Do the devs have any plans to put forth solutions when queued against high ping VPNing killers?
I think it’s about time they did something about this.
The amount of times I’ve either loaded into a game and went next due to the killer having high ping or got hit over a pallet or window when my feet touch the ground and dc’d is actually insane. Or seen my teammates get hit stupidly and just stand there AFK because they know it was absolute bull crap.
Even in a 4-man SwF, me and my friends dont care for winning and playing it out if the killers ping is high… we just throw ourselves at the killer to put ourselves out of our own misery. It’s becoming a massive problem and really hindering my enjoyment in the game.
I don't like being that guy who ruins the game for everyone by going next or dc-ing but I will happily if I’m not having fun due to the killers ping.
It really is legal cheating at this point, you get killers swinging into every pallet and window because they know they will get the hit regardless, even if it doesn’t land on the survivors screen.
Please, stop giving the killer ping priority.
Kick people from lobbies if they have ridiciouly high ping, remove the ability to VPN and add more servers to the game so people don’t have to VPN. Anything to stop high ping killers. The fact I could have a killer sitting at 500ms and them not get booted is wild.
I mald at anything above 60, I know some people just have bad connectivty - but why do I get punished for that when I’m paying for high quality internet? I’m reaping the consequences of something that is out of my control and it’s just not fair. I shouldn’t be punished because someone else has bad internet!

I'm not sure how you'd stop people from VPNing. Sure, they can blacklist common VPN IPs but these change regularly and they'll just connect via a different server. It'd be a never-ending arms race.
Ping limits are something I'm a bit unsure on. When I'm playing the game into someone with 200ms or higher, I feel you fully. It's infuriating to take hits you know you should have outplayed because the killer is attacking a past version of me, especially when that hit ends up dictating the course of the game.
Yet, I also know there's no way to confirm what is deliberate and what is circumstance. Some people live rural, or in areas that aren't as modernised in terms of internet structure. This is not their fault, and if they are able to hold a playable connection, it feels unkind to tell them they are not fortunate enough to get to play.
What would be better would be finding a way to detect ping spoofing, as I've seen this in action and it's absolutely lame.2 -

I fully understand the frustration.
There are two primary issues methinks.- Each hit in DBD is massive compared to many other PvP games. It's a change of gamestate, so getting hit from behind cover once or twice is annoying, but far less disruptive than being extendo-armed over a pallet.
- The netcode is either dated, janky or just straight up bad, and I don't think there's much interest in updating it. This was once a peer-to-peer party game, given dedicated servers later on. It feels like the servers still somewhat operate on the Killer being the host.
The thing is, I don't know a solution that's a clean break. If they update the netcode, then you could end up with the inverse happening. No-reg on hits you earned as killer would be equally frustrating, getting forced out of your clear outplay to eat a pallet the survivor dropped 5 seconds ago but you couldn't see it until now would suck. If we start enforcing ping limits, then we discriminate against players based on geography or financial situation, entiehr of which I'm particularly fond of, even if I get the odd game ruined.

That's fair. I think the question comes down to what concrete actions can be taken beyond locking people out of a game they very likely paid for.
I think the best possible option here would be to increase server coverage, but that's an investment that they don't appear to regard as worthwhile. While they're at it, start teasing some of the knots out of the netcode. I suspect both of these are extremely unlikely, and would love to be proven wrong.0 -
Not all of them are even VPN users some of them are people who play the game from region that has no own server so their ping is just naturally high as they are placed on the closest server anyway.

Very simple answer - they’re not going to do anything about it. And 99% of players will keep playing the game even though this problem exists.

The question is, do you really trust BHVR to do this in a manner that doesn't disrupt literally everyone?
Sometimes the in-game ping indicators are straight up wrong. How do you even start asking for ping constraints when they can't even get that right? And what should the ping limit even be? What about people who are friends with someone in another part of the world and want to play together, ping be damned?
Maybe an optional ping slider could work; it works really well for TF2. But that's Valve and this is BHVR. No offense to BHVR but I don't think they have the managerial talent to implement this cleanly.

Yeah, acknowledging it would be nice. I've not nearly the hours of some folks here but I've found myself becoming more and more of a ping princess when I'm up against Myers and his secret halberd weapon skin.

Maybe you're right, they can't do much about ping, but they could put more in place to check the validity of a hit. Right now bad ping favors killers. What if, immediately after a hit, the system checks the exact distance between player A and player B and works out if the hit is valid or a ping hit. I'm sure we all wouldn't mind playing bad ping killers if they didn't have an advantage.

Last time they tried to address latency problems, their solution was hit validation.
This almost led to a killer exodus, as it also worked for the game's most common perk back then: dead hard.
I vividly remember getting hit validated 3 times within 10 seconds. Two pallets and one dh inbetween.
Obviously it was somewhat fair, as the killer didn't really get the hit, the feedback from the game however was atrocious. You got all the indicators for getting the hit. Blood on your screen, survivor screaming and in some instances even the scoring event and the cooldown animation.
It literally felt like you got robbed.
For me personally that (the short period before 6.1.0) was the worst time playing dbd.
Obviously this issue got addressed, dh got reworked and hit validation got tuned back. Don't know how they could fix it tbh. Sadly I encounter a lot of killers that swing for everything as well. I then quickly check ping and instantly know why they do it.

In this day and age, any company that tries to ban VPN usage is going to take a hit. Even some governments are trying and the EFF is fighting them because VPNs are about more than just ping, they are about network security.

Yeah we can try with validation. But there's this weird ping elitism going around saying like "People with bad ping shouldn't be allowed to play the game" and if Devs for any insane reason decide to punish or block people with bad ping that might just kill the game.
Even worse hackers can just easily ddos a player or streamer making his ping bad holdings his ability to play hostage. Its just all around a terrible idea

I don't think we should be banning people with bad ping, that's silly. But let's just make the game a little fairer. We need better validation. I will play with bad ping killers all day long, so long as they don't have an unfair advantage.
