We've made some changes to Haunted by Daylight this year - get all the details here!

Haunted by Daylight's back and we've made some changes based on your feedback:

👻When it came to the Void, we know it didn't always feel worth it to go there, from the lack of looping opportunities for Survivors to Killers feeling it hurt gen pressure. To help bring the action to YOU, we've removed the Void and brought pieces of it into the core map

🎃It's Halloween season, so we're leaning into the seasonally-appropriate orange hues

🔪We know you like jump scares, so getting energy from a Void Portal can open you up to a surprise attack

Check out all the details below and let us know what you think!

I played this mode for 2 matches and I was already over it.

This sad 5th iteration of Haunted by Daylight just makes me miss even older Halloween events. They still have yet to top the hook withering animation we got to enjoyed in the Haunted Blight 2018.

Congrats to behaviour for another "gee let's coddle survs" event, with absolutely nothing for killers except frustration.

"loop a super unique area" is not really the case. The void, at least in the second iteration, was just a Death Trap for Survivors. Which made them not interact as much with the void as they would have done. Plus, as far as I remember, you could still get slugged in the void and there was a notificaiton that someone entered the void, which made it very easy for the Killer to get a Down (especially with the Haunt).

I dont know, I think a mechanic like the voic which greatly favors one side to the point that the other side is not really using it is the opposite of "great". (And I would say the same if the void was a complete safe zone so that Killers are never in it)

The filter on the maps in the event mode not only hampers gameplay, it is genuinely an accessibility issue. It's so overdone it's difficult to pick out important details, especially distant movement like crows flying up to notify you of a Survivor (or the Killer) in the distance. After playing for a couple of hours, I lowkey have a headache. I wound up playing Xenomorph because at least in the tunnels I don't have to look at the filter.

In every game where I had other people in the lobby also on Steam, I've asked in endgame chat, out of curiosity, if others have been having issues. I've tried to keep it neutral just something along the lines of, "Thoughts on the filter?" Almost every lobby has had at least one person say the filter strains their eyes, makes it difficult to pick out details, etc. Three Survivors in my matches have said they have color blindness that makes the mode borderline unplayable. Two people in a DBD Discord server I'm in have stated that it's disorienting enough to cause nausea that worsens until they can no longer play.

In the menu it's fine, but actually in the Trials? Yeah, it's atmospheric, but at what cost? I was already sad to see the Void go, and now I just flat-out can't see.

(Tangentially related, I know it's been brought up before, but I think it's worth bringing up again because I can't recall ever seeing it addressed… Why is there no blackout/"reverse blind" filter toggle for the blind screen? I'm lucky that repeated blinds only give me a really nasty headache and not the full-on migraines it gives many, many other people, and that I don't have photosensitivity - the only reason a number of people run Lightborn, and can no longer play Killer in 2v8, since Blast Mine and Flashbangs were introduced, and flashlights built into a Class.)

This event is pretty fun as far as I've seen in my matches, the portals are actually pretty okay because they take their time and I find it easier to keep up if I just have to remember to which point on the map it brings me - the void was also okay but sometimes super annoying. The ghost are pretty fun because they are a mix of information and hindrance so you shouldn't ignore them. The faster palette break feels really good.

And at last I actually like the filter - I would actually like to have it as an option to activate. I wouldn't use it all the time, but generally I would like to have it.

TLDR; "We completely removed the main uniqueness of the event and splashed on a repulsive orangish filter on all maps because you youngsters asked for more orange, right?"

Getting lot of eye strain from the event filter :(

The filter looks cool but it's making the mode borderline unplayable. I can't track as killer and I can't judge my surroundings as survivor. After a few matches I was in bed all day with a migraine. And even though the Void was a waste of time it was at least unique. You guys could have just improved it.

Oh yeah no it was a deathtrap for lower skilled survivors and the slugging was a major issue. But the truth is that any survivors who weren't skilled enough to use it could just… not? They don't have to go in if they are brand new players whose never played a game before.

This has turned me off from this event. Already the offerings are limited and they removed event BP from gens. Now I get blocked from kicking pumpkins for event BP? Who thought this was a good idea? This event isn't worth my time, especially over any other game with halloween events that their devs have made more rewarding.

I can confirm that Freddy has basekit Lightborn. My 3am dbd sessions are saved

I dig the the new color scheme, but it's too intense right now. Specifically the orange filter over the map makes scratch marks and any yellow/orange/red auras difficult to read.

The pumpkins are locked on purpose though aren't they? They've only been locked for me when I have a crystal on a gen, then they unlock when you hear that little ding telling you the crystal is done.

