What's The Point Of Playing Survivor?
Every patch Survivors receive nerfs, Killers get buffed, and every time something that actually aid Survivors even a little is added to the PTB Killer mains complain and get it nerfed or removed. Almost every new Killer is beyond broken, with Springtrap probably being one of the few exceptions in terms of semi-balanced Killers. They buff Killers who don't need it and constantly punish Survivors for simply wanting to play the game.
The biggest bias? Survivors don't like tunneling, slugging or camping? Too bad. But oh, Killers don't like gen rushing? Buff and add more and more gen regression perks.
So what's even the point of playing Survivor anymore? BHVR clearly doesn't want the role to be played, so why bother?

there isnt. Swap to killer. I was a killer main for probably 3k hours of my play time. got bored of killer earlier this year and swapped. I went back to killer after this update its been so bad. But im still bored of killer so im not even really playing at this point. Gonna do some silent hill F tomorrow and todayβ¦idk I have a project due for a college elective in like two weeks so maybe ill just work on that.
Crazy when devs fumble so hard people would rather do a hella boring project than play ur game.

to make killer players feel good about themselves while they make everyone else feel miserable.
15 -
They scrapped anti slug and tunnel as well. Clearly they favor killers. Why even hook when you can down 4 survivors and bypass 8 hook states? The crybabies got there way and now solo q remains almost unplayable. If this keeps on we're going to have to start talking survivor buffs to keep up with the killers because as is its pretty unfair even for skilled players (p100s)
8 -
It goes back and forth. Some patches favor survivors, some favor killers. Killers have had the advantage for a little while. For a long while before that Survivors did. The state of this game changes like the weather.
-6 -
The game is entirely designed for 4 man parties at this point. If you're playing solo queue, the game is not actually for you.

"Crazy when devs fumble so hard people would rather do a hella boring project than play ur game"
This made me laugh because I'm literally about to go and spring clean my kid's wardrobes even though I have quests to catch up on in DBD. I'm literally more motivated to clean than play DBD. And i only play killer too lol I'm thinking we have burn out
16 -
I've got some shelving to paint and install in my closets. Maybe now's the time.
15 -
That's literally what the last few years have been about. Making killer so easy that anyone can pick it up and get instant gratification. It doesn't even matter if you're terrible at the game. This is best evidenced by the Ghoul and The Krasue. Absurdly strong and easy to play with very little punishment if you make mistakes. To top of it off they have killed off decent loops and replaced them with hilariously unsafe ones despite releasing strong killer after strong killer.
9 -
Literally watching paint dry over DBD. We've reached the peak lol
8 -
It's so funny people bring up them scrapping the anti slug and tunnel like it's some "we hate survivors!" thing, as if those changes weren't objectively horrid. They were changes that affected beyond what they were intended to affect.
-16 -
I'm starting to think this is the case. You need to be able to communicate whats going on and solo q has none of that.
2 -
How is there ANY excuse to leave survivors slugged more than 90 seconds? The changes were more than fair and even killers were rewarded for hooking and not tunneling. The changes were fine. The thing is killers don't want fairness. Sorry but I have played thousands of matches and its pretty bad that 90% of the game is lost to slugging or tunneling slugging being the worst.
8 -
don't use "Objectively" for your opinion. Hyperbole has already ruined most of the English language.
8 -
Funnily enough, the 2019-2020 time period was actually quite balanced, despite the more powerful state of certain perks.
Then came the release of Blight, who brought Hex: Undying, which singlehandedly became the reason why hex builds got nerfed hard afterwards.
Then came boons, which absolutely turbo-buffed survivors, and got subsequently nerfed into the ground, where they are rarely used today. Also, around this time, Boil Over got a massive buff, that made playing on certain maps a nightmare for killers. "Unhookable" survivors as it got known as. This too got promptly removed.
Then came the dreaded 6.1.0 patch, and everything started to become more and more killer-sided from that point onwards, with a high peak at 6.7.2, where healing got obliterated. After that, there has been some perks that were meta-defining for both sides, but for the most part, survivors has gotten the short end of the stick.
It also doesn't help that maps has been shrunk, the ambient fog is gone, and many many good loops has been removed, and replaced with unsafe ones.
I actually became sad when I saw the jungle gyms at the updated Greenville Square map. Nothing but unsafe short walls, and an over-abundance of double pallets.
I thought the tile-spawn update this patch (9.2.0) was going to help survivors a bit, not cripple them like this.7 -
It's only subjective to those who are disingenuous in wanting a "fair game" like people claim, because if you want an actual fair game, there is zero chance you looked at those changes and claimed them to be fair for both sides. It was entirely inarguable that the changes were simply entirely lobsided. When a set of changes intended for one purpose, extends far beyond that one purpose, yes⦠they are in fact horrid changes that shouldn't have gone through.
That doesn't mean anti-tunnel or anti-slug mechanics in general are a bad thing, it means the ones they did and tried to implement were horrid.
Hell nor does it mean BHVR isn't incompetent for nerfing things that were nerfed due to the anti-whatever mechanics that didn't get pushed through. But⦠that's BHVR. I doubt it's "we don't want survivor players" it's "we're dumb". They've showcased that clearly, this is like what⦠the 10th massively controversial decision they've made in the past 2-3 months with their game?

