player survey will be bad. (… and i bet it will be)

They did make a bad call releasing all this other stuff alongside FNAF. It absolutely won't kill the game, but i think it will definitely impact the number of new players who stick around. And it may have been the last straw for some long-time players who've had a foot out the door for awhile anyway. The game will keep chugging along.

yea the update with the most players in the games 9 year history means the game is dying or going to be dead soon. It has issues but it has already been addressed.

Not saying it is dying nor do i want it to - i like the game.
But with the highest player count it may highlight the problems which were there for a long time. Lets see how many of them will stay for longer in DbD.
In my opinion the biggest players are veterans who knew better times when they started and just kept playing.
I don´t really want to imagine a new player who starts today. The first game experience can be really bad and the grind is horrendous.
And a lot of the recent changes don´t help with that in any way. Thats all.

Go ahead and switch to killer, guys. You’ll find that it’s probably easy at first, but when you start regularly facing survivors who know what they’re doing, you’ll probably be back here complaining about survivors being OP.
There are definitely legitimate issues on the survivor side right now that make it unfun to play, but those are entirely self-inflicted mistakes by BHVR because they didn’t properly test things or get player input before going live. When those mistakes hopefully get fixed, I think the game will be fine for both sides.
Before this chapter, the kill/escape rates were right where they should be. Lots of people were complaining about survivor even before these recent changes. If you were complaining, you were either 1) escaping at 40% rate or higher, in which case the problem is your expectations, not game balance; or 2) escaping less than the 40% average rate, in which case the problem is your own skill, not game balance.-14 -
I do play Killer and maintain a near 50% kill rate on my mains, which is lower than the expected average and yet I'm still having a much better time playing Killer than I am Survivor. I've had my fair share of difficult matches, when it feels like there's not much you can do except scrape by with a 1K (or maybe even a draw). But I think the difference is that as Killer, you always feel like you have at least some agency. You can set the vibe and decide how you want to play. But on the Survivor side, we've just had a patch that's stripped away Survivor agency in a really heavy handed way. Sure, some players abused the system to avoid playing against Killers that they didn't like, and I do get that something needed to be done about it. But I don't think taking away all Survivor agency (especially in desperate situations) is really the way to go. All it will do is make those hopeless feeling games feel ever worse to play through.
So far, it doesn't even seem to have worked. I still get players that want to go next, like a Nea I had earlier who didn't want to play against a Legion on Hawkins and did nothing but stand under a hook. I finished the game as quickly as I could, but I'd waited close to 10 minutes to get into that match.
At other times I've seen soft examples of "going next", like a Dwight who went AFK under a hook late in a match on Dead Dawg (probably because he knew they would never break an easy to defend 3 gen against a Billy) and a Sable that stopped really trying very hard once her Mikaela duo buddy had been sacrificed. If these players could have had the option to DC or let go on hook, it would not have changed the outcome of the match, but they would at least have been happier to move onto their next game. BHVR need to remember that it's got to be fun to lose as Survivor (or if it isn't fun, at least not to be a source of frustration).
If BHVR chooses to keep their go next system, I hope they make refinements that still allow for self unhooking or letting go in dire situations. I also think they should rethink such a harsh DC penalty system. Because the current implementation ain't it.
All that said, I don't think any of these changes will really hurt the game for player numbers. Older players might leave (or play less Survivor games like I will be), but the game's just had a huge injection of newer players who won't have experienced anything different. The long Killer waits are more to do with the split queues, a very popular Killer release and no attraction for newer players to try out the Survivor role just yet.

That's the thing, I made sure to take a break before fnaf came out specifically to avoid being burnt out when it came. And with the amount of other people sharing the same opinion clearly there's something wrong with the game itself and isn't a personal issue.

