People Are WAYYY Too Comfortable With Ruining Everyone Else's Experience
I just had a match as plague where an Orella just stood under the hook the entire match after first hook. Of course she was running stakeout hyperfocus with a toolbox and bnp. Like genuinely why even queue if you're going to just sit on a gen the entire time? Like part of the game is knowing when and when not to take chase and with the dead weight they turned a perfectly winnable game into a loss for the team. Like it's not fun on either side trust me. I don't feel good in these lobbies. Genuinely if you queue up and realize that you aren't feeling it just DC leave a bot for your team rather than sit there afk. Like I'm sorry you're not feeling it but the team shouldn't suffer because of it.

It’s really unfortunate truly.
Dbd needs penalties for people who throw matches like this. (I would say harsher penalties)
When I come across people who throw matches for example, yesterday a Nea got downed within seconds in chase by the killer cause she got stuck on an object after getting hit. The killer left her downed, I picked her up and healed her, she went to every pallet and threw them all.
I recorded it, and sent it in to customer support and reported ingame as well for throwing. (Unsportsmanlike Behavior)I don’t know if they will action it but they should.

Negativity sells, it often brings in the views on youtube videos or whatever platform you use. Not saying its right, just saying thats the way it is.

Its called the Otzdarva rule 2.0 and is good to kill that guy who gives up for one big reason, they play dead bug trying to deveive you by you letting them live but its a trap if you would look at their loadout later it would be perks for gen repeair and yes they want just sit on gens and rush them while their teammates slow the killer so they can eascape.
The pure fact you even mentioned she had toolbox and hyperfocus makes this even more clear. If you dont wanna kill them than atleast slug them so they cant imideatly rush gens behind your backs because thats what they do its their true purpose they lack the emotions you have for them to leave them thinking they have just bad day but thats not truth its strtegy that is rat like its like false charity where instead giving money to save children dying in africa you just help some bum to get rich, decieving strategy so beware and its your call how will you tolerate them but prrsonsly I just take the hook or slug them.
Truly something many people miss, these ones just taking advantage of your empaty like thievs taking weak grandmas purse.-6 -
I'd much prefer people DC and leave a bot but there's penalties for that, and people keep asking for more penalties, so players will AFK or suicide out instead. It happens everytime i play killer and I just ignore them. They'll usually reengage at some point when they realize I'm not sending them back to the lobby.

We're going to have this problem for a long time. This past year showed us that people want to punish people for giving up, but they don't want to encourage them to keep playing.

I think BHVR need to look again at DC penalties, tbh. I don't know why this game has the same harsh penalties as a serious e-sports title. DBD is not a game with ranks to protect that anybody actually cares about.
Matches are also typically very short, unlike a lot of other PVP games. I'd understand there being harsher penalties if the games lasted a long time and went multiple rounds with the same players, but they don't. And since BHVR are not doing anything about the things that frustrate players (like tunnelling/slugging/MMR mismatches), I don't think we need to add insult to injury by putting players who are not having a good time on the naughty step. Especially not since the go next update removed all the informal ways to tap out of an obviously hopeless match by removing the ability to attempt to self unhook on first hook.
It's true that Killers often have bad mismatches too, but at least they can go hide out in the basement and the game will be over and done in 5 minutes. If they DC, the game just ends. But Survivors often have to play out these terrible games and hope the Killer is generous enough to allow the hatch to spawn.
DC penalites should never exceed the average time of a Trial (say 15 minutes) and it should take longer to reach the maximum penalty.
-1 -
Increase penalties and at the same time actually take action against reports of unsportsman-like behavior and throwing and these people either play or get banned. It works and makes better game communities when problematic people are removed properly, but nothing is enforced in this game.
It should be clear by now BHVR need to take serious action against the people that refuse to play the game and throw. But again this is BHVR…
You aren't going to change these people's mentalities, they are like this and that isnt going to change, its not a problem anyone can fix. If they refuse to play the game (and ruin it for others) they should be harshly punished for it and eventually just outright banned. We don't want these people infesting the game and the only thing that will make any difference is severe action against them.
-2 -
Thanks for this explanation, I was a bit confused at the OP how someone standing under the hook was gen rushing but you mentioning the Otzdarva Rule 2 I get it now. Yeah, I don't fall for that "trap" if you suggest you want out the game, be careful what you wish for.