if its subjective to some, then its not objective at all..so plzβ¦no more hyperbole. Its great for story telling, poetry, and manipulation. Not real discussion. And yes...I loved the changes as killer because it gave me a massive buff for a playstyle that i have already been playing for several years prior to the PTB.
Things that ARE objective:
2+2=4
Triangles have 3 sides
A kilogram is 1000 grams.
Things that are NOT objective:
Anyone's opinion ever.
2 -
Ok fine let me rephrase:
It's not objective, and it is subjective. If you liked the changes, you do not believe in wanting a "fair game" because the changes objectively (and yes this part actually is objective) they were affecting things that they were not intended to affect and were never the problem.
3 -
Respectfully, what tangent are you even going on here? Rapidβs point was clear, he wasnβt asking for killer buffs, just pointing out that the changes felt undercooked and affected things they really shouldnβt have. I get that people are frustrated with how bad this update turned out, but that doesnβt mean the discussion has to get derailed. And calling everything hyperbole when it isnβt even relevant isnβt an argument, itβs just tossing around buzzwords. That doesnβt make your point stronger, and it doesnβt change the fact that Rapidβs criticism was fair and not really an exaggeration especially when they expanded on it. Please learn when to use the word hyperbole because you are using it incorrectly like the first time you used it was ok, but now you just are misusing it lmao.

Why arent you picking that slug up?

I've said this before and I'll say it again, BHVR need to make losing fun for the Survivor role to work. Especially for SoloQ. This is true more than ever now that Survivors can't informally tap out of games anymore by letting go on hook.
Killers can keep their slugging, camping and tunnelling for all I care so long as Survivors also get strong and fun things to play around with too. Let a variety of playstyles and perks be viable. In the animal kingdom, prey has many ways to outwit and evade predation but we've all been forced into chasing or being chased. Bring back stealth. Make the Fog Vials do what they were designed to do. I want to pop a vial and make a speedy getaway like a squid in the ocean, preferrably more than twice a game. I love pebble for the memes but I'd love it even more if I didn't feel like I was throwing the game by bringing it. Why doesn't this perk charge up in chase as well as while in the terror radius? Why does Apocalyptic Ingenuity need you to open two chests for a single flimsy party pallet? Are we really pretending this perk is actually that strong? I could go on...
Most of the fun to be had with Survivor requires you to go all in to make a silly gimick work. Ghost Notes is neat. I like it. But it needs a build like SB, Lightweight and Vigil to really shine. I had an artist the other day bring the add-on that makes you exhausted and it sure was funny to zoom off into the distance when I'd repelled her birds (we didn't pop a single gen in that game, btw). Zooming around and leaving no trace is fun. But then you feel like you're throwing the game for bringing a silly build because it doesn't help the team or counter any common Killer strats. Each update, Survivors get niche perks for niche builds and Killers get a new A or S tier Killer with very limited counterplay. Anything Survivor that might threaten the meta or the status quo soon gets nuked into oblivion. It doesn't feel like both sides get equal attention from the Devs.
Feels like we can never have anything good because the dreaded 4 man SWF can always "abuse" it. Balance at high MMR in this game is frankly such a mess, I don't really care all too much if the sweats have to sweat a bit harder for their wins. They've optimised the fun out of the game entirely and are beyond saving at this point. The game is just completely broken at the higher levels. If a tunnelling and slugging Blight/Nurse/Ghoul 4Ks at 5 gens or a 4 man SWF kicks my arse on Killer I just shrug because they're not playing the same game as the rest of us. It sucks and I don't know what BHVR is meant to do about these kinds of players, but what they have to say on game balance should be taken with a very big pinch of salt.
I liked what I saw of the new systems because they had the potential to make more perks and builds viable by having the Entity step in to referee and mitigate common frustrations on both sides. But certain parts of the playerbase kicked up a stink about it and here we are with the same old same old. I'd like to be proven wrong, but they won't be nearly as comprehensive when they return.
So what is the point of playing Survivor? I wonder that every time that I play the role.

