SWF - Dev's Response?
I know, I know, another SWF post, but I would really appreciate hearing the devs view on this as there are so many posts mentioning the SWF issues with no response from developers. Are you aware of this?
From looking across multiple DBD forums, most players agree SWF is drastically unfair for the killer due to survivors being able to communicate and reveal information about the killers location, perks they're using etc as well as being able to plan who rescues, who fixes gens, who acts as bait and where hex totems are.
Most people are aware you can't stop voice chat, but everyone has suggested an option which would please everyone and that is to allow killers to choose to play without survivors who are in a team/party. Like Call of Duty's Mercenary mode for example.
Are there any plans to add this in the future? If not, how comes? It would mean a lot to hear your opinions.

everyone has suggested an option which would please everyone?
What what what.????... Am I not included in everyone?...
I don't agree with what suggestion you offered...
Devs quiet on the issue?.. What else is there to say?... Do they need to come out every couple of days to tell you to deal with it like everyone else... and that SWF is here to stay?
You know the game got an award from steam as the "Best Played With Friends" ???
Have fun my friend!... See you in the fog!
SWF isn't the end of the world... Deal with it... Learn to play better... Learn to have fun.... and you'll stop giving a ######### about the big bad wolf that is SWF.

Hello @BoredByDaylight
I understand that this can be frustrating for some players but I have some concerns about this.
Is this going to be too much for the killer to choose to play without survivors in a team/party? Imagine if the killer is dodging lobbies because of a SWF team and this group are not able to find any killer to play with because of that? This would be another issue but for these group no? (just to mention that this is my opinion and how I see things) everyone have a different opinion and perspective and that's okay too :)
But I understand your points, I will share your feedback about the SFW to our game designer to see what they think about that.
Thanks!
Have a great day/evening

SwF is quite an issue with low-mid tier killers the simple fix they can do is buffing them.
14 -
Give 2 option(Kill solo mode and Kill SWF mode) to killer to play.
As solo mode, all solo survivors are get in lobby and give some extra bloodpoints on solo survivor for surviving without any communicate and reveal information stuff
As SWF mode, all group survivors get in lobby and give more bloodpoints on killer for doing hard work

Hi @Patricia
Thanks for your comment and response, I really appreciate it.
I completely respect your opinion and understand where you're coming from, however I feel SWF extremely favours and aids survivors. Do you agree with this statement? If there won't be any changes to the game mode that allow killers to play in solo only lobby's, there should at the very least be an incentive or bonus to the killer which makes it fairer for them. E.g. less pallets on a map, 1 less perk for each survivor, longer gen repairs, additional killer bps, 1 additional perk for killer etc. These are just a few off the top of my head but i'm sure there's plenty more.
If i've understood you correctly and you believe SWF will struggle finding matches if a solo mode was introduced, does that not imply most killers would prefer not to play against SWF?

Also thank you for passing on my comments to the game designers, means a lot :)

You also gotta understand that not every SWF group is a sweaty tryhard p3 squadette. I for example often play with friends just to have a good time, we usually just mess around not caring about escaping. It's much more fun trust me. And making killers choose if they want to play against swf or not is kinda lame, they'll obviously choose not to play against it which means swf lobby times are gonna be huge.
Don't get me wrong, I do agree that swf is a bit unfair to killers, but there needs to be a whole different solution.
10 -
The solution is to add voice chat to the game
Nothing else can ever balance out the disparity between solo and SWF
4 -
The solution for killers to select the SWF kill option is to offer them more bloodpoints or an advantage to the game.
2 -
If killers get a gameplay advantage then SWF can bypass that by dodging lobbies until they get one where they are in together
This also causes issues with 3 man SWF and a solo survivor (or 2 man SWF and 2 solo survivors) who will end up getting shafted, even if the disadvantage only affected the SWF (for example less hook states) because their team members will be made weaker than if they were not SWF
2 -
So unfair advantage is allowed?
Why there is no kill with friends?
3 spectators with 100% speed will run the map and tell the killer where everyone is...
As a reward they will get same amount of BP as killer.

