While i'm surprised with the forum's closure after all the years i've been on here, i had already mostly stopped frequenting the site for the most part not that long ago, so i'm kinda whatever about it as a whole. I certainly can't say that i'm gonna miss this place nor a good chunk of the people on here, especially when it comes to a specific few certain users on here that i despise.
At least with the site closing, it'll save me the trouble of having to manually contact a mod to close my account.

What do you mean by "tens of millions of DBD players already on the platform" when referring to Discord? I asked friend in the server how many are in there and they said theres 800k, not even 1 million. Did you mean to write "tens of thousands" or are you assuming the general user population of Discord could be potential DBD players?
Also seems weird to bring up user count on Discord that aren't using the official DBD server anyway as a reason to focus on Discord and close the Forums. If theres tens of millions but you don't even have a million in the server it seems like maybe the official server isn't appealing to most of those DBD players already on Discord. If it doesn't appeal to people already on discord why would it appeal to those of us that use the forums, most who chose to not use Discord at all in the first place?

Not everyone uses social media such as Reddit and as far as discord goes, absolutely not. Your community is too wild for discord. One disagreement and they'll be using usernames to track down accounts.
The forums, although they can get a little messy, are by far the least crazy.

I didn't realise that BHVR was in such dire straits financially that they can't supply the pittance required to keep this forum going.

The forum came about because DBD extended onto other platforms besides Steam. It was meant to be a place where all platforms could access and discuss the game. Moving to segregated communities is a step backwards and a shot across the bow this may spell the end of DBD as a supported game. Doing something like this isn't showing support for another 10 years.
For me coming from the Steam forums, I guess that's where I'll end up. Steam isn't accessable to non-Steam players so not many here will follow. Not signing up for Reddit or reinstalling Discord. So much for that central forum we all could gather.

Only a little bit when I had downtime at work.
I mostly enjoyed the outrage of people about their "unfair" bans and their attempts at appeals.

On one hand, it makes me sad; I’ve been here since 2019, though not continuously. On the other hand, I hadn't felt comfortable here for a while, and I felt like I had to excessively self-censor after being temporarily banned two or three times over trivial nonsense.

Sad news.
OG internet users do enjoy forums and I am one of them.
I am sure that I will not be participating in discord or reddit, those platforms are messy in comparison to forums.
With that being said, we might never talk again so good luck everyone. See you in the fog.

I’m really disappointed. Since there are already several platforms up and running smoothly, I can understand why this forum is being shut down.
I’ve already joined Discord and check it from time to time. My concern is that there’s no place to post in languages other than English. I once asked the administrators on Discord if they planned to add channels for languages other than English, but they told me that since there’s no one available to manage them, it’s not possible at this time.

Your draconian ban policy and not being afraid to use it didn't help. I've held my tongue about this until now. Now? It doesn't matter.

3 actually. From what I understand, they have a 3 strike policy. While is is possible to get a strike removed, it's very rare. Context doesn't matter unless it' really bad then you can skip straight to the full ban. But 3 minor transgressions = permanent ban.

The escalation system has 4 stages:
1 Warning —> Just a Warning.
2 Warnings —> You cannot write as much and I think you cannot open topics. But at the very least you have a slowdown.
3 Warnings —> 1 month Ban.
4 Warnings —> Perma Ban.
But not every bad post can trigger a Warning, so I would assume that they were lenient and sometimes only removed posts and did not warn for them. Which is why I said "below 20", since there were probably removed posts, but they were not punished.
However, the big issue with this system is indeed that a relatively small amount of posts can lead to a Ban. AND you might have Warnigns which are a few years old and they still count towards the system. So if you got 3 Warnings in 2018 and you write a few bad posts in 2026, you might be gone, even if you had 8 years of only positive and well-received posts between them.

Well... to be fair, the forums died last December with the massive ban wave.
We lost most of the people that actually wanted to engage in productive discussions.

This is the case. Console players like myself had just as much of a voice on this forum where as many of us are very unlikely to ever visit the steam ones.
I feel like our opinions won't really get heard in any real official capacity now

Literally bans almost all the vets at this point with a shoddy system that even if you take years and don't make a mistake never goes away. Causing half of the people to eventually get banned, then is surprised that no one bothers to come around anymore or if they do they feel half interactive. Why say anything when there's a risk of it causing you to lose your account? Shoulda changed up your system a long time ago. But it won't matter in a month anymore anyway. It's been a fun few years with the few people that avoided the system. Sad for the people we lost along the way to it. Hopefully meet them somewhere else. Who knows.

