i mean if there was an effective fix for it released within the month then that'd prove their apathy instead of their incompetence. whole situation is damning either way.

It’s not only addiction that keeps the game going. But also only because there’s nothing like Dbd. Others have tired and failed. But anyway I will say they still need to step up cause the whole situation is ridiculous.

Had a sick kid to take care of so I skipped this stream. Sounds like I didnt miss much. Really unfortunate for Chandler, but on the plus side i imagine they'll be finally be cracking down on hackers (one can hope!)

Maybe this time we will get a DDoS Charm to commemorate the occasion as a thank you.

Please don't say that, you're putting the energy out there

Imagine a bugged charm that crashed people's games if someone equipped it

Considering what most of his balance-related takes/suggestions are, it's probably for the best.

Same. Can’t help feeling like my recent uninstall was the correct decision at the moment.

Jeez I didn't really see the stream but knew of it but really it was that bad? Like I know no game is safe from hacking and all that but a lot of games still try to make something where it's less frequent. But BHVR's response to this will probably be.

"We're gonna look into it. Oh also here's a few nerfs that weren't really needed. A really overpowered buff and oh a few outfits."

If I had to quote my opinion on the game now(even though I still play it because of the money I spent.)

"You know when I was a kid, I used to think you were cool."

    DBDGoneWild eh? 🤔

Sure has been a rough year so far, got the most hated killer in the game so far, drasticly reduced the event cakes for the first time since the prestige to 100 change, and now the buggiest, biggest update theyve ever added, with the first time theyve ever chosen the worst voice actors to immitate licensed characters (screams) to a point where people were reporting it as a bug, first PTB to simply say "sorry you can't play the new character", pr disasters left n right over killswitching gamebreaking bugged perk, proof the devs don't test the game themselves before releasing updates with the new dbd mascot Jim the Beam, and now livestreamed proof of how vulnerable their game is to hackers while also ignoring suggestions in real time on how to fix problems with the game. What is going on over there? Lol

Can only hope we've reached the bottom of the hill and can only go back up. Otherwise i can't imagine whats next.

I really feel like the chapter, bugs, and the stream were so disastrous to the point nothing will help even if they release more outfits or changes, unless they acknowledge their mistakes and actually try to improve the connection with themselves and the community, especially to their most loyal players and streamers. Because they had such an amazing opportunity recently with the Walking Dead Chapter, to make it amazing, and to have CHANDLER RIGGS play DEAD BY DAYLIGHT, like that's something you can't mess up, but the chapter was horribly rushed, and they have shown how disrespectful, out of touch they are, and pretty much humiliated themselves on stream, it's like they don't even care.

This is something they can't run away from by brushing it aside with cosmetics or changes, this is destroying their reputation all together, starting with the lack of using any feedback to make changes from the PTB, then the perk bugs, and the terrible stream, which was the cherry on top. They HAVE to do better!

I could go on a tirade about DDOSing and even cheating in general in DBD right now, but seriously, why is this possible? This is a problem in normal matches too, by the way. I've had several matches just drop the moment I'm about to win and my internet is always completely stable, never ever happens when I'm losing. And streamers sometimes experience the same thing. It's pretty glaringly obvious that any player in a match can crash the server and make it "not count". Pretty sure they can crash any specific players connection as well instead of crashing the whole match, but I'm not quite sure about that one.

Hopefully something is done about this after this stream.

Honestly i am really hoping they come out with an apology. I feel deterred from playing right now because i feel so negative about the state of the game. I noticed they deleted the VODs of the stream, which i think is better than nothing but i still want more.

havent they had enough staff mebers to fill the spectator slots? i mean yeah otz mods where there but you know how it end (maybe a legal issue or something i dunno) but the should have someone in the back to fill spectator slots or not?

  • OrangeBear
    OrangeBear Member Posts: 3,512

Probably not enough staff members there. They were unprepared and were unfamiliar with what was going on.

while that's true, in this scenario it can easily be avoided by filling the spectator slots so there is no free spaces for any DDOSers to join the lobby as OhTofu did in his tourney. Otz even told them multiple times yet they just did not listen and shot themseves in the foot out of stubbornness

Appreciate the apology, but the core issue wasn’t the livestream… it was that a 2017 PvP title can still be taken down this easily in 2025. Without concrete protection measures, the next event will end the same way, just with different names in the lobby.

if I were truly sorry I'd leave the vod up to keep myself humble.

Can someone help me understand how it got DDoS'd? Did a person on the friendlist slip in? Or anyone can spectate? I just don't understand how the hacker got in.

From what I've come to understand, someone figured out an exploit with spectator slots and used that to crash the server. The exploiters found the server somehow and yeah.

That's the short version, it's probably more complex than that but that's how Otz's solution 'fixes' it since if all spectator slots are full, the exploit cannot be done.

  • OrangeBear
    OrangeBear Member Posts: 3,512

They just can if there's an open slot. Unfortunately when they recently added 4 more spectator slots, these slots are usable by cheaters to quickly join, obtain the IP of the server, and DDOS it. That's why filling up the slots prevents them from being able to do that. Idk how the cheaters got in though they just breached it i guess

I laughed so hard. So great to finally see things crumble and burn when you knew it was being held together by sticks and gum. I still think they'll be living in their own make believe land of, "everything is just fine". If they actually prioritized fixing the game itself instead of constantly adding new things to it with no end in sight, this type of stuff wouldn't happen. Seeing disasters like this happen to complacent companies will NEVER get old. xD

This issue clearly showed how BHVR listens to creators.

I think if devs added the option to turn off spectator slots that would help wouldn't it?

It's a perfect reflection of how dbd listens to its community. They ignore every problem and every solution and maybe attempt to solve it years later.

It feels like there's this sense of entitlement that's come from the devs as of late, like just because the community is toxic they have this special right to ignore wider sentiments or game breaking bugs.

"Nobody should know about the Killswitch, let's kick the spectators Otz brings on because they aren't team BHVR, there are currently way worse bugs than Streetwise, etc." What have you all, as developers and team managers and as a company as a whole, genuinely made that makes you thinking acting in this manner is acceptable?

Cause here's the thing, DBD is it. If this game goes under, if this player base does give up the goose, if some big controversy does hit the servers that causes major licence holders to lit out, BHVR is cooked and at this point I think everyone knows that. So why stoke the fire? Why poke the bear? You aren't some massive monolithic company like Nintendo that can handle making decisions broadly unpopular to average consumer. If people lose interest in new chapters, then put up the chairs and remember to turn the lights off before you go.

Walking Dead and FNAF were W's basically handed to the devs on a silver platter, the fact that this has turned into one of the sadder sets of releases is infuriating for what seemed like the game's finest hour.

From what I've been hearing about this chapter and recent events… I'm simply disappointed.
