Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

hot take?

lukewarm take maybe idk

the reason why the state of dead by daylight has fallen to the point it's at rn is because nearly everyone in the community has "me vs them" mentality and "i do what i want" mentality </3 when did everyone become this toxic???

it's gotten so much worse in the last few years, matches have been leaving a bad taste in my mouth for a while now.. nearly every match (on either side, i'm not bringing up specific issues) is full of players justifying their crappy behavior with whatever they feel like other players have done to "wrong" them

if we can agree that it feels BAD to go against, then WHY are you playing AS it? we cannot expect BHVR to be able to fix every little problem with gameplay, they can only childproof their game so much. at a certain point, it becomes children ripping the locks off the cabinets and making a mess instead.

i'm having trouble properly wording this but i've been thinking about it a long long time, especially with all the tunneling and camping changes and the controversy it brought. BHVR can only curb the communities behavior so much with in game mechanics, it's up to the rest of us to CARE about the people we are playing games with and act like that accordingly.

obviously BHVR's poor balancing doesn't help with this, i'm not saying they're not to blame at all, but i think a lot of us need to be a little more accountable for our own actions in game as well

I hear you. It’s really frustrating these days. The “us vs. them” mentality starts seeing the game as only the role they prefer. Buffs for one role aren’t seen as, ‘I wonder if this is good for the game as a whole’ but only ‘If THEY get another buff then I want one’.

It’s immaturity for sure. People stop seeing this game in its entirety and only focus on what their preferred role sees and it’s truly a shame. And while I agree with you that BHVR has no control over people’s attitude or thoughts at the end of the day, I do think they’ve kind of encouraged the whole ‘us vs. them’ mentality, just in the way they balance. It’s usually a “we’re gonna do X and to compensate we’re gonna do Y” which already feeds that “my side” “your side” instead of just the game. It makes people unable to identify or accept genuine issues because all they focus on is how it will change the role they like to play, and not how it will change the game itself. It implies that the thing they were changing in the first place needs compensation for change and not just simple needs to be changed for the sake of the game.

But I don’t think this will change, sadly.

I totally agree. It’s like playing with drunken toddlers. Most my games I am seeing survivors just give up and not really put much into the game. I also see killers go hardcore when it really isn’t necessary.

I think BHVR has balanced around tunneling and camping and slugging. It’s why toolboxes got buffed, gen speeds fly, and other changes. If you don’t tunnel at a certain level you can not win and on this game it seems the killers need to win every game. Also they have balanced around SWFs making a lot of perks not worth it because of synergy in a 4 person team, when in soloq a perk was most beneficial.

When they nerfed distortion into the ground and then brought out Keneki all the solid players left or play casually now. But hey as long as the TTVs are happy that’s all that matters

This goes more toxic because of moralism

this is exactly why i stopped playing dbd. it's hard to be a "i care about people's fun" type in a game full of "your fun isn't my job and i will actively go out of my way to make you as miserable as possible" type mfs.

two of the biggest problems in this community is the "your fun isnt my responsibility" mentality, and the "its ok for me to treat people like dogshit because they're playing the same role as people who were toxic to me" mentality. dbd players complain about toxicity and then act completely toxic to people who did nothing to them, then act surprised when they return the energy, and the whole cycle keeps going. it never stops because it's always someone else's fault.

it got really old being punished because so many dbd players have an irrational hatred towards any and everyone playing the role of their opponent, so i just stopped playing. it gets so tiring just playing the game and everything you do is labeled as "toxic", therefore whatever vitriol people spew at you is justified. it's sad that with all the problems with this game and the devs, the community is what has ruined dbd, for me at least. the dbd community has never at any point been sunshine and rainbows, but man i swear it never used to be this horrible.