Thanks for commenting, I do agree with you and appreciate your opinion. I'm not too concerned on the outcome I just believe something needs to be done to counter this to make it somewhat equal for both sides.

the biggest problem with this that I see:
No killer will choose the SWF lobby.
It would need to be somehting like:
Casual: 4 man's ok
Ranked: Solo Survivors only (or maybe 2 mans?)
4 -
Not a bad suggestion. I'd even happily play casual without ranking up or down if it meant I could play with solo players.
My main reason for playing this game is for fun, not points or ranks. My issue with SWF is at Rank 2 you get paired with 4 friends who just like farming points which is no fun as a killer.
1 -
SWF isn't nearly the problem that these forums would have you believe. I don't remember the percentages, but 4 man teams are actually quite rare. And 4 man teams that are actually good are even rarer. If you believe that you are playing against a SWF team, the thing to do is use that against them. They tend to play more predictably.
2 -
Opting out of SWF lobbies would just increase que times and overall be bad for the game.
SWF can be OP absolutely there's no doubt about that but you can't hinder it in anyway because it's a must have feature for any online game.
The realistic and logical option would be to buff Solo survivors level of information sharing to be on par with SWF and then Buff each individual killer accordingly.
To be honest If I had a say I'd put this as a top priority for the Devs since it'd get rid of most the imbalances and frustrations people have with the game and make future balancing so much easier. I'm shocked they haven't done it yet even if it would take a long time considering you'd have to go trough each killer one by one but In my opinion It'd be worth it in the long run.
3 -
They should just add voicecoms to the game for survivors and buff killers accordingly. This would end all unfair advantages SWF have over solo players and give the killers the right tools to deal with comms. Sure some perks might becomes a little less useful (bond, kindred, etc.) but they can always be reworked to something else.
TBH I rarely play solo survivor because of the massive difference there is between that and playing with my friends/voice comms.
1 -
Solo is an absolute nightmare.
There you go, that's why people really like SWF, because Solo in high ranks sucks ass.
*inb4 "Oh I actually love Solo Q so much, survivor main btw"
3 -
Many solo players will not use voice chat even if it is in the game by default.
I certainly wouldn't. I am not interested in talking to random people on the net.
I play Overwatch a lot. it has built-in voice chat. Ask me how many times I have used Overwatch voice chat.
This is not a solution. Killers need to accept that in an online game, there will always be people better than you and who will play better than you. And that in an asymmetric game, there is no real thing as balance. Some people will play to their strengths better than you will, and sometimes that strength will directly counter yours.
Live with it, deal with it, move on and play your next game.
Killers like to act like they are such victims and how every game is a 4-man Squadette that is out to bully them. We all know this is not true, both from playing as Killer and from BHVR's own official stats.
2 -
did you know that at the moment , if you play in lan with your friends, even if don't play as swf , you have chances to get in a killer lobby togheter? :))) let's say a killer enable "only solo survivors" thing that you suggest... but with a lan party or software like hamachi ... they can do the same :D :D :D
0 -
Discord chat counters this
0 -
Overwatch, like most other online games were balanced around both teams having voice chat. DbD was balanced around 4 survivors unable to talk with each other. When the devs added SWF, and 3rd party voice chat with it, they made the survivors the power role and not the killer.
The game becomes easy peezy with voice chat.
2 -
I'm a PS4 player so don't care that much about Lan tbh.
0 -
Exactly! It's easy with voice chat but there's no way to combat it. I play on PS4 and players would just host private chats. There needs to be a buff to the killer to make it fairer / even. Would be good if you could listen in to SWF chat so you could hear their plans but again it wouldn't work because of private parties.
I think survivors each losing a perk or the killer gaining an extra perk would be a decent step towards countering voice chat in game and making it balanced but i'm sure survivors will disagree.
1 -
1. Close gap between solo and swf
2. Buff killers
3.?????
4. Profit
It's the only solution for this dilemma, nothing else will work or just shifts the problem somewhere else.
5 -
As I suggested multiple times before: Encourage killers to face SWFs!
Make it fun and rewarding to face SWFs!
Maybe a BP multiplier?
Maybe some special features like aura reveal or free Mori after the 2nd hook (same survivor not total hooks)?
Endgame reveal the auras from the remaining SWFs.
If you hook a SWF show the aura of the other SWFs.
This would make playing as a SWF and Killer more challenging and rewarding.
There could be done much more!
Just be clear about the rules and it's counters.
2 -
I agree completely! Encourage killers to want to play against SWF. It's about time this was addressed.
2 -
Call "Kill Solo Survivors"an "Easy Mode" in the game menu
Call "Kill SWF" a "Hard Mode" on the menu.
It's not a lie for most killers, and the recognition would motivate certain people to still seek out SWF so they arent always playing easy mode.
Call SWF "Easy Mode", and Solo Survival "Hard Mode" too