I didn't want to believe the doomers as I was so happy to have a forum I could read and sometimes engage with without the constant algorithmic garbage that is centralised social media, and, of course, a Discord channel is firmly not a replacement.
Requiring players to engage with 3rd-party services, especially with a focus on Discord which is an application and not a website is fundamentally disappointing.
I get that money people made this decision, not the mods or community outreach staff, but please relay the message that this is a terrible decision for player engagement and feels almost deliberate.A shame it's so hard to find a space on the internet anymore that doesn't make you another spit in the ocean that is 5 social media sites.

Well it was a good run while it last. I am going to be mainly seen in the Steam Discussion from now on and of course on the betahub bug reports. I did join the discord channel so if someone needs or wants to contact me you can do that from there. I am not avid discord user but I check it time to time. Never been a redditor so there you wont see me. I created a steam group for this forums users if people want to join it.

After all these years, the forum ended; nothing lasts forever.
The forum is calm for the mind and most of its members are rational. Going to Discord is like entering a palace hall filled with monkeys and chimpanzees screaming and jumping around!!
Discord and Reddit are not healthy for the mind!! Oh, I'm not excited to see strange changes in the future because ideas came from there.

I don't get the point of this, sorry, but the forum was constantly active. People posted and discussed things here every day. You want to switch to Discord and Reddit? Places where there's either nothing but nonsense or where nothing has been posted for a year? You’re just making everything worse and more broken. You’re destroying yourselves from the inside.
It’s not the community or the game itself that’s to blame for fewer people playing DbD. It’s you and your stupid decisions; you aren't looking at the long term at all.
Just how shortsighted and self-destructive do you intend to get? Assuming it’s even possible to make things worse than they already are.
One disappointment after another… do you even think about the nonsense you’re spouting? Personally, I actually had tons of ideas and suggestions for new chapters or skins but i guess thats the end. You dont deserve my ideas and suggestions anymore.

The state of the discord currently has way to many children (mainly chronically online tik tok users) going back and forth with one another trying to either bully or ragebait or randomly bring up topics to be bigoted for attention. Had to leave because it became too toxic of a place for a normal discussion so I'm sad to see the forums are being retired now.

That is a real damn shame.
I've been inactive since I've been on hiatus from DBD for a long time now, but I hate to see the trend away from self-hosted forums to third party messaging platforms that aren't purpose-built for that kind of structure. Live chats and the lack of any kind of permanence or a decent search feature makes it feel a lot more fleeting.
No shade, but the lack of a cool-down on warnings and the like eventually lead to a lot of regulars getting banned, and those were the people who were really driving the discussions. It's no wonder engagement went down over the years.
Is there even a ban appeal system for the Discord? I got permabanned genuinely like >5 years ago for posting wiki screenshots in response to player questions, and the moderation team has basically changed entirely since those days.
One more question: Will the forums be left read-only for archival purposes? There's a lot of valuable posts regarding the history of the game here, and it would be a massive shame to see that all go.
Either way, it's been a good six years. It was a pleasure to meet some of y'all.

This decision seems completely backwards, and, quite frankly, stupid, but then again there have been a lot of those recently hasn't there?
It's hard not to be sentimental though. I've been on here at least since 2020 and in that time I've met so many amazing people, some of whom I still call my friends even to this day. Regardless of this game or company, I am very thankful for that.

I want to say the forums are one of the main sites which have kept BHVR on the right path when it comes to feedback, lots of good changes have came from here IMO.
I'm still kind of speechless, thank you for the memories everyone and I hope DBD becomes the best game it can be somehow.also in my final words plz add Unknown for 2v8 <3 Give Claire Redfield more costumes, or just legendaries in general, thanks. AND ADD AN ELEVATION TO TRICKSTERS DELUSION, like you did for Shelter woods and d e l e t e fallen refuge.

Are we really too few to matter?
I've been on Discord since 2017. …much like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc., Discord and Reddit are becoming a corporate cesspool of predatory hyperconsumerism. I refuse to waste my time in 'communities' that believe my attention is more important than my opinion.
Maybe this looks good for business, but it looks bad for player trust.
Meanwhile the world is rapidly moving towards a trust economy, so… good luck.8 -
Pulsar's departure & others being banned made me realize we didn't mean much to BHVR, which led me to basically just go full lurker mode. Crazy decision to close an entire forum but can't say its not on track for them.
Gonna miss checking in here as I don't go on reddit or twitter. Guess its really the end. Salute to all the cool peeps I met. Adios everyone & hope to see y'all in the fog! :/

Edit: And just to make you think a little bit: ask your moderators, why there are less people on the forums. Banning veterans and new people left and right might be one big issue. Greetings to a certain mod.

The Japanese forum has stated that no implementation is currently planned and that the feature will be reconsidered once a secure operational system is established. This mirrors what I had been told previously on Discord. sigh
