Feedback on Quests (9.1.0)

So, Quests got an update this patch…

And it mostly doubled down on the fomo tactics.

But, before I tell you the cons, I will first talk about the good stuff:

  • The "Into The Fog" quests are amazing for newbies. I'm glad the devs decided to expand the tutorial like this.
  • I'm glad that now there are enough Daily Quests to at least fill up a single tier.
  • They improved the iri shard gains from Rift Pass Quests, which is awesome.
  • The newbie quests also act as a nice bonus for longer-time players, with nice iri shard rewards.

And, that is it. Unfortunately, there is a lot of bad stuff here:

  • The Milestone Quests were made much grindier? (at least it seems like it) AND less rewarding in a single swoop. This combined with the added extra daily further taps into the FOMO tactics we have been flaming them for since the quests got added. Why did you double down on a controversial tactic? (SOLUTION: Revert the rewards for milestone Quests, keep the difficulty increase if you must, but it'd be better to reduce the difficulty a bit too, since some of these are really overwhelming.)
  • The system is still named as generically as possible. (SOLUTION: Rename them to Rituals, pretty please.)
  • The Rift Pass Quests are still kind of generic. (SOLUTION: Add a weekly Master Quest/Ritual, that would further lean into the old Tome challenges. Things like killer specific Quests, Glyphs, Memory Fragments, ect.)
  • And a small nitpick, the numbers on Quest reward are a little bit too small. You have to squint to see them properly. (SOLUTION: Make them larger.)
  • Also, the passive Rift progress is really slow. You can barely see it do anything.

Yeah, nerfing milestones feels really bad and I don't understand why. It is also a bit sad that there are not more milestone quests since they are easy to get done.

What I wish are a lot of character specific quests - not just play Knight/Elodie/Hag and do this but also doing something specific and using their perks in some way. It feels a bit sad that the characters are just featured in the Rift but not in the quests. I also miss the green Glyphs for their big BP bonus :(

Quest system is a bit generic but I guess that's what happens when every other big game uses the same shema

I also miss Glyphs so much :(

Mainly the white ones, those gave you such a great bonus.

The new quests are just boring. I don't get why they made a big deal about them being done in the background and not needing to check. It just makes them feel pointless. Every game I'm showered with BP, shards and rift fragments. Why? I guess I did something in the game. No need to check, it's automatic.

I also miss the character-specific challenges. This was how I ended up playing Deathslinger and Knight, two of my now-favourite killers.

    We need more quests like:

    • Play as a specific killer or survivor
    • Use killer power successfully x times (eg. trap x numer of survivors, get x number of chainsaw downs, etc…)
    • Use a specific perk in game (like actually activate it, not just take it and don't use it)
    • Use a specific item as survivor

Really anything more interesting than just stuff you'll do in-game anyway (eg. do gens, unhook people, injure people, etc.)

I will say the tutorial quests are a great idea and I've actually been having fun doing them even as a non-noob simply because there are a couple of character-specific ones in there.

Yeah, some character-specific or perk-specific things would be nice.

Are they back? I heard that the BP bonus from white glyphs got removed

Without meaning it negative, do you really think the battle pass will be much harder to complete? The last time around I was finished with the rift one month before it ended. I think it will probably the same thing now.

I agree that there was no need to make it grindier and for the theme of the game it would make sense to change the name of quest to rituals.

The Rift Pass Quests are still kind of generic. (SOLUTION: Add a weekly Master Quest/Ritual, that would further lean into the old Tome challenges. Things like killer specific Quests, Glyphs, Memory Fragments, ect.)

I really dislike these play a certain character quests, also in other games. There is nothing fun about having to play a character that you despise playing and in dbd’s case there are a lot of killers that cost money to get, which makes it kinda frustrating if you can’t even do that quest. The other things I agree with.

Well, if I counted correctly, the new rift relies on you doing all the milestones and rift quests AND doing all of the daily quests for at least 30 days to get to tier 100. This is also with the passive mechanic and weekly gifts in mind.

So yeah, it now relies on events and daily quests even more.

As for the character-specific challenges, I'm not that much of a fan either, especially if it forces me to play Blight for instance. I'd much rather go around finding Glyphs tbh :)

    Not sure.

I know I got the bonus from a white glyph some time ago, but can't tell how long ago it was.

Also, Glyphs in general were removed, so there's that.

really all they needed to do was to make every available challenge in every tome active at the same time (you would still progress left to right and claim as normal, just have them automatically selected and progressed), idk why they went with such a flavorless alternative when there was really only one meaningful complaint about the tome challenges. this wouldve been a lot lot better for new players too, they would be constantly showered with bp and things to do/unlock rather than being dripfed quests per week

Returning to this, since it pretty much still proves ro be true.

Milestones are unrewarding, daily rituals are required, passive rift fragment gain helps no one.

I still stand by all of the things suggested in this post, with one added thing, which I put in with the edit.

In three weeks(?), we will get the new Rift and I hope with this new one, the devs will make the Rift a bit more faster by buffing the Milestone riftfragment rewards and maybe give us more weekly quests (increasing to eight or even ten). It would also be cool if the BP reward for Milestones would be a bit more to be - as you already said - less unrewarding. The Halloween and 2v8 event will also happen during the next rift and I hope they will more quests to get the rift done.

A bit off topic but I also miss the rift fragment and Blood Rush/Hunt weeks we had nearly every month since they also made the grind a bit easier. It is an awkward direction the developer go: On the one hand, they try to reduce the grind but then add new grinds or reduce the wrong one (best example the reduced cake spawns during the anniversary event).

I really appreciate the new Rift with their colour variants (more cosmetics for free) and the cosmetics, banners, badges, charms, and more become better and better but the grind becomes worse. I know it is bad when players can get the rift done in five weeks but it is also bad when you get the rift barely done even when you play more than the average.