the whole "Go Next Prevention" is like, the best example of what they shouldn't be doing.
I think the game was in a healthier place when there was no dc penalties for either side, coz you could avoid the terribly balanced killers/full toolbox hyperfocus/stake out games etc.
It conditioned the community more to be more mindful of others get better matches.
I don't really think there is anything in place that encourages people to play in a way thats fun for everyone:
-Emblem system was removed (it punished people for camping or doing gens way too quick AKA not engaging with everyone)
-DC penalty and go next pevention actively punish you for controlling your experience (there is arguable a lot more unhealthy things in the game now than pre 6.1.0)
-There isn't really anything truly effective in punishing tunneling/slugging without a full build to counter it plus most perk/item options have been nerfed into the floor
-Same for killer there isn't really anything to stop genrushing baseline aside from playing really well, I'd much rather base gen kick be way more impactful even if it meant a nerf to perks.
at this point though I'd rather they look at old DBD and maybe look at what they could learn from it.2 -
Punishing people because they had a bad run and are facing their tenth loss of a session or something isn't helpful to the game. Neither is banning your players. People have bad moments, especially in a game where the match is often decided in the killers favor 1 minute in. We could just try to make the game more rewarding and less frustrating but God forbid we change a single thing that could infiringe on the killer power trip fantasy. They can't even update mediocre perks or mechanics without the CCs and all their zombie followers crashing out daily.
-3 -
Have to admit that if you give up on first hook the match is noway on killers side. You can win any match in any situation it depends on what happens in the match. I have seen way many times people to throw matches that are totally winnable just because they get unlucky at the start.

I didnt ha a clue until I saw his video but it makes sence its actualy very successful and minimaly its 50/50. Sadly for them if they dont want to stay and I dont want to hook them than I slug them so I had no risk and only risk there is that when I slug them too much they can abandon and leave bot that will do something.
I dont claim all people that give up do this but ifthey do it near gen where you found them of have toolbox theres very high chance that they are doing it. Like if someone plays normaly and you totaly are destroying his team and he than gives up and gestures for you too hook him than that petson isnt doing this scumy strategy but wants out fast from game that is lost the chance for that is high here.
In DBD player must think because even some things that look strange can be actualy very well planned strategies like in this case this one where he makes you spare him and he will rush gens shile his teammates have your attention and than has great chance to escape either his teamates are good and stall you till they get gates or he survives to be the last and has options.
Like one game on jawkins I had kate downing herself under pallet with plot twist. It could mean she is meming but I thought about other thing, she had that perk combo so when you pick her up she will stun you with pallet and syves herself luckuly for me I guess it and picked her near the edge of pallet and as soon as I could move I m1 from pallet she dropped it but I was out of range, she tried it second time but I didnt forget I feared more the first time she has buddy hidden around that will save her, things like this require player to know about them from some video or already facing it before etc. but its worth to be on picture because than you can make decission and counter it like me here gaining free hook two times.

Yes, this is what i keep saying. The solution to this problem is to stop cultivating a community that says "memememe" and start banning people harshly for ruining games. Literally every other online multiplayer game does this right now. Why can't DBD?
4 -
Yeah genuinely I'm so tired of the third survivor giving up at 1-3 gens just because I killed their teammate, only for the other two to pull some absolutely gamer plays and still get out or die at the exit gates because Claudette or Yui or Sable went "I don't wanna play anymore" and couldn't be bothered to do even the bare minimum of wasting time for their teammates.
I mean this genuinely to anyone reading this, if you DC the match during perfectly winnable scenarios and just stand still to sabotage your teammates chances, please just go play something else. You are clearly burnt out on DBD and letting it affect the way you approach matches, to the active detriment of everyone involved.
The dislike count says everything tbh, players here will make any excuse not to play the game they signed up for.

