The Perk Red Herring Works the Wrong Way around.

I want to propose a redesign for the perk Red Herring that reverses its activation to make it more tactically useful.
I have no knowledge that this perk needs help to be better or if its userate is bad. Only that I almost never see it.

Current Issue:
Right now, you must work on a generator and then hop into a locker to trigger the loud noise notification.
However this means you often Lure a Killer to the place you don't want them to be, checking the generator.

"Thanks Zarina, not being on the gens. clap clap clap"

Proposed Change:
Enter a locker in a area away from the generators, this usually happens many times during a game where you have to relocate as Survivor. You activate the Perk while in a Locker. Then the next time you are on a generator, press a button to activate that Locker to create the Loud Noise Notification at that locker.

Why This Helps:

  • It cuts down on steps in normal gameplay to activate the effect.
  • It helps better because you Lure the Killer to a Locker, not a Generator.
  • Makes me want to use the Perk.

Maybe I'm just a silly goose, but I honestly don't see why the current perk Red Herring would ever be useful or easy to use. If there is some master red herring users who would like to show how they can use it better, please enlighten me.

Otherwise, I hope to see this perk changed soon.

A killer seeing a notification on a gen is not going to assume anything besides a blown skillcheck, or one of their perks activating. A killer seeing a random noise notification away from gens is going to assume you're trying to waste their time and ignore it, more so if it keeps happening. And if they see it was on a locker they're just know it was Red Herring.

As a Killer, I dont think I would assume Red Herring if I saw a loud noise notification. If I saw it on a locker sure.
But most of the time, structures are in the way. if the Killer is smart they might not fall for it more than twice.

However that is much better than Zarina running from a Gen to a safe place to activate the perk on that gen IMO.

If you run to random notifications in the distance you're wasting a lot of your own time. And time is super important as a killer. I can get the idea of wanting to make perks like Red Herring more useful or better, but this is one of the few "utility" perks that's actually useful as is.

I have used Red Hearing to annoy a killer to keep them busy on a gen while the others work on another one. Just fix the gen for a while go further away and jump in a locker see the killer come look around wasting his time rinse and repeat until he stops doing it. Then try it on another gen.

I think it should just be like flashbang or wiretap, place a device that makes repairing noises, and if you want, make a noise notification when you enter a locker.

I like this idea a lot. I'd pair it with Mirrored Illusion all the time and watch from a distance 🤣🤣
