Friendly/Farming Survivors - Please just play the game.

I've been seeing a huge amount of this lately, predominantly in the event which I presume is because of the BP incentive, but even in regular queue.

I go killer, find my first chase, give the survivor a little love tap and they stop, turn and start crouching to request mercy. Often this comes after the survivor didn't even bother to run.

I shake my head and try to give them enough time to get ahead and start a chase. They do not move, so I down them, and while I'm going for hook other survivors follow me and shake their head with disapproval (this has caused snowballs before too).

I'm not offended by this. I often engage in a little whimsy. I'm definitely baiting a "When the Killer Has Personality" clip in most of my games, but it's pushing it with how often I'm seeing it. I do actually want to play the video game as intended in my limited free time while working for a living.

If even one person is doing this, it puts the survivors at such a disadvantage that they've effectively lost the game already unless I elect to let this individual continue grinding gens unimpeded which, of course, would likely cause me to lose instead.

I don't even mind 8-hooking and then letting them farm after, as the entity hungering doesn't bother me at all. I just want a bit of gameplay in my limited time off. I wouldn't post about this if it was just occasional, but it has been getting so frequent that I kept track last night as an experiment. I played 9 killer matches, 5 of them had at least 1 survivor do this and it soured a night of otherwise fun, balanced games.

Maybe just having a moan, but is this as common for other people?

I wouldnt say the ones i played against wanted to farm. It was either they stood at the hook, disconnected, or went afk for the rest of the round after seeing me. In such rounds id continue to play normally but only 2 hooking everyone except the one giving up. Id kill them off and farm with the rest, if anyone turned to bots id take them out too.

Out of 30 or so killer rounds id have about 23 of these types of 1 person gives up the rest get to farm - rounds.

So yes, these types of rounds are happening pretty often in this event. But between us it seems you get the ones that want to farm, i get the ones that want to go next lol. And its not out of my playstyle or what killer i chose, i do the whole rulebook thing and play the whole roster randomly.

It could be a give up thing, but I've found these people still want to unhook/heal/do gens. They just refuse to engage in the game unless left alone, and they're not even running stealth builds to avoid me, which at least would provide something for me to interact with.

I've been seeing a lot of improvement in my killer play recently, which has motivated me to, maybe not sweat, but try harder and actively want challenging opponents to give me their best showcase of skill. Winning a game where at least 25% of the enemy team won't meaningfully provide any resistance is boring and a huge waste of time beyond a level on the blood web. It's especially annoying if I bring my favourite addons to that game and end up consuming them for no reason.

I try to have some empathy. Maybe I'm playing a killer they've faced multiple times this session and has trashed them so thoroughly that hearing the same TR saps all motivation for them to even try. I don't agree with what they're doing, still, but there's a human flaw I can at least understand, even if I wouldn't do it myself.

I find i feel similar when "trying" to play as ghoul. I'm a big fan of Rize from the anime and of that entire show shes the only character i could've wanted, and got real lucky to have her included along with her original voice actress.

But the playstyle is so bad that its too easy to use, and the community of course hates them with a passion unlike anything since 3 gen merchant. So everytime i do try to play as Rize its like im the 10th ghoul theyve seen, and they either always give up, or barely try. Like id want to test just how tough it is to lose against people trying against her so that you don't feel hated or too overpowered, but it never happens lol. And they will never change the ghoul to a more tolerable state.

I understand why Ghoul is hated, even though I wouldn't say they're OP, they're fun to play but just not fun to play against in most cases. When I play survivor into a Ghoul I do try my hardest, but often lose because someone else gives up. It's honestly a special game where everyone pitches in for a win.

I don't play Ghoul much myself, so I don't think killer choice is the issue for me. In fact, most killers I play are B tier or below. Think Wraith, Pig, Trapper. I also play Springtrap a decent chunk. It's Wraith that is netting me the majority of these survivors that don't want to play, though, usually after they fail to notice my approach and see me uncloaking on their back.

The only time I've ever had confirmation that someone gave up because of my killer was a Clown game. The justification given in end-game chat was that Clown is too boring.