reread my first reply to them on sept. 24. my only point to them. my only argument to them. Was to stop using the word "objectively" for an opinion. That word is becoming a buzzword and used in hyperbole to make opinions seem like fact. I see it used everywhere and never for truly "objective" thingsβ¦only ever opinion. Like when im in a lab and they instruct us to record objective observations onlyβ¦im not gonna be like "I really feel like this bacteria is cooler than the other ones". Its a pet peeve of mine. Seeing words like "objectively" tossed around willy nilly until they lose their meaning entirely.
TLTR: I wasn't arguing their point. I was telling them to stop using the word "objectively" for opinions. thats it.

Oooo, plain white?
1 -
Never, ever plain white. Green, to match the rest of my library. They're for additional book storage. I've been putting it off for a months because I'm addicted to this game.
6 -
Hell yeah. I love DIY. Are you going more moody?
3 -
Yeah. I like darks and mids. I'm hopng to do the whole house like that eventaully. Maroon, navy, mustard, plum, etc. Unfortunately everything but the library is still the default gray because paint is expensive and I'm also lazy.
My next smaller project is actually to make a DbD totem mood lamp now that the plastic skulls are back out for Halloween. I haven't found any good bones for the base yet though.
2 -
I love that. I wanted to do navy and forest green but I'm moving in the next few years so I decided against it.
It's an approachable project for sure. You can do it any sort of way at any skill level. It might be fun to attach it to an existing lamp base.

RN? There really isn't one. New broken killer aside, who's only goal is to get people buying cells to purchase her or to grind away for shards to inflate player numbers, the game is pretty awful for Survs rn. Nerfing Surv perks while scrapping the anti-tunneling/slugging system they were going to implement, ontop of buffing some killer perks, the game is digustingly awful to play.
I truly would love to see the Devs livestream their 4man SWF matches against pub Killers, would truly love to see it. I bet they don't even have the stomach to sit through 5 matches doing that, and even less so if they were to play SoloQ.
2 -
Yeah I've been wallowing in white, beige, and gray for too long as a renter but now I have a house and the neutrals gotta go.
I'm hoping to make it really accurate. I've got some fake candles in different heights that can change colors. Got the skulls, but I need a dremel to cut them properly. I need three good sticks. Somehow "sticks" is the hardest item on the list.
3 -
I hear you there. It's a nightmare. A greige nightmare. π
Amazon is constantly having sales on tools. Add them to your cart and save for later and you'll get periodic updates on price fluctuations. Always Harbor Freight too, if there's one near you. The sticks you have to find yourself most likely. If you're around any nature at all, a good hike should yield some. Then you just have to sanitize them to make sure there's no bugs to sabotage it down the line. And hopefully avoid any Karens that wanna yell at you for taking the sticks out of nature. π΅