Obviously people are going to be playing him but the main thing I'm saying is survs that are sick of the current state of survivor are going to either A. Take a break and stop playing, or B. Switch to killer, making the already long queues longer. Either way that isn't healthy for the game. Arguably the worst patch since the release of Twins and that set a pretty high bar for bugs/general ######### additions

Been playing almost exclusively survivor since the new update… it's genuinely not bad. I will die on the hill that it's diehard survivor players who got used to the game having horrific balance towards survivors (old DS, old dead hard, medkits that self heal in 8 seconds with 3 uses out of them, horrific map design filled with nothing but strong tiles), so once more and more of that stuff goes away… they confuse the game becoming more inline as "the game is killer sided".
Does that mean it's perfect? Absolutely not. Survivor has things that could be improved for the experience, and same with killer. Are there bugs currently? Yes. But people aren't just talking about bugs, they end up talking about the "survivor experience" as a whole in terms of the main gameplay.
But I'm sorry if we're talking splits here on what caused the killer queues.
I'm taking like 95% / 5%, being new chapter / survivor frustrations. It's a chapter with only a killer, no survivor and it's a killer that is quite literally the most requested killer in dbd history for the past like… 6-7 years. Not only that in terms of FNAF itself, it's pretty much the first time (iirc) where you not only see springtrap in all his glory and not as some thing that just jumpscares you every once and a while, PLUS you get to straight up play as him. Everyone and their mother should've seen these killer queues coming.

That 5% is gonna be a growing number until a patch comes. Overall, survivor is definitely a more fun experience than it was years ago, but it mainly worries me that it seems these QoL changes seem to only be targeting survivors. To me it would've made more sense to have a mix of changes that target survivors and killers instead of just one side of the player base

I'm torn. Asymmetrical horror games as a genre are always doomed to fail because they just don't work. DBD has avoided that fate for nearly a decade because it adopted the same formula Fortnite uses, which is to get as many IPs under its belt as possible. However, BHVR's track record is far from glowing. They've proven time and time again that they don't know how to balance or maintain live service games and DBD is no exception. But any time they've tanked, all they've had to do is pull a big license.

Eh. DBD has a very devoted fanbase, especially amongst survivors. A lot of survivor players ONLY play survivor, and ONLY play DBD. Until/unless there is actual competition from a competent dev team that can recreate DBD with better mechanics and licenses, DBD will never truly die.

I used to think that, but better games have come and gone. DBD's greatest rival (hehe) these days is Marvel Rivals, which isn't in the genre at all. Even if DBD lost its most dedicated fanbase, they'd still be able to recover by pulling more licenses. And if those failed, they could lean more into anime and be set indefinitely in whale territory. And God forbid if that failed, they could sell the IP to Epic and let it go (although I don't foresee them doing that with the larger backers DBD has).

I think an important distinction to make is at what point does DBD die as an experience versus at what point does it die as a money generator. It could stay afloat indefinitely even if the experience is lost.

If the experience was bad it would lose players, like it already did in the past after really bad patches and killer releases, yet this didn't happen, in fact its the entire opposite.
Also no, it can't stay afloat if the experience is lost, because it's what retains players and make them spend money.

The QoL changes of this patch were targeting survivors, they were designed to stop people going next. But you're forgetting that soon there will be new, anti-tunnel, anti-camp and anti-slug changes coming. Its a year long initiative of QoL changes, this one was targeted at survivors, soon enough killers will be in your exact spot. This is just you falling into tribalism, plain and simple.

DBD has been "dying" since like 2018 lmao.
Honestly we used to have these types of threads MUCH more often so the fact there's a lot less these days probably indicates things are actually better than they used to be.
Also this patch has massive issues for sure but the first RE chapter was probably worse considering like half the player base just couldn't play the game lol.

