Tunnelling every game since DBD deemed it not a problem.

I used to not have a ton of hard tunneling in my matches. There's been an uptick recently, but I also feel like it's been steadily getting worse for some months now.
My killer matches are also bad with BMing but the survivor ones have been exceptionally bad. I have no idea if the fate of the patch has anything to do with it, but don't think I've ever been humped or hit on hook so much before.

But how to change it without punishment for the killer is the hard part
You can't. The penalty for tunneling is the only thing that will ever make this work, and there must be a downside for hard tunneling someone out.
The devs have tried for 3 years to do this now and it doesn't. Ever. Work.
Nearly every patch since 6.1 had been a cycle of:
- Killers "claim" that "they only tunnel because of X existing.
- BHVR addresses X.
- Goal post shifts and now Y is "the reason killers tunnel.
This has happened so often that you can already see the patch notes being written by the loudest voices complaining. Here are just a few examples, off the top of my head:
Dead hard, gen speeds, circle of healing, prove thyself, BNP, medkits, dead hard again, MFT, maps (specifically garden, eyrie, corn maps/cowshed, haddonfield, and more), "chases too long" (loops replaced with dead zones, pallets were weakened across the board, bloodlust buffs), and my personal favorite "I can't find anyone" resulting in distortion being deleted.
And any time there wasn't a specific target, people blamed gen speeds.
The only reason the anti tunneling changes were even slightly going to be effective is the "disabling regression and blocking" feature, which is also the main reason people were losing their minds.
There has to be a downside, and it has to be an effective, and noticeable difference, or the system won't work at all.

Honestly I think the worst part about this thread is the sheer lack of empathy. Someone is venting about a very real problem that is happening right now for survivors (I've also noticed an increase in tunnelling and slugging since the announcement of the PTB), and literally all anyone in here is saying amounts to mocking them, and survivors in general.
THIS is exactly the problem, more than anything. A total lack of any attempt to understand or empathise with the other side. An unwillingness to accept that maybe, the issues that the 'other' side are bringing up are actually real problems that might need to be addressed.

I'm voting with my feet.
Just logged in for a solo queue match, got a ghoul. He hard tunneled out the first survivor found. Then the second. Then he slugged me for the 4k. The first unhook, I threw myself between the claudette and Ghoul and he would not chase me. Just went around me to get the the tunnel down.
I agree punishment for the behavior is the only option. Tunnelling needs to be deleted from the game. It is far too effective and simple. It nearly removes the hunt and chase parts of the killer game play. They just need to get that first hook. If that happens quickly the killer wins. It isn't fun for the tunneled or the other survivors now doomed to lose.
I'm not even sure why BHVR struggles so hard with this. Make decisive strike 5 seconds as it was for years. Give the unhooked a haste buff until someone else is hooked. Then put the antislug from PTB in. Maybe that wouldn't be perfect but it would be a good start.
Ever since patch 6.1, BHVR has systematically weakened every tool survivors have. This was done to shake up the meta. The problem was the meta was what it was to overcome the behavior of killers. It had little to do with the strategy of the game. Decisive, Unbreakable, Dead Hard were needed to last long enough against a killer that chose to tunnel. If the killer didn't tunnel or slug, those builds lost most of their utility.
It's like every problem the game currently faces stems from those choices. Survivors now don't take decisive, so they take a perk to speed gens or speed healing so they can get back to gens. Now gens feel faster then ever.
Until this situation is improved I'm out. Good luck.

Yep. I do hope they bring the "play while you wait" feature into the normal queue, so that Killers can play Survivor while they wait in their long queues and experience things from the Survivors' side for a change.

"in some form or another", you're accusing people of being unable to comprehend the situation (as if you would comprehend it), and IN THE SAME SENTENCE you're weakening that whole statement with a "in some form or another" (you simply don't know what's coming, just be honest).
The fact is, the changes proposed by BHVR on the PTB are not arriving as presented. That is final, and no "Deboonker" can change it. Whatever BHVR is cooking up is completely unknown, number tweaks, removal of mechanics. Nobody knows, and that includes you. So please, don't be that Deboonker.

Yep - it’s the usual “us vs them” agitators that are hiding behind the downvote system and anonymously lobbing bombs rather than replying to defend their positions.

tunneling with an endgame build is literally the easiest way to win atm, it sucks to play against and i wouldn't play like that either.
tunnel out 1-2 survivors before endgame collapse and the rest of your build is gonna cook the survivors really hard, especially if u tunnel out the obsession as priority to build stacks with Remember Me.
only time tunneling can backfire tbh is if its a strong SWF but at that point any strategy is gonna be tough, but its all about effort = reward.
having high reward for doing things that are easy is unfair, the reason why people hate ghoul is that very reason free hit + deep wounds (seriously why do you even get deep wounds?).
Next patch when Hope is getting nerfed it's gonna be waaay worse, I've said it before buffing endgame for killers is unintentionally buffing tunneling.