being part of the killers winning streaks
7 -
Sorry sir, that opinion is not allowed here π
Seriously though, I love the downvotes. A lot of people genuinely believe that itβs not possible to have fun playing survivor and I wonder why they keep playing the game at all. I play solo queue, Iβm really not very good, so I am like the most likely type player to hate the survivor role. But I still have fun, against all (apparent) odds. I escape just over 40% of the time, according to my stats. Rather than coming to the forums to constantly complain and demand killer nerfs, I work to improve my own gameplay. Are some killers busted? Yes, absolutely. But a vast majority of the killer roster is fine and counterable if you know how to play the game.
Ok Iβm done - downvote away, folks.
-4 -
I am survivor main and I do not see any problem with current changes and meta. What do you mean only killer gets buffs?
Didnt they nerf Dead Man's switch for example? Off the record was nerfed because trolls use it the most which is unjustified and I hope they revert it.
-10 -
First sentence "I have no problem".
Second "actually I Do"
0 -
Also didn't it just get a text correction? And was already giving a 60%. It just can't stack now and from looking it up it was giving 66% before so it actually got nerfed.
2 -
I really wish theyd bridge the gap between soloq and swf. They need to add base kit kindred, a call out wheel, self pick up after 90 seconds slugged, survivor perks in pregame lobby, and a ping system. Im just confused how DEAD BY DAYLIGHT MOBILE had almost all these features. Dbd mobile had survivor perks show in the loading screen all the way back in 2020. Weβre nearing 2026 and we still dont have important QOL features in the base game.
3 -
"But oh, Killers don't like gen rushing? Buff and add more and more gen regression perks."
Over the past 3 YEARS we have gotten TWO new gen slowdown perks. And both are them are widely considered to be pretty bad. And yeah, they buff terrible perks, including terrible regression perks. Ruin and Oppression both got buffed this patch, but that's because they were bad perks, not because the Devs hand killers free regression. Dead Man's Switch was also nerfed and Friendly Competition was buffed.
-6 -
i have 2k in DBD, 1.5k on killers and 500 on survivors and i almost stop playing cause killers are boring, 8 of 10 games are very easy and survivors are unplayable and frustrating in Soloq, 1-2 of 20 games are ok when you can get a little fun and others are complete wasting time..

the anti tunnel and slug was fine and shouldβve went live with zero changes for months while they collect data.
-1 -
Good for me not for thee.
This is the hypocrisy behavior uses that creates all the toxicity around here. Completely inconsistent on how they handle changes. No one likes clowns changes on the PTB but they pushed it through to collect data.
No one likes ghoul but we were told to adapt.
First new item added in years gets destroyed in 7 days.
Anti tunnel and slug 3 days. No telling players to adapt no collecting data for months. And then people scratch there head and is like "ugh these forums are filled with them vs us toxic mentality grow up"
5 -
I don't know that I would say that. I think a lot of Survivors would agree that some wins still feel terrible and that many only happen because the Killer handed it to them, which doesn't really make the game feel interactive.
6 -
Sorry but the game was everything but balanced back then (2019-2020). I've started playing around this time and both sides had so many stupid stuff that was incredible to consider this game had a playerbase.
I remember doing gens in killers face because i had Decisive Strike and even if i got down, i could put the killer into a lose-lose situation with DS + Unbrekable; Medkits could heal you 3 times in 8 seconds each heal with the right addons; BNPs were stronger;
Spirit was at her prime with Mother-Daughter Ring + Amulet; Nurse had range addons; Freddy was weak but could play "Forever Freddy" which killed people with boredom; 3 Hatchets Instadown Huntress was a thing; Ruin and Pop was a common combo; Mori's didn't need a second hook; there was no basekit BT.
People really like to hate the 6.1.0 patch but was one of the healthiest change this game ever received. Many killers were nerfed/rework after this, but people seem to forget.
The only thing i would say is that the game is more and more focused on experienced player than casuals/newer players. But that is something that happens when you have a game with people for 10k hours of gameplay.
The game is in a much healthier state now than it was ever before.
-2 -
The only issue i have as survivor is poor team mates or cheaters when team mates make effort I have no problem.
-4 -
I donβt think people are downvoting you for saying you enjoy survivor, liking the game youβre playing is a good thing. I believe the issue is more where and how you said it.
The OP clearly titled their post about struggling with survivor and questioning if thereβs even a point to playing. Dropping in with βIβm having funβ reads as dismissive, because it directly opposes their point without actually engaging with it. Its kind of like if someone vented about being frustrated with a dairy allergy, and the reply was βwell I love dairy.β It doesnβt add anything constructive, it just comes across like writing off their frustration. ( I am allergic to dairy and I can't tell you how many times I say that i can't have something because of it and i'm bummed and the person follows up with: OMG i would kill myself if i couldnt eat cheese!! And I.. well what am I supposed to say to that lol it just makes me feel worse. )
Enjoying survivor isnβt the problem. I think it's that your comment didnβt contribute beyond a declaration that you donβt share their struggles. If instead youβd framed it as βhere are some of the things that make survivor fun for me, maybe they could helpβΒ that would have been constructive and I doubt it would receive as much negative reactions.
In your follow-up, you leaned into a personal generalization, saying a lot of survivors only think the game is fun if they win. In the context of a post about survivor fatigue, itβs like dismissing others frustrations (including OP) as invalid because they donβt think the way you do, and assuming that the only reason they are unhappy is because they only find joy in winning, which again, is a generalization.
Iβm not accusing you of intentionally invalidating like this, I know how text can be really difficult to pull tone out of, so Iβm just trying to explain the way it might have come across and why it may have got the reactions it did.
It's cool youβre enjoying the role, GLIYN :)