I am also tired of this. I was slugged because I was not wanting to farm like everyone else.

Sorry to hear that, my dude.

As survivor, there's little I have in terms of power to dictate the type of game. I can't force the killer to not be friendly, for example. I don't mind farming with randoms on the odd occasion, but it's just so unbelievably frequent. And, like I mentioned in OP, it's not just in the event queue. I think those in base 1v4 aren't farming though, they just wanna do gens which I mean… Why?

Give me a sabo-happy, flashlight spamming bully squad 1000x over before a team that doesn't even fight back. If I wanted to to ragdoll NPCs for a few hours I'd just spawn a bunch of Dr Breens in Garry's Mod.

I farm whenever I can honestly (when on survivor) when your mmr is not in that low threshold there will be no farming killers for a long time. So enjoy it while you can lol

I have a lot of people throwing and giving up, but not like this. More often then not, my killer matches are sweaty as hell lately. Then i have these ones where I gain instant momentum and everyone DCs or gives up. There's been little in-between.

I did have one guy like this yesterday. He'd play normal until I got a hit then he'd crouch and wiggle around. It honestly aggravates me when people do this dumb stuff when it's clearly soloq. You're just screwing your team.

  • zonkednb
    zonkednb Member Posts: 236

I'll do a little silliness as both killer and survivor, sure, but only in the event that I was going to go down/get a down anyway, or quickly enough that it limits the disadvantage it puts me at. Like if I path into a dead end (still happens ik big noob), I'll let the killer know I'm aware and embarassed of my certified bonehead moment.

That said, I never throw for the purpose of the funny, especially on survivor. I'm in soloQ 99.9% of the time and I don't want to ruin 3 other people's experiences just so I can maybe exhale slightly through my nose when the killer nods at me.

The big early-game DCers I've come across are the wannabe bully squads that play for flashes and sabos and get styled on by simple M1 chases. In those cases, I'm not even mad though, it's gratifying as hell, especially if they were last-second switching loadouts.

But in this case I am the killer that does not want to farm :(

It may be because of the event. I find that most people try and farm during events more than the regular game mode, as events are typically more “fun” or “casual”. I myself farm as killer during events cause frankly it’s really easy to rack up lots of points for everyone. But I understand not everyone wants to play that way. If it’s driving you totally bonkers, you could try swapping to the regular mode for awhile. If not then just keep doing what you’re doing, and get a 4k. If they don’t wanna play then they don’t wanna play but that’s not on you. If you don’t wanna farm then you don’t gotta. Dont feel guilty.

I'll be silly at the drop of a hat as survivor, but for awhile now, most of my killers have been merciless sweats. Nothing like me. I feel like I can't afford to have a spec of fun against these people. Mostly I've just been geting BMed.

My DCers on killer have been people who go down 20s into the match. There's often a chain effect after that, with two or three people DCing, and me giving hatch because I feel bad. Then my other matches are psycho teams stomping me, without any of the mercy I give out. It's been a really unpleasant loop lately, when all I want are normal, mid matches as a normal mid player.

    Phantom_ Member Posts: 1,462

I only have this happen if I'm playing as S.T.A.R.S./RE4R Wesker / Ghostface. Which honestly I get and don't mind as much any more. I will play the game normally until the end and then try to be silly, moonwalk, let them get a few pallet saves etc. I know how sweaty games on my servers usually are, so I don't mind being a chill killer lol.

  • zonkednb
    zonkednb Member Posts: 236

I think I'm seeking some mythical midpoint. I want to play the game as intended, do some chases, win some mind games, make clutch hits with my power, but also recognise a moment worth reacting to and be a bit goofy.

Maybe EU servers are just not sweaty at all though, with over half my recent games having the issue of people refusing to play the game to a varying degree. I don't want to be a miserable sweat, but fitting in games around my job is hard, so mathcing into games like this so often is kinda killing the game a little.

  • Phantom_
    Phantom_ Member Posts: 1,462

That's fair, though I think it's wanting too much from DBD lol. I play on EU servers, and most matches are sweaty as heck. In comparison to NA / AUS servers, Eu is very sweaty.

