Please note: Although we may stop by occasionally, this is not a developer Q&A.

Do you think an average player will manage to unlock all 60 serums?

Let's be real, leveling up on the rift is super difficult because it takes so much time. Despite of what they say, I don't believe they REALLY put much thought or research into defining how much xp you'd need in order to level up.. At less for someone with a life (aka school/work). There's no way an average player will reach tier 47 by the time the event ends. I played yesterday 12 hrs (which is not average at all) and I only managed to unlock a couple of serums.

Thoughts?

Depends on whether not they boost the rift things you get in the upcoming tomes. If they keep them the same as tome 1 then as long as you can do all the tome challenges, you'll be pretty close if 47 is the last tier for serums. If they do boost them then I think it'll be pretty easy to get that far as long as you're making some attempts.

Also, as far as I'm aware, the serums last for the entire tome so we still have 50 some days as of writing this which doesn't seem too bad. I'm sure the time will catch up to some people and they'll be lost though.

It depends, if a casual player plays say... only 4, 3, 2 hours a day... and with how simple a fair bit of the challenges are... than they theoretically could complete the entire Rift with both Tome l Pt.1 and Tome l Pt.2.

But, it really depends how difficult Tome l Pt.2 will be... we don't know until November 13th so I can't say this is 100%...

During one of the live streams (I don't remember which one) I remember them or someone specifically saying that The Rift rewards consistent and dedicated players... It's not supposed to reward casual players that only do them for 30 minutes...

That was kind of one of the points they had... that it would reward anyone who wanted to put the time into it.

You can debate that this is a terrible design choice yourself, but if you think about it through like... common sense... you can see that not everything in this game has to be handed to us you know... The Rift rewards consistency... if you're not consistent with the challenges than you won't get fully rewarded...

But... that's also why each Rift lasts literally 2 months+... so there isn't really an excuse to not completing it if you play rather casually. If you play like... semi-casually or barely at all than you'll obviously not get the full rewards... since you hardly play the game in-general.

    note

We've only just completed Part 1 of Tome l... Part 2 won't release until November 13th (The same day the event ends) and the serums won't stop being collectible until like... 57 days... Anyone who wants them has 100% enough time... seriously...

If they aim to get a Rift Tier everyday for the entire time the Rift is open without spending any money. Then maybe.

I mean, you have 57 days now to get 60 tiers... it took most players that were eager to finish Part 1 of Tome l like... 3 to 4 days at most?

For someone casually doing the challenges... that's like a week + a day at most... or less...

Part 2 won't release until November 13th... and in that time if you've played regular matches than you're around Tier 30 already from all the challenges and just leveling up...

People have WAY MORE than enough time.

No, it requires almost 3 hours a day to get all the rewards, which is unrealistic for normal people.

The serums aren't far behind in grindyness.

We have 57 days, if you've done Tome l part 1 and just played normally than you're probably already at tier 30 or 27...

That's casually btw, if you play like every hour of everyday than you're probably at tier 40 by now. If we have 57 days with a fresh new player, and part 1 tome l took people like 3-4 days to finish... 1 week for casuals max... than it can theoretically be done on time for 60 tiers...

Yes, it'll get harder, but if you look at the main point of The Rift in-general... you can see why this is the case.

They said so themselves in a stream that The Rift rewards consistent players... not "no lifes" but players that consistently keep up with the challenges and play casually or more hardcore.

What they said in the stream and what's actually the case is not always the same ?

So a consistent player can't complete The Rift in say... 70 days (Which was the default time we were given...) really? They can't? *Thinking?Emoji?Intensifies*

You're telling me if you spend 2 to 3 hours on this game at max... and do say... an average of 3 to 4 challenges a day... and there is like 23 challenges in total on Tome l Pt.1... you honestly think they won't be able to finish that in a week?

If you do 3 challenges a day for 1 week that's 21 challenges in total... if you do 4 that's 28... On average most casual players will do 3 to 4 challenges a day... probably more and i'm underestimating it.

If you start from now with 57 days or at the start with 70... you should be able to easily get to Tier 60 with how the estimate goes...

Writing it off as impossible is quite... well... it isn't really reasonable.

I never wrote it off as impossible, please don't put words in my mouth ?

For a causal, 1 hour every few days player, yes, it is impossible. For someone who plays constantly, it is very possible. As I previously said. ?

I'm not talking about rift completion, I'm talking about the serums. The event is about to be over. Will the skins be available after the 13th? If they are available then yeah I guess people can complete the 60 serums without an issue. If they are gone, then what's the point?

    @MissBehavingX

Yes, they'll be available even after The serums are gone for purchase (With Auric cells.)

You can spend your Serums through the entire Rifts lifespan and even 2 weeks after The Rift closes.. the Event and The Rift play by their own time and dates... They're not linked... except for the concept of course.

You made it sound impossible so i'm just assuming.

Regardless, yes it's quite difficult for someone who has 1 hour every few days to play... the same can be said for if you do anything that involves a reward...

Then it should be fine for casual players like myself. I don't expect to finish all rift tiers, at all, even with the tomes. But that's OK. I still believe the grind is a bit more than other season passes out there

If you play casually for a few hours a day doing the challenges than you'll get there yes.

I can guarantee that. You don't even have to play every day to get there... since we literally have like 57 days left, and you might have more or less hours to play... it depends on your schedule.

That's a ridiculous assumption. I've been playing quite a bit and I'm only at tier 21. There may have been 2 or 3 days I didn't play, but there's no way I'd get 6 levels from that. It takes 2 games to get 1, and one game can last between 15-20 minutes. The only way I see people being that high is if they maximize their results by playing literally only as little as they need to a game.

A casual player, I would also assume, would play 1 hour a day. Casual isn't super dedicated to one game, and 3 hours of game time is a lot.

I played about 4-5 hours for a fair bit during the beginning, last I checked i'm at tier 27 and than I stopped playing for awhille... This was like days ago.

Tbh, it all depends on how long matches last, the challenges difficulty, etc.

60 Tiers, half of it is 30. Average of players will reach to 30, half will reach higher than 30, half can not.

The number of people who reach to Tier60 will be as rare as Tier0 (who doesnt play)

So dont be sad if you cant reach to Tier 60. I play 2h a day and currently only Tier9

I didn't play in the week before the release of the Rift so I didn't get the bonus tiers many people got because of an issue with the game's backend. I'm currently tier 19 and I've played around 66 hours since the release. That makes 3.5 hours per tier. The funny thing is BHVR first said the Rift would be manageable even for casual players and you could gain a tier in an hour of daily playtime. 70 tiers in 70 days. Made sense at the time.

I'm at tier 30 right now..

It is possible. But like you said it is extremely hard... which I dont like at all.

I mean, you posted this 2 weeks after the initial discussion, so yes, tier 30 is where many people are at right now.
