Totem Buff

If you've seen this thread on the Steam Forums, I'm its creator, just transfering here.

A quick thread about Totems.

Right now, the location of a Totem is completely RNG. I don't like this.

I think that there are two potential changes to Totems that would be viable:

A) Make it so the Killer can choose which totem has what curse. This is balanced a bit by forcing the Killer to have some set up before making a chase, but the benefit is that the Killer can make more gameplay choices on where they want their totems active at, instead of spawning halfway across a map and having the totem inactive. The survivors can have a sound notification when a totem is turned on for a curse. A few exceptions would be Thrill of the Hunt or the like. If the Killer has more Hex Totems, they will have to choose multiple totems to activate in order to have their effects, and they cannot chose the order.

Alternatively:

B) Make it so totems never spawn near generators. Instead, totems are invisible to survivors unless they are crouched and within 20 meters of a totem. Otherwise, if walking or running, they will be unable to see a totem and it will be cloaked from view. Sounds will be silenced from active totems. Maybe this would make a good perk, if nothing else.

I personally would like A better since it gives the Killer a bigger hand with totem perks with the small drawback of having to walk the map to decide where to put it. A lot of killers will hide it away, but a killer like Freddy benefits a lot from keeping totems near generators, so it isn't always going to be obvious.

Still, a Totem buff would be nice, instead of relying on entirely RNG mechanics to determine if it is useful or not.

I like these ideas, but I had one where all Totems are sealed and you can only break the seal by

    1. Finding the totem.

    2. Interact with the totem to reveal the aura of a seal in a random location of the map.

    3. Find and break the seal (only the survivors who have interacted with the totem can break the seal)

    4. Cleanse the totem. (After the seal is broken, all survivors can cleanse the totem)

Killers can't see auras of the seals.

This gives totems more life and the survivors an objective to take away a useful perk from the killer.

I can see that being useful, but honestly, what about NOED? Do we have to find it, diddle with it, THEN find the seal, THEN cleanse it? That's a lot of time for NOED to snowball. Sure, its NOED and that's its thing, but a little long in my opinion.

If the devs see NOED as as unbalanced at that point, They can make an exception to that Hex. Or it can be viewed as only Hex Totems get the seals and dull totems don't. In that regard, NOED can still be taken out before it's even used. There are several ways to make those few anomalies work.