As killer you can win any match in any situation, but not survivor. I've never once seen a survivor team recover from everyone being on death hook with 5 gens up. That's why there's so much more discontent on the survivor side. Comebacks are bordline impossible. I never feel hopeless as killer but when I play survivor I can generally tell if the match is lost a minute or two in just by assessing my teammates behavior and the killer's. It's why so many people give up. It's become predictable if you've been playing long enough.
As for giving up on first hook, it happens in my killer matches a lot, and I usually assume it's because the person either sees the writing on the wall or they've had a string of bad matches and this one is already off to a bad start. I had a match a few days ago where a Sable went down 20s into the match and DCed. Next person I found DCed after I injured them. Third one DCed after a couple gens got done. People feel hopeless and they leave. Punishments aren't going to help with that.

Save that for a ranked queue for people who take the game way too seriously honestly
-2 -
Are any of the other online multiplayer games as casual as DBD is?
4 -
I agree my friend.
-4 -
This mentality happens about the same on BOTH Sides on average, if you mostly play killer role I can understand not seeing that.
I've seen killers give up because there first chase was too long and gens poped, or because the chase was long and someone got a save.
I have also seen killers who will just give up as soon as we load into a map they don't like, swing at gens to get you do them and then open the gate, should we also punish them with bans and harsher punishments as suggested in this thread for survivors.1 -
When I queue for survivor matches if I hit the point where I'm not feeling it anymore? I CLOSE the game! Yeah I kinda check out if 3 gens pop in the first two minutes but, You know what i do I play friendly I make sure the people in my lobby still have a good time. It's not that hard to realize that in a multi player game you're not the only person who matters
-7 -
Also really have better anti cheat because it not fun going against cheaters in pvp games since ruined the fun for other people at DBD.
4 -
I dont have a good time when the killer just gives up because i looped him too hard.
I dont have a good time when the killer just gives up because they dont like the map.
my whole point is its a both side issue and if you want to punish one side you need to also punish the other which I doubt people advocating for harsher dc and bans would want to do to killers.3 -
I really do hate survivors that won't contribute. I mean sometimes my match is going poorly. But I keep trying to do gens and do my best. It's a team effort and 1 quitter means 3 other survivors lose.
4 -
I do the same. I make them stay.

The big problem with the "Free" go next because "why should someone suffer a bad game" mentality is the following….
Where do you draw the line? Till the game becomes unplayable?
You need to see the whole cake and not just your own piece, DBD is a 4v1 game and this means everyone has a different opinion on all these categories:
- Who is the Killer
- Are the Survivors bullys
- Which map came up
- Which perks is the opposite running
- Which addons are in play
- Do you like the enemys playstyle
- Is the ping correct
- How long is your losing streak
- Did someone BM you
- How fast you got hooked
- How long does it take for a gen to be finished
These are just some examples which could be take for the stance "My Game is bad and I am suffering so I should be allowed to go next" and remember you have to think about these situations for every Survivor or Killer in every game.
Now I hear you saying that people won´t abuse a free go next and I am just asking "Do we play the same game?"
Till today I didn´t understand how people think that a rank quque would lead the players which like to ruin over experience would go for a challenging game.
Be honest: Do you really think that bully squads or hard sweating killers want to go against good enemys? No they want to ruin/win at all cost and if their enemy is miserable thats the cherry on the cake for them.
So who would go into ranked mode? Maybe give something to people reaching a certain rank? Yeah this would bring the casuals into ranked mode because they try to get the free stuff…
So we have two quques both filled with people who want to ruin games and people who didn´t touch gras since the game launched. So nothing will change except there are some people "bragging with the I am Diamond Elo" stuff.
2 -
a ranked mode would increase the ego of some people i feel no?
0 -
"No one is for that?" You should've been here for all the changes that got scrapped last year because of all the pushback.
People say they want changes, but then they push back against any change that comes.

