Instead of saying “git gud”, tell people how to “git gud”.
Telling someone to “git gud” is some pretty bad advice, Especially when it was is said to new players who really need some advice. We can all learn new ways to play the game and how to improve but having some advice given to you really does help with that.
So instead of saying “git gud”, tell the person how to improve. You could be talking to a new player for all you know.

"Git gud" has become gamer shorthand to patronize other people who express legitimate frustration about something that either isn't working right or isn't communicated well enough, or to dismiss their difficulties without actually providing advice. It isn't helpful to anyone, at all.

Well that's because people don't use it to give advice.
It's typically just a ego stroker.
It doesn't matter what game someone tells you to get good at

Nine times out of ten that person's just showboating that they won or they're trying to discredit the fact that they lost by nitpicking anything in your performance. " I see nitpicking but that's too generous as they don't really give you any constructive criticism that you did wrong"
In terms of dead by daylight killer typically throughout the words camping tunneling and so on because at this point they have just basically become buzzwords. Hence why if you ask them to explain explain how you tunneled or camped he will either give you vague nonsense about how you should know what you did or they'll describe something that's not tunneling or camping in the slightest

I barely play killer....this one game had today (one of my daily's was with pig) I put a trap on this guys head.
Everyone made it out except one guy, I got my daily of sneak attaching them or whatever, and this one guy just sat at the exit gate teabagging. I got a message over ps4 saying git gud....and as he was baiting me to hit him...the trap went off...

It's easier to insult someone than to actually help. Usually when someone tells me git gud, all credibility is thrown out the window and I lost interest.

I try to give pointers to my fellow oinkers if I see suboptimal strategy (tunneling people with active RBTs is annoyingly common). Most other killers I either don't care enough to give pointers, genuinely think they played well, or I don't have enough respect for their playstyle to say something nice.

Survivors don't say it as genuine advice it just to be a dick. Funny too because it means they could only win against a bad killer apparently.
When i first started playing survivor i did this for literally every killer i played and they were all happy to hear it but now i feel like it would be kind of patronizing to tell green rank killers what they're doing wrong

When the situation is right, I try to offer constructive, judgment-free advice to killers in post-game chat who are struggling. Especially if there is a big disparity between ranks (which happens a lot due to this game's space cadet matchmaking), it can sometimes be a positive gesture.
