Can Freddy's chapter be revived?
Just be be clear I'm talking about Krueger not FNAF
So, as we all probably know Netflix is in the process of trying to buy WB which means they'll likely also own the international rights to Noes if they succeed (I think don't quote me) and as we're actively seeing with ST Part 2 Netflix is very much willing to work with BHVR.
With this I believe there is a good possibility we see the Noes chapter get some updates if the deal goes through, such as cosmetics for Freddy and Quentin (Finally), possible updates to their overall models since they are very old and outdated, maybe even voicelines since Freddy is on Chucky's level of mouthy in the movies and having him be silent outside of laughing here and there feels off when it comes to a character like Freddy Krueger, maybe even a new variation for Freddy's map that's actually noticeably different from the default like oh a dunno..a boiler room?
I'm honestly surprised we lost Myers before we lost Freddy but maybe now, we won't lose Freddy at least not for awhile longer depending what happens. But I wanna see what others think

That deal has not been finalized and there is other things making that deal to be far from done. So no they can't get anything currently.

Even if (I expect when) Netflix buy Warner bros it changes nothing with regards to Freddy.
Wes Craven's estate own the character and any new projects movie or otherwise is entirely up to them and can't be done without them.
Given the fact Freddy never got anything in the game it seems highly unlikely that's about to change.
I'd say its far more likely he's the next license to leave the game whenever the current agreement is up.
I'd definitely pay for a proper Englund Freddy in the game, the remake wasn't worthy of a place in dbd to almost every nightmare on elm street fan there is only one Freddy!
Likewise when people say Netflix buy warner bros we can have pennywise seemingly completely oblivious to the fact no we can't, Steven King could give us pennywise (he won't) neither Netflix nor Warner bros can do either.
More chance of scooby doo, that they could do unfortunately!

The Wes Craven Estate owns the U.S rights to Freddy, WB owns the international rights. BHVR is a canadian company therefore is under the international rights meaning it's up to WB. If BHVR was a U.S company then the Estate would have to be involved but since BHVR isn't the Estate doesn't have anything to do with Freddy in dbd (To my understanding)
If it was up to the Estate I doubt Freddy would have been added to dbd at all-1 -
Judging by how Stranger Things has been handled, I'm guessing no. If they make a new NOES or have a big promo for the originals, we might get something. But otherwise they don't like revisiting old content. Even looking at SAW, the last time we got anything was when Spiral released. I think they'd rather pour more resources into their big name licenses, which sadly these are not. Maybe if they'd gotten Robert and Heather from the beginning, it would receive a bit more attention. But as is, I wouldn't hold my breath.

On A Nightmare on Elm Street rights the Wes Craven estate needs to agree on them doing anything with the original license. The licence in DBD is of the reboot movie that Wes Craven had nothing to do and so its rights are on New Line Cinema so they can license that one how they want. If you want OG Freddy you need to Wes Craven estate to agree and seems like they don't agree on anything currently.
Even if Wes Craven's estate owns only US rights that is enough of them to block any usage of character as they own the character itself. That is the reason why they can literally stop any projects if they don't agree. You also don't seem to get that even if they could somehow get the character licence rights from New Line Cinema that does not even own the original Freddy as I said they would not be able to sell any related to that inside the US as they have no rights to do so. It has no pairing of where the company that uses the license is located. Still as the character itself is owned by Wes Craven's estate makes it totally impossible without their approval.

True very true
Tho I do wanna point out we did get a Blighted Pig halloween 2024 so it's not BHVR just forgetting them (At least not entirely) it also really depends on the license holders decisions since they have to bring it up with the holders for every piece of new content. And from what I've heard Noes current holders are hard to work with1 -
I never mentioned OG Freddy only mentioned updates and new content. I'm well aware the Estate owns OG Freddy that's why I did not bring it up.

Any deals that would arise from WB swapping to Netflix would have to take place after WB is bought and integrated into Netflix and BHVR includes them at the end of its three year content cycle. So 2030 is the earliest I could see this having significant impact on the game.
While I do pray that we eventually get the classic version of everyone's favorite dream demon (England literally said he was down for an animated and voiced adaption of the character c'mon Craven Estate), I honestly doubt we'll get much more than we have.