there is a lot of factors, but we'll never have a perfect game regarding the go next. If you've been around for a long time you'll see the go next prevention and the dc penalties have achieved absoloutley nothing. I still see DCing killers/Survivors every other match near enough.
The only thing which has been a success is the abandon allowing survivors who have been slugged for a while to get out of matches the killer is doing it on purpose.
To reiterate, DBD will never be a perfect game and until they find a way to make it more fair (there is just too many factors as you've pointed out) they can't have these punishing systems, cheaters abound, vpners abound.
I personally think people being able to leave was healthier for the game, coz the emblem system put you into matchmaking with people who also abandoned lots (Depipping). Ofc sometimes it was a wild card (high ranks queueing with low ranks) but that is no different than what I see on live. I feel like MMR will always never be perfect, the emblem system at least gave some context to the lobby you were in.
Ranked games I feel would bring the competitive people to the same area, the tunnelers, the gen rushers all the people who want to play the game super optimally.
As for "Bully Squads", I'd much rather be interacted with then spend a match watching gens fly by coz no one wants to play, it's why I play killer or survivor, to interact with the other side. I just think people feel they are too forced to equip for genrushing to build for countering altruism/chase rn. A better base kick like 10 or so percent would go a long way, gen regression/lockdown perks are way too impactful rn, for good reason.0 -
Buddy… Guy… Gen regression has been pretty much gutted all the while the most common perk type to release or get buffed on survivor is gen progression lmao. The pace of the game doesn't allow for 12 hooking on certain characters. Which honestly I myself am bugged by I LOVE Hex Builds and stealth builds BUT, the current pace of the game doesn't allow for that unfortunately. When 2-4 gens aren't popping in the first 2 to 2 and a half minutes I'm facing squads of people who's whole goal is to harass the killer player and try to make them miserable. Like this game has the potential to be great but, the devs need to know how it feels to play both sides to do that and they clearly don't because they keep doubling down on gen progression.
-4 -
Gen regression has been pretty much gutted
Pop Goes the Weasel - buffed.
Ruin - buffed.
Turn Back the Clock - popular new regress perk.
2 -
Why do you think I'm suggesting base kick at the very least do more regression. I feel like you shouldn't feel you need to run gen regression to make the game more forgiving. Honestly I don't think it should ever be meta, chase builds should be.
Base kit on either side could be helped. it could even be tested in an event queue on live servers, because I feel like PTB never bares real match experience, it's always extreme case opinions.1 -
Also because that went SO WELL the last time they tried it.
-2 -
DBD penalties aren't harsh, unless you are quitting EVERY GAME. I had a very bad internet issue some months ago and didn't reached the 10 minute penalty even with many DCs. If someone is struggling with penalties, they aren't playing the game properly and just quitting every match. I don't think this kind of behavior should have any kind of complacency or approval.
Also, people always think on survivor when they talk about DC penalties removed, but are those same people prepared for killers disconecting if they don't get the map they want or if 2 or 3 gens get done in the first chase? Dcing after getting a pallet stun/flash save they didn't think they deserve? Dc'ing after missing a power? we won't have matches if games goes like this.
This game is already hell with the current DC penalties, making it less punishing will just make playing worse, specially for SoloQ.
I agree. BHVR really needs to push those who don't like DBD but still play the game out (at least for a while).
Like, if you are not in mood for a match, why try playing? Why join a lobby, go into a match and then DC the instant thing go out of your way? We don't need these types of players. They can complete a lobby but they can't play, so its a play who just wastes everyone time.
I'm always do breaks so i'm not that stressed when i play the game. Some people should do it too.-1 -
But i ALSO WANT killers to be punished if they decide to quit. I don't think anyone should have a "FREE DC" pass because they destroy the match of 4 other people. I believe most of us who ask for harsher penalties want this for both sides. I also play survivor and have seen killers quitting for many reasons and i don't endorse this. If you lose, you lose. Patience