Does anyone think we'll ever seen a solution to this? I'd love to hear the devs discuss it during a livestream or Q&A.
0 -
I think swf can be a challenge for any killer when done right, but the only real issue I see with it currently that I would like addressed is how it effects matchmaking. Swf using low rank members to bring high ranks in against less experienced killers needs to be looked at. If survivors are going to have members far above their own level of skill (capable of a team carry) the pairing should be with killers able to meet that gap capably. This and deranked killers are a hindrance to new players learning & fun.
1 -
lmao quite rare what planet are you on? majority are 4 man swf. a team. lol @ that are good. alot are good and will steam roll a killer. survivor is easy mode. i play both sides a competent team will run around a killer constantly. use that against them. your using narrow minded tunnel vision.
1 -
I play both killer and survivor, and as killer I've encountered strong SWF but also weak ones.
You can't pigeonhole ALL SWF groups because it could go one way or the other. Playing with friends I have found that sometimes we get too cocky thinking we know where the killer is or who they are on, but we are sometimes wrong... and end up making mistakes.
Playing against SWF as killer has also taught me that survivors in SWF are ultra altruistic, which sometimes can work to your advantage.
Your idea to allow killers to cherry pick lobbies is not one that I agree with. Especially those of us who play killer and don't even watch who joins as long as someone joins.
0 -
You can do this, but giving all survivors built-in perks and informational mechanics won't solve the problem completely. Think of this as 1 over infinity, you're so close to 0 but... you're not actually touching 0. Doing your method will be like what I said above, we're so close to completely closing the gap, but we're not actually closing the gap.
However, perhaps that's good enough? Perhaps it's "close enough"?
1 -
I think this may be a console and rank thing. I play on PS4 and am in red ranks (currently rank 3 but it varies) and am always paired with 4 SWFs which are truly a nightmare to play against. Survivors at high ranks only really play SWF from what i've noticed because i guess it's much easier for them. In fact, it's so rare I don't get paired with SWF.

I know, it's not about giving solo ALL information. It would be nearly impossible to get solo to the same level as swf. The point is to close the gap as much as possible without changing DbD completely. Cuz atm the gap is huge, which is just hindering the progress for balancing.
Imo the only things needed (atm) to close the gap a lot is:
1. Show in the HUD who is in chase and not only the obsession
2. Totem counter (idk if visual or audiel)
3. Kindred base kit, especially the feature of showing killer aura when camping.
These things would raise up the efficiency of solo extremely high. Not as high as swf, but very close. This would allow devs to straight up buff killers without worrying a lot about solos much, it would also allow adding a second objective without completely breaking solo.

One thing I would like to see is in the after match report (End Score Screen) what ever you want to call it. Show us who was grouped up. The game is over at that point so in the long run it don't really matter but a few times I've run into the same group 2-3 games in a row and they of course claim they are not SWF.
1 -
Please show (after the game!!!) SWF teammates. So i can die in peace if I got rekt
