Rank rewards should have been prioritized over a battlepass system
You want something to work towards? Rank rewards do that.
You want rank to actually matter? Rank rewards do that.
You want an incentive to stop people from disconnecting so much? Rank rewards do that.
You want to earn slightly more money and neglect something that should have been added to the game years ago? Rank rewards Battlepass does that.
It would have been very easy to do both. Instead of, or in addition to, being able to unlock progress with Auric Cells it could have been possible to unlock progress at rank reset, based on the highest rank you achieved.
Instead we get nothing.

The Rift is going to make more sweaty guys though.
+Unhook 15 Survivors (enjoy getting farmed)
+Sacrifice 4 Survivors in the Basement (enjoy insidious camping)
+Go through 4 health states in a single game (enjoy everyone running medkits)
+Grab 4 Survivors (Enjoy Prayer Beads and Scratched Mirror)
+Sacrifice 2 Survivors during EGC with NOED (enjoy noed)

If I remember correctly there was no rank reset at first, rank rewards wouldn't have made sense in that case (though I may be misremembering that it didn't exist at first, I can't find any news announcing that rank reset was added).
Rank rewards should have been a high priority, long ago.
Over three years into the game and we still lack a proper reason to care about rank.

Its another case of the devs not rewarding their consistent supporters. it instead puts something in place to encourage people to play rather than just rewarding the people that actually play.

The challenges don't even encourage healthy play. NOED. Four basement sacrifices. They took some of the things players constantly come to the forum to complain about and decided to offer rewards for doing it. That's worrisome.

Rank rewards .... Why would they prioritize that?? I mean how do you possible monetize that?
Charge people per rank than you get to grind thru a reward to -maybe- obtain ( with-in a time limit of course)? Hell, let's throw in some ad's too and call it the new loading screen between matches. Next project! Let's get to work!

That would be the smart approach.
There's a F2P game that comes to mind, which makes way more than this and doesn't employ any of these schemes to make money (no battlepass, no lootbox, no ONLY paywall cosmetics etc not even DLCs). They offer ALL content for free, allow people to earn and grind through as well of course as buying (they put out new content as well). And it's fair. Fair = trust = support. It works. It legit works. You make people happy, they WANT to support you. Trust goes a long way.

Yup exactly that. Happy people who see value in your offering will spend money to support you. It is really as simple as that.
Deceptive or unfair marketing practices are met with disdain and tight purse strings.

Rank rewards seriously should be one of their top priorities though...like 3 years ago.
So many features get prioritized that are so unimportant in the scheme of the games grander issues.

Rank rewards would be a huge step forward in combating DCs, Deranking and bullying of new players. I cant understand how its still not a thing...

"Interrupt 4 Survivors" grabbing survivors is mostly luck. Another was "Sacrifice 2 Survivors During the End Game Collapse Using NOED" and those are just level 3 challenges. Keep in mind levels 3 and 4 only unlock near the end of the Rift's life cycle.

2 endgame ones are a bit excessive and i have bad teammates all the time so being farmed isnt too much of an issue. we'll see how it goes. I am okay with the game forcing a playstyle for points and lore and shid.

Red Ranks is literally a gym with how sweaty people are, so it will be nothing different. i agree with OP, rank rewards should of been better then a greedy battle pass, that casual players won't even be able too complete without paying.

The interrupt 4 survivors one will actually be quite easy, just initiate farming and grab a guy off gen and drop him 4x.

On the bright side of this, The Archives is a source of roughly 2 million bloodpoints according to Fog Whisper Paul.
So, at least the grind is reduced just a little bit — just like everyone wanted. :)
Also, they are going to rework the ranking system, but that's towards the end if the roadmap. :D

I second this notion every season should have a special reward for reaching rank 1. Who would want to be at rank one these days. all you get is insta healed and moried by try hard killers and survivors with decked out perkbuilds and add-ons
please add a special "charm" or something for reason rank or whats the point?