I feel like there needs to be more in game communication for solo queue, its the leading cause of frustration for me at least as a survivor and why my friggin escaperate is less than 50%, and thats coming from someone with over 11,000 hours and competitive tourney wins and experience.
This patch doesn't really impact survivor much, other than the removal of going next on hook (emphasis on survivor impact), theres nothing too exciting about survivor when only a killer gets added, and no new health initiatives that make survivor better against certain unfun strategies, which some as previously discussed in other threads are necessary for alot of killers to win.
We gotta remember the games an asymmetrical horror game, its not suppose to be mega balanced and it never will be with certain people's enjoyment of obviously busted or weak aspects of the game like nurse for example. Alot want her nerfed/reworked, but it'll also make her playerbase which is pretty big as shes one of the oldest killers in the game, upset that the character they enjoyed for so long is getting changed against their favor.
Its impossible to please every player i guess is what im saying, and that'll never change as it doesn't with any other game. No game is perfect, no single person is perfect. We all have our motives, but in the end we all play dbd to have fun in our own unqiue playstyles and preferences.
Hopefully the MMR update as mentioned in the QOL changes will finally fix the queue system so you're actually getting paired with people who are even slightly competent, otherwise the lack of interest in survivor is gonna bring the game down considerably.

I kind of agree. If the anti-tunnel/camp/slug changes are as big as the anti-quit, then it'll be an interesting year for DBD.

Even after a string of bad chapters, a big license will turn it around. That was the case with Wesker. I think as long as they can manage to do that, the game could become anything and still have new players cycle in and out. That's why I think it's valid to say that the game has shifted to an unenjoyable state, where it feels like it's on life support, even if the steam charts never reflect that.

Honestly, this.
I think I've finally hit a breakthrough where I've finally learned some game sense. It also helps that I swapped from C tier killers to A tier ones, put on some shaders, and fixed my audio.

It really isn't as bad as people are claiming. All these Survivor mains coming out of the wood work, because their precious Map Offerings have been nerfed into the ground and their Spawn Locations are fixed now. Go play some Civilization. I hear that's a good game.

No, I don't think DBD is going to die anytime soon.
Now, I do think the overall experience of playing DBD is worse these days if compared to the past, but I wouldn't say the game is dying.

Still to me feels like they should've had a mix of changes vs targeting one side in one patch and waiting to address the issues the other side has. Maybe it's the bugs in addition to these changes that has me questioning the state of survivor. The main thing I know is that since this chapter survivor has just felt really bad to play as and I hope that things get better sooner rather than later especially with the final masquerade event coming.

Honestly, I think the only thing worse now is the visual style of DBD, but the rest is better by far. The only old thing that should be brought back as it was a pretty good idea, is old Freddy. <3

Guess the game died with each new chapter because queue times increased. For someone that started in 2019 this isn't the first time you experienced long killer or survivor queue times.

Well, my dear friend, while I obviously do agree on the visuals and, especially, Old Freddy my beloved (the reason why I am even a Forum member in the first place), I also think map balancing is worse and should be looked at.
If not every single map that has a previous version we can compare them to, then at least the main offenders, such as the Coldwind Farm realm.

Ngl I have to agree with Map design. Maps are probably the BIGGEST issue of current DBD, but since visuals are what makes the game stand out that's usually what I go to first.

"Free weekend" That didn't bring in more players than the update on Tuesday, the game is sitting at sub 70k on steam on a Sunday night after what has been touted as the "most anticipated chapter" ever. The player numbers are still actively going further and further now and the numbers prove that. 9.0.0 directly nerfing survivors while gamebreaking bugs stay in the game for over a week, remember you need 4 survivors compared to 1 killer, no one wants to play survivor. No one wants to load into a game to play as a punching bag.

Fair enough, my friend, I do believe the visuals are extremely important and should be looked at. If we could have improvements for the game's atmosphere together with a patch that adjusts the maps it would be fantastic.

I don’t doubt that it is for you, but that’s not what the stats say for the average killer player. The average kills ratios show that average killer players are getting 2-3 kills, with 2 kills being more common than 3. I wouldn’t call that “pretty easy”. Average killer players still need to work hard to wins. I know that’s a foreign concept to all the survivor-only players who think that playing killer is a cakewalk.

They are almost 100% getting two Kills every game. This isn't accounting for DC's or Hatch Escapes (which don't count towards MMR and therefore should be discarded, imo)
The average Killer is killing 2-3 players a match, one escapes through Hatch.
