How exactly does player level work?

Do you get iridescent shards each time you level up or each time you play a match?
Does the number of XP you get depending on how many things you do in the match or how long the match goes on?

Xp depends on time in game.
I think its capped at like 578xp.

You get iridescent shards everytime you level up. More you lvl up more iridescent shards you got.
I think that xp depends on your emblems.0