I just had one of these unfun wins:
Totally perplexing and boring. Killers was not AFK. I triggered his Iron Maiden with my BtL. He came by. I just walked away and he couldnt find me. He hit my friend and ran off at one point. Ran past me a few times without seeing me. We won. I did not have fun.
1 -
People have seem to been unreasonably mad after the PTB anti-tunnel and anti-slug changes did not went live.
I'm playing survivor a lot recently it was being fun with the exception of some situations where randoms just throw the match or i get a comp player with a strong killer.
-3 -
I don't know maybe achievements and challenges but not really the experience. Tunneling funnily enough got buffed with OTR nerf...
I haven't played much after 2vs8 left and after heard all the survivor buffs were delayed. Also the bp gains are so small now that I hardly have motivation to play even. B
0 -
I don't care about winning - I've had plenty of games where I got stomped that were extremely fun. For example, before the Myers reworked, I had a match with a Myers who ran a stealth build - that match was so scary that, even though I lost, I had the time of my life facing a biblically accurate Michael Myers. What I care about is having fun. The more you punish a role for simply existing, the less fun you make it. The less fair you make your game, the less fun you make it. This is not a difficult concept, in fact it's PvP 101.
7 -
And yet it was still more fun. I remember it sucking and being frustrating, but I felt like I had more agency.
Year 5 was the first noticeable shift with MMR, but year 6 was ground zero. My earliest memories of 6.1.0 was having gens regress on their own while the Killer stood in front of hooks and nobody could do anything about it, hence the birth of "going next" every single trial. I can respect that we feel differently about it, but it was far less about health and more about making one side incredibly appealing over the other and that's still going strong to this day.
That's why I'll play poorly as Killer on purpose. Too friendly to kill anyone, but also too friendly to give them a boring terrible experience. π I like to think that they get a confidence boost thinking they got one over on me.
1 -
This content has been removed.
-
Well, gen could regress on their own better before 6.1.0, as ruin was 200% before that patch. In 6.1.0. ruin was 100% and turned off if someone dies. Eruption was quite stupid at the time but at least it required the killer to get a down. Camping was much easier before 6.1.0 than after it. And one year after came the anti-facecamp feature.
In the situation you describe, survivors could do even less before the 6.1.0 because there was no basekit endurance and the killer could just hit the hooked survivor after the end of the animation and get them back on the hook if they did not have DS. The gen kick meta was horrible, the worst thing that came with that patch, but it was changed with time.
Fun is something we can discuss because it has some subjective elements, but, at least for me, DBD is quite fun still. When its not i will just quit the game, as i did with other games i've played through my life.
I rather much more play the 2025 DBD than the 2020 version.
Edit: I understand we have different views on the matter, i am just trying to prove my point.