Well, that's one way to solve the problem of your players not interacting with the event… Give them less event to interact with! 😂

I felt the second version of the Void was pretty fun, tbh. Had some areas that you could loop around as well as some platforms to mess about on. I particularly enjoyed Frenzy vaulting from the top platform onto the lower one. Yes, it was totally pointless but still fun to do. Sometimes when I had Survivors that would slam the gens and ignore the event, I'd hide in the Void and vault that top platform just for the fun of it (you could also swing across the gap with a basic attack but that's boring).

    voidvault.jpg

These platforms disappeared in the next (and last) iteration, maybe because they put a bunch of invisible walls into the maps that meant you could never vault a window to land on a part of map scenery that made you out of bounds (a re-occurring bug that I guess they felt they had to solve somehow). I don't know for sure, but that's my best guess.

I still think the void had potential to be fun for both sides with a bit more development, but they all but gave up on the idea with last year's disappointingly empty Void set up. Besides, the community barely interacts with the event mechanics anyway. So with half the queue not even bothering with the event stuff at all, sometimes I think we as a community get the events we deserve.

Is this for real? It was bad enough that BHVR maxed out your Pumpkin kicking BP earnings, but now you're telling me we can't even go around mindlessly kicking every pumpkin we see just for funsies?

What's next? The Winter event telling me I'm not allowed to pick up more snow skulls? That'll be fun. I can't wait.

I don't know if it was just me but with some pumpkin spawns it was impossible to get an angle for the game to give me the prompt to kick it (I had the crystal on me). I walked around the whole pumpkin waiting for something to appear and it never did :(

I think they just did a big bug fix so maybe all pumpkins spawns will be kickable now.

I had this happen once as killer but the screenshot being referenced was of an intentionally locked pumpkin. Both are stupid though.

  • Emuchurin
    Emuchurin Member Posts: 23

Yeah I don't really like it being intentionally locked either. I assume it's some balancing thing to not farm pumpkins and immediately get another remote generator skill, but could I at least kick the pumpkin for BP and quests and it just doesn't charge the crystal…

I dont know, I was not able to kick a Pumpkin right at the start of a game, because it was clipped inside one of the beds on Lerys.

If you use the crystal on gen or as smoke bomb you can't interact with any of the pumpkins until the cool down ends. So instead of running around aimlessly kicking pumpkins after tossing a crystal on a gen you may as well hop on another gen instead and speed up the match. What should be a good incentive to get survivors off gens and slow down the match instead pushes them to focus more on gens and speed it up instead.

There are pumpkin locations where you can't interact at all, I noticed while going around as killer every map I played on has a few spots. Devs will say "report on betahub" but I'm not wasting my time on that - if they made them get blocked on purpose when you use a crystal and capped the event BP I very much doubt they care there are a bunch of bugged spots.

  • esarraf
    esarraf Member Posts: 614

I think that's what it is, but also screw them for deciding that. It'd be way more fun being able to harvest pumpkins while it's going or use the portals.

Yup, I can't even play the event because of the nausea and dizzyness from the filter. First game I played I noticed it, after a couple of hours it was so bad I couldn't even stay up, I felt sick. Tried again today and it's the same, it's noticable on my very first game. So countless people are just not even gonna be able to play the event and get quests done without suffering I guess.

I also struggle even seeing details on the map since everything merges together pretty much, so I figured this must be awful for colorblind people as well. I know orange was a big point they missed before, but an orange filter? Really? Can't even understand how they let it pass, so many people have the same issues, it's ridiculous they didn't see it themselves.

Aside from this big issue, personally the event is also just as boring as every year. The 2018 Halloween event was the most fun they've ever made it in my opinion, and when the void came about, it was at least new and creative. I don't understand why they can't make anything new or creative anymore. They just recycle the same boring stuff every year, for every event, for every season. Haven't said anything about it before but it's been so many times just the same garbage every year, nothing new at all. It's not even exciting knowing an event is coming up anymore. No event ever feels like an "event", just points to gather, but not really in any fun or new ways.

I could only do 1 game before I had to stop playing games. I never take eyestrain breaks from games. I guess Freddy is the only character I can play as this entire event.

had to stop playing after 2 games because the filter was hurting my eyes. I don’t know how this made through play testing without anyone mentioning how awful it is to look at.

Brings back memories of Caelid borgo from years ago except it’s every match.

Yeah it's really bad enough with 1 game, it's so noticable. All the maps have different levels of brightness etc, which makes the filter look so different as well from one another. It's a shock to the eyes for me. I get crazy nauseous from the ones where it's more gamma, and things blend together. My eyes work so hard to try and make out any object right from the start.

Someone needs to figure out why the game keeps crashing and issuing bans that last an hour or longer.

Bring Back Free, Instant Teleports and the Void Realm

I don't like the new, 5 second delay to enter a teleport. The best thing about Haunted by Daylight was using the instant teleports and the Void Realm in chase. If the Killer chose to follow you into the realm, you had an entire area of extra pallets and vaults to loop and keep the Killer away from the Survivors running gens. It was the best feature in DBD and I looked forward to Haunted by Daylight every year. Why change something that is good? BHVR did the same thing with map offerings. If somethings not broke, don't fix it 🤦‍♂️

Unfortunately this event is really, really boring. The previous versions were much better, with a rewarding gameplay loop.
