Survivors need to be punnished for staying idle after unhook and giving up

In every game I play as a killer, one or more survivors stay idle after unhook because they want to give up. I am wasting my lifespam because of this - I am waiting for 10 minutes in queue just for one or more survivors to refuse to play against me because…. I don't even know why.
Why do they do this to me? It's so boring to experience this as killer and EVEN as soloq survivor. BHVR needs to implement some changes to prevent this entitled people to ruin our experiences.

Same problem here, I play Xeno and it happens to me in every 2nd game... I dont know how to fix this. I think it is in player mind and until there isn't "de-pip" system the sittuation is getting worse.

What kind of punishment would you propose? And how can you ensure that innocent players won't get caught up in it?

presumably innocent players dont avoid hitting skill checks on stage 2.

i have no opinion on punishment, i dont meet throwing players too much. its annoying when they do though. had a doctor game recently where 2 survs insta dced and so left the other 2 guys against bots. now the bots actually played like an average survivor and kept me running loops longer than i expected but im also an average killer and ultimately they lost because bots cant deal with meta knowledge the way a player can.

or sometimes a survivor just lets me or someone else bleed out on hook while not doing gens to justify doing so

I agree. As a killer, when I see a survivor doing this, I just eliminate them right away then declare the match a bust and let the other survivors escape.

I almost never see Survivors giving up, neither as Survivor nor as Killer. So MAYBE it is the way you play? If you wait 10 minutes, maybe dont make the game as unfun as possible for the other side, so they are more likely to actually interact with you.

Or you are straight up lying or exaggerating if you say it is happening in every game.

I'd agree… But first let's punish killers who camp or tunnel from the very first moment of the game. Then, and only then, we can punish survivors who afk after being hooked.

Not saying you're doing some of those, but from my experience, most killer players are. So maybe that's why so many survivors do that.

We're not talking about the people who missed the skill checks on the hook. We're talking about the people who stand idle after being unhooked.

I don't want to discuss balancing of this game. There's a lot of players who REFUSE to play this game. I don't care about tactics, about genrushing, camping etc. There are people who are queueing and are RUINING whole game for other 4 people. I am waiting 10 minutes in queue just for someone to refuse to play.

This isn´t the problem.. Survivors have oppurtunities to punish these "tactics" there are plenty of perks that can ruin this playstyle and often on high MMR you see these builds. For example I post here the screenshot of my one game.

When BHVR went back on the AFK Crow update, it became pretty obvious they don't have a big interest in cracking down on survivors ruining games by refusing to play them out. There was also someone who posted a support ticket about a survivor player intentional griefing and BHVR basically said that they won't do anything about it.

That's just the sad state of the game. If you want to queue up and AFK or be an active detriment to your teammates, you will not see consequences for doing so.

BHVR said (in one of their blog post about MMR) that they dont want to force people to the meta perks. They have also said that DBD is game without any rules and it can be played by any means. So Hide and Seek is also possible playstyle.

Just because BHVR doesn't want to police the right way to play the game, doesn't mean we have to allow people to refuse to engage with their only objective or sabotage their teammates by blocking them when they are trying to run away from the killer or intentionally blowing up generators to make sure progress doesn't happen.

AFK Crows has been in the game since the start. So the intention even before looping became the popular way to play was that survivors shouldn't be doing absolutely nothing all game.

What kind of response is this? You have no idea how OP plays and yet you are blaming them for survivors giving up. The downvotes are definitely deserved.

    Aven_Fallen Member Posts: 18,732

As if I care about Downvotes, lol.

The thing is, there are two possibilities: OP is lying and exaggerating the numbers OR OP really plays Killer and has someone give up in every single game they play.

And if OP tells the truth (they dont, lets be real), then it must be OP who is playing in such an unfun way that nobody wants to play with them. Simple as that. I have my own gameplay (as said, I dont see people giving up that often regardless which role I play) and I can watch countless hours of streams and I dont see nearly as many Hook Suicides or DCs as OP is claiming to happen in their own games.

You may not want to (and it's fine, I don't either) but I think it usually goes hand in hand.

