Special break, Special Vault make it confusing for new players

So we change all perk descriptions (hopefully addons, items and powers too and some point) to make them easier to understand for new players but then add special break, special vault, special idk which makes it confusing again for new players.

I don't get the though process here. 1 Step forward and 2 back.

    I'm not sure I agree.

The game already makes a distinction between "basic attack" and "special attack", so new players have a pattern to work from which makes learning easier. Plus, there's that "more details" button they're adding, which may only show status effect descriptions at first but could definitely also define those terms at some point in the future.

I think it'll probably work out fine, at worst there might be a brief period of slight confusion.

They should call them Power Break (its a break made by the Power) and Power Vault (its a vault made by the Power)

But its gonna be easier to understand once we get a clear split of the origin of the Break or Vault

The naming itself is quite special (no pun intended). But it definitely makes descriptions more clear than before.

i will cry if this is actually implemented into the actual game because this change sounds so garbage think about it if we have to do a vault when a killer power is not in use or a perk effect in use would mean that most of the killer vault combos are no longer existent.

window Myers gone, chucky scamper nope, legion powers now negate the whole roster of vault perks I could go on but on another note

this also means if you happen to have any speed boost of any kind vaulting it wont activate the perk because it"s a special vault moreover this means the perk power up and others that give you speed boost negate every vault perk because it's a special vault this should not happen.

I think it's a good change. It will take some getting used to for sure, but it's not really any different than how we've already differentiated basic vs. special attacks for years.

Ultimately it should also make it more clear what effects work with what perks, etc. and what doesn't, which I would argue makes it better for newer players, not worse. There were already a lot of inconsistencies in the game with this type of thing, ie. some perks worked with power breaks while others didn't and it was pretty confusing trying to keep track of that since the game currently doesn't really give you that information, also stuff like Bamboozle half working with special vaults but not increasing the vault speed.

I don't really agree that it's all that more confusing than something like the main example of Dissolution not providing Spirit Fury stacks seemingly arbitrarily in the current game. I think the the terminology is pretty clear and consistent with what's already in the game (what with basic attack vs special attack). Special-break in particular sounds silly, but I think it'd be easy enough to understand, especially with the extra tooltips they're going to provide.

But here's the real annoying thing about this: They can meet us halfway.

They can make Bamboozle not affect vault speed (or do, but at a reduced value) for special vaults, but still apply the block. They can make Spirit Fury give stacks for special pallet breaks, but less stacks (or define Dissolution as an automatic break instead of special break). They can explain stuff like this with their new, short and concise perk descriptions, very easily.

If they end up going that route with it, great! More levers for balance is awesome. But as it stands it looks like they're not, and this new way of doing thing just throws nuance out the window and kills funny power/perk interactions so they don't have to worry about them anymore, and that sucks.

I wouldn't call it a bad thing, but more than anything it's highlighting the way that a lot of us feel—the game is too bloated and there's too much you have to learn.

pretty sure that was the initial discussion, then you have to think of perks so where would Turn Back the Clock fit into that? So this wording was chosen to try to cover all eventualities, including possible future things.

I think it's harder for us having been around the game to deal with the change tbh, as we're used to saying it in different ways (I'm a M1 & M2 girl for example), but it might make it much clearer for newer players, at least that's what we've seen in user testing. But really waiting for the PTB next week to see how that plays out with existing players.

I slept on it. calling it special attack, special vault and special break is probably the easiest and best understood way, but I dont like it because it feels very kindergarden or childish. Ofc we gotta swallow our pride if we want a system understood by all in this game, Just like the Blue Addons or calling Rituals Quests because its easier understood. AAAAAAA

Begrudgingly we have to follow along, because the rewards gained by clear understood game is better than not.

Also Mandy, Are you guys planning on separating some perk interactions from Powers in the future?
Or is Wraith's Windstorm uncloak attack not gonna be a special attack any time soon?

Because I think it would be an interesting experiment to see how Killers do without perks, just balancewise.
Hey thats a good idea for a new gamemode Mandy, call it Balance Test and its just random addons + random items, no perks.