I thought she was in for like barely an episode then shows up as basically "apart of" Kaneki, fair enough if you read the manga coz she is actually alive in that.

I'm also p.sure the voice of her is not her actual VA lol

    It's off topic but lol

Try being a Pig Main sometime. We're known for "boops" and all that, and yeah it's fun, but sometimes we just want a serious game and there are times when the survivors at the end of the serious game seem to be not happy you were not friendly with them. Sure, some are joking about it, but a non zero number are totally serious.

Now, that said, I am much more likely to be on the friendly side in an Event queue, because lets face it… no survivor likes going against sweaty tryhard killer after sweaty tryhard killer and barely getting any event points because of it, so I like to be that killer who breaks that monotony for them. Sometimes.

Pig is my second most played girly, I love her. She probably gets this the worst though, my experience is similar. I love being a memester, but let me 8 hook first, then we can frolic.

Unless you have her speaking english on your game, the japanese voice is supposedly the original.

And i really liked her character design, the dual personality, and the fact that she was strong and crazy enough that everyone in the show talked about her like they were somewhat affraid of her. Even if it was just 1 episode she immediately became my favorite of the show and then it kinda sucked that she wasnt in it much. Kinda like how my favorite in attack on titan is annie, almost the same deal only she got a whole season lol

The way I view survivors wanting to farm (or being a survivor that wants to farm sometimes too) is as follows:

-See if the killer is willing to (little head nods, 'come here' emote, etc) farm possibly. If they shake no or just hit then you SHOULD play normally or d.c right there if you're going to be a sour puss and not play properly or throw. No one wants that. A bot is better than dead weight.

-If you all decide to farm… as a survivor DON'T BM after it's over. Two reasons for this. 1) Your little sour ass wanted to farm and got your farm so don't be a dick. 2) They might have an end game build and now you're screwed and get what you deserve.

Play how you want as killer. Neither side is entitled to anything.

This is actually reportable. Nobody can be forced to farm if they just want to play the game. Keep that mind should this happen again, and make sure to report everyone afterwards.

I try to give them opportunity to run after the first hit too, reply to their head shakes with head nods so they know I'm not going to stop, all that good unwritten communication. I don't want free downs, I want them to make me work for it like a good boy. I do see the survivors often make the request to farm, as you described, but I very quickly let them know that I do not want to. After that, they continue to try and do so anyway.

I know I cannot dictate how people play the game. I'm not moralising them or calling them bad people. I'm just venting the frustration of not having all day to play, and when I do, getting bunk games that were a waste of queue time for someone that wants to play.

I refuse to farm on either role. If the killer/teammates try to force me to farm on survivor, I just turn the game off. No time for that.

As a killer I'm not against farming, but it has to be earned. The survivors have to be funny, or do something interesting to get me to play along with it. I've encountered a lot who seem entitled to my cooperation and I just 4k when I get that vibe. But doing a puppet show, or making an effort to put cans out for me, etc? I'll typically play along so long as no one is being rude.

I don't have a problem with farming, I just have a problem with the entitlement to it. I keep hearing 'it's an event!' used to justify the expectation, but don't feel particularly moved by it. I have the killers I want at P3, so I don't particularly need to farm. I load up to have fun, or feel challenged. If they can make me have fun without a 4k, good on them they earned the farm. But lack of community BP increase offerings on the event just makes me much less likely to default to cooperation.

too many cute people running around in this event. trickster is not allowed to be played he has fans all over the world that want autographs

Agreed. I'm not swayed by the "Just go 1v4" argument either. Bloodmoon has just enough mechanical difference (admittedly not a lot) to be worth playing as intended.

I don't even care much about 4ks or stats. I just wanna chase, down, see some strats, outplay and be outplayed. You know, video gaming. If I get my fill of stuff like that then I'm more apt to farm. It's when it's the first interaction I have, and they don't get the hint from the first hit that I'm not here to weave flower crowns for 10 minutes, that it irks me. I get to be the bad guy and I don't have a fun game.