They could have implemented it with small number tweaks. Drop the hook requirement to 4, drop the boost to 15%. Disable the killer haste and non-tunnel kick bonus, but keep the basekit bbq things and just implement the anti-slug as is.
Just for 3 months, while they revamp the system to be better. It would just make the game so much more fun to actually play.
Right now? I am actually intending to quit untill they drop the update. I might play a bit once the update releases depending on what changes they do implement. If they keep on some of the perk changes, especially the DMS nerf, then maybe. But overall? Quitting till they add in the anti-slug and anti-tunnel updates. Its too much to not add in any of the changes. All of them at once? Sure, I can get behind that being too much, but cancelling all of them?1 -
What? Take responsibility for my own gameplay? Nah. BHVR should just make the game punish killers for noticing that I am terrible at the game so I don't have to get better.

Any killer that still BMs like that should be reported, as there is no longer any need to wait (not that BMing like that was okay before, it's gross and it isn't necessary) If all survivors are on the hook and the last is on the ground, the Finisher Mori is enabled. Its been that way for a patch or two now.

I mean what do you expect OP? BHVR caters to Killers and SWF, they don't care about the overall Surv experience that anyone who plays SoloQ and even in a 2 man SWF, often deals with. I'd love to see a Devs stream themselves playing 10 random games of SoloQ in the pubs back to back, but they won't because we'd end up seeing them rage quit from their own game lol

Yes, that's a good observation. I do agree that it can come in waves. It's part of the reason I don't agree with the idea that if all regression was buffed across the board, and if gens were extended, then people would stop tunneling because the only reason they do is because gens are too fast. I simply cannot believe that because the history of the game has proven otherwise. The COB era was a good exmaple of this, and my favorite example is the first 2v8 and how many players slugged despite there being no reason to. The majority of players will always take advantage and go for the path of least resistance, regardless of the gaming genre. I mean heck, there's entire youtube channels dedicating to cheesing levels, finding glitches, exploits, etc. in games from Zelda to Destiny. Gamers have been taking shortcuts for decades and that's not going to change in DBD if gens are made longer.
But yes, I do agree with you. It seems like currently tunneling/slugging has had an uptic after the almost-changes, almost like some kind of punishment. Another example of it ebbing and flowing I suppose.

Great write-up. Very observant of the pattern in the balancing trajectory and hits the nail right on the head. Part of the reason thinking about these changes as a whole pisses me off. I don't blame anyone for doing the same. Best of luck my dude.

I've been saying it for years, but endgame has been cooked for Survivor and only gets worse over time. Not only is tunneling viable at the start of the trial when Survivors are at their strongest, it's buffed at the end of the trial when they're at their weakest.

Keep huffing that copium, as either way it is coming in 'some form or another' and I meant that as that is what I said.
I don't think some content creators do understand this is a temporary reprieve, not an open season to return to resorting to tunnelling at 5 gens for easy wins in perpetuity.
Any changes have to be somewhat extreme, otherwise they don't provide any disincentive and no amount of getting angry or rage posting at me will change that. I don't care much personally, I don't tunnel anyway so meh, I will only get rewarded when I play killer

I don't know if the hell that is soloq really needs killer mains throwing matches because they're just killing time and getting BP between the ones they actually care about.

Either way, they'll be going against the same crap that Survivors go through. They'll see if they can take what they dish out. I wish I could see if they enjoy being tunneled and slugged as much as Survivors do.
All the times Killers say "just learn to loop" whenever Survivors complain about tunneling, I have to resist the urge to go, "Let's see YOU loop the Killer. Show us how 'easy' it is to counter tunneling." Because I'm betting that they can't.

I wish I would be getting tunneled every match. More fun than doing gens.
-1 -
No secret that they favor only killers, for now I play other games since DBD is back on stale state after 2v8 (where I played non stop 3 weeks😍)
-1 -
the anti tunnel should’ve went live with 0 changes.
4 -
- the real problem is accepting "hard tunneling" because "weak killers exist!", when in fact the majority of tunneling is done by killers like Nurse, Kaneki, Blight, Oni... in short, we don't eliminate tunneling to "protect" weak killers, but tunneling actually makes already very strong killers even stronger🤣 today I had a game with nurse in haddonfield with "hard tunneling"....exactly what should the survivors do other than hope for hatch?🤣