Sure, there are also people who just DC's because doesn't want to face an specific killer or whatever, but I'd say most of the times it's because they're sick and tired of being pitted against the same kind of players. Just like you're complaining about this specific kind of players. And it's also worth noting that a player who dc's when things go wrong will do so regardless of which side they're playing. I've face some killers who dc the moment they're not achieving what they wanted.

So… Before punishing one side for quitting, we should check what's making them quit and address that problem.

I'd say the same as before. You may say survivors have a ways of 'punishing' (which I'd say is both inaccurate and an exaggeration unless you're in a well coordinated SWF) these tactics, but then you're forcing them to play in a specific way. And, even though I do think survivor entitlement is a thing, that should be out of the equation.

if you decided to go afk mid match thats on you, you are not innocent. sure, maybe something happened that pulled you away from it, but you did que up for a commitment and its on you, not the game if you cant maintain that commitment. and if your doing it regularly then you absolutely arent innocent. it obviously wouldnt be penalized on just 1 occurance, just like DCs arent punished for a 1 off

When a survivor afks or tries to go next after getting caught in a trapper trap. Idk what to tell you. Dont agree with op how often it happens. But it does happen. Ive seen many bad reasons in the 10 years.

This is also why I would prefer for the DC penalty to be removed, so we can get a bot instead of an idle player. But we already know they're not going to remove the penalty, so that's a moot point.

  • HexSlugged
    HexSlugged Member Posts: 416

they 100% shouldnt remove the penalty.

encouraging crybaby behavior is 100% not good for the game experience for either role.

Ah, gotchya. OP is playing Trapper and whenever a Survivor steps into their Trap, they DC. Sorry, I needed that context. /s

Come on, we both know that there are people who DC by the slightest inconvenience. But those are even more rare. And there is nothing which can fix their behavior. However, instead of punishing Survivors who go next, why not try at some point to work at the frustrations WHY those Survivors go next?

But no, whenever BHVR attempts to do this, there are mass complaints and it gets scrapped or reworked into being useless. Yay.

It might sound silly, but at this point I am pretty sure that at least some Killers just want the Survivors to feel miserable. There have been multiple Threads complaining about Survivors abandoning when they are the last person alive, because they dont want to see the Mori. Yet for Killers it is a problem, because they apparently want the Survivors to see it. (While it should be totally fine, since the Killer gets to see it and they apparently want to see it)

But the actual reason for those (I would say it is a small amount of players who think like that) is that the Survivor sees how they lose. Which is not so different from Survivors waiting at the Hatch until the Killer sees them leave, but hey…

should the same also apply to killer for deciding to give up and afk?

I mean when they just give up and stand their after a few gens pop with no downs. or they go and stand in front of the exit gate should that be punished to the same level as we are wanting survivors punished?

I'm against punishing AFK situations where they have played match normally prior for both sides.

    I am wasting my lifespan

If you genuinely feel like that about the game you need to play / do something else for a bit, I had to between ghoul and spring trap release. its a video game and does not have to be played.

your team mates are still playing the game. its a team game(for survs) not a individual game like many people play it as.

Id love to dc against legion as i hate playing against him with a passion, but i dont because i have a team and its not fair to them i abandon the match. i still need to do my best to give them a chance at escaping.

so i force myself not to be a crybaby even when its clear the game is lost.

We have a system with Crows to detect if your afk so why not just punish if they get 3 crows?

It takes 4 mins unmoving to get 3 crows btw

Another thing that's funny is that a Survivor standing and doing nothing is considered a bad thing, but a Survivor lying on the floor doing nothing is fine. Make it make sense.

  • HexSlugged
    HexSlugged Member Posts: 416

one is the survivor choosing not to play in a match they qued up for. the other person is down due to an interaction while playing the game and is an intended function within its mechanics. I.E you are expected to have moments where you are down on the ground.

you are better than this and you know thats an absolutely absurd point you think you are making.

It's more than you think, same reason why killer lobby dodging is never addressed or acknowledged by BHVR or killer players.

Killer playerbase is very self-victimized and then coddled by the game, doubles down on itself.