Got looped too hard? Patience. Learn something from the match. Lost too many gens on the first chase? Try running Corrupt Intervention - although there is some cases where the isn't much you can do. Killers, as survivors, should play the match they logged in for.
Killer and survivors shouldn't have permission to DC and ruin everyone's game just because they feel like it.
0 -
You can get a 15 minute penalty for DCing 3 times. Then it's necessary to play 20 games without disconnecting to remove one penalty point (at least that's how I understand it to work). The penalty doesn't decay with time spent away from the game, either. If I understand the system correctly, you could DC only 5 times in 100 games and still rack up a big penalty for it. So yeah, the system seems pretty harsh to me, especially for a game with the worst MMR system and balancing in the business. With all the frustrations and annoyances present in DBD, it's amazing to me how few DCs there actually are in practice.
But you are right, some people would be better off not playing this game. After the Survivor games I had yesterday, I should probably be one of them. I don't think BHVR are interested in making the role more enjoyable to average/casual Survivors any time soon. Plenty of things make SoloQ painful to play but a teammate who chooses to DC is not one of them to me (the bots are often a marked improvement over my lobbies, tbh. Heck, if I'm honest with myself the bots are also better at DBD than I am).
Ditto for my Killer games, the game at least still continues on with a bot. It's way better than having someone who completely ruins the game by not participating at all instead of refusing to do the decent thing and DCing.
1 -
95% of my frustrations as survivor comes from random teammates in SoloQ. That's why i try to play with friends, to lessen the frustation. When play solo, i see survivors throwing/DC'ing even when we have a real chance to win and that's really makes me not want to play the game anymore.
I was just really pissed off against killers when going against 2024 billy post rework and with Ghoul during Bloodmoon. Aside from this, i rarely have issues, even when tunneling/slugging is at play.
About playing killers, I hate when i'm playing and someone DCs because it turns into a 3v1. Bot ai is very exploitable -as it should be, bot shouldn't be better than normal players - and then i need just to play it worse and forget about the bot while i let it do gens or turn the match into a real 3v1 ASAP, which is boring for both sides. DC's destroys everyone's games.
I understand that the "casual/average" survivor is having a hard time, but this also extends for killers too. Casual players tend to be stomped in online PvP games after the game gets old - and DBD is reaching the 10 year mark. If you play a fighting game online you will probably get someone so cracked that you can barely land a hit before the match ends. Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur, Tekken, etc etc. I remember some friends of mine complaining about Mario Kart online, where some players were so experienced that they could barely see them in the track. This happens in every game that has some time in the market.
The only salvation i can see for casual players is better and more stricter MMR, dividing the experienced and the newcomers, preventing them from going against each other. Otherwise the imbalance
0 -
I think the main reason a lot penalties/punishments for this behaviour don't curb it as much as we'd like is the reason people do this.
It's not just frustration with the game or wanting to go next quicker.
It's not just sabotaging their team out of some perverted sense of justice for a perceived slight.
It's ego.
"If I'm not playing the game, then me losing doesn't mean I'm bad. If I give up under hook, then it's not my lack of skill that cost us the game, it was my choice, which I control."
Killers turning 'friendly' after one bad chase are an example of this, as well as survivors giving up because they got two-tapped after taking the worst lines ever. They can 'undo' the humiliation by convincing themselves they were never trying in the first place.
People will find a way to self-sabotage and avoid penalties. Don't underestimate the time and effort people will expend to preserve their self-image. I've even seen players that I've noticed are particularly good at the game do this because they got downed/looped for too long. Which is a shame, because if they kept trying they'd probably see a good result.-1
