Nice to see that they didn't take any feedback for the Archive Challenges
Some of these challenges are crazy and will require nothing but RNG or farming. Things like
"No One Escapes the Endgame" Sacrifice 2 survivors during EGC with NOED in one trial.
"Last Minute Hero" Unhook 2 survivors during EGC in one trial. Must unhook them safely.
These challenges are crazy. It's already rare enough to get a single hook/unhook in EGC, asking for 2 is going to require farming. These challenges are specifically the ones we said we didn't want. The bullshit ones that are either going to take crazy amounts of luck or farming. The Shard count doesn't even increase, meaning it's getting harder for less and less reward. Tome 4 is going to be downright stupid.

Yeah I can't really see myself paying for premium again if I can't get to the last tier either through the challenges or grinding. A lot of these tome 3 and 4 challenges are asinine. Some of these are borderline Korean MMO stuff

It wouldn't be so bad if we were getting more Rift Shards as an incentive to do these, because BP just isn't enough. I've got 1,000,000 saved up already for Oni. If we got a bigger reward for doing these harder challenges it wouldn't be so bad and I could understand them getting more difficult.

We can only hope that they'll look at all the data and feedback after the completion of the first rift, and then look at how many people buy the next battlepass. I think it will take months before they will consider any changes, for all we know the people who are complaining are the minority and that people are still going to be buying the battlepass etc.
4 -
Honestly, I really. Really. REALLY hope that they plan to implement our feedback with the 2nd Rift, because It's not the first time I'd see feedback applied with a 2nd bp rather than changing the 1st (Apex Legends). But then again ... We're talking about BHVR and not Respawn, which one is more accountable is obvious. Well, we'll see I guess, I bought this rift and plan to complete it, but am not buying the 2nd one if they don't change something.
9 -
Imagine expecting to pay only once for the same battle pass.
2 -
Those killer ones are super easy? (OP had two listed when I started writing)
LMH just takes time. The only remotely hard part about it is that everyone is after it at once. But if you play the game normally, hook swapping during EGC happens a lot. That one will obviously take more than one or even more than a few games, but it's not going to take weeks, which is the amount time you have to do it.
2 -
Most of these challenges are disgusting stupid... especially the survivor ones
22 -
Yeah, it does make it feel a bit like "those are just placeholders" was mostly just something players were told to calm them down, even if it was technically true.
Having said that, people do have a tendency to freak out about things without even examining or testing them themselves, and the devs are surely aware of that. If I were a dev, I probably wouldn't have listened to feedback from people who hadn't even attempted the challenges yet either.
This first Tome is a test run. I expect they're waiting to see how many people actually do manage to complete the challenges and/or the Rift before drawing any conclusions about changes that need to be made, because while preemptive criticism has its place, hard data and informed feedback are always more useful and reliable than spur-of-the-moment ideas and opinions.
10 -
Yeah, I too was hoping they'd adjust those stupid challenges after T4 got accidently revealed. At least we now know what to expect.
Most of these challenges just promote stupid plays, SWF and farming games while the rest are just super grindy. Good luck getting some of those while playing solo. Or getting six grabs with dedicated servers LUL.
All you can expect now are farming games and lots of DCs to derank before the update hits.
Pretty good... no, this isn't even funny anymore.

@Peanits Any word on this?
14 -
If anything it's just shown that buying the battlepass is a mistake.
18 -
I mean I’ll try but this has already turned every game into a killer or survivor begging to farm.
I know there’s only so much you can with the game, but some of these challenges are just bland while being very difficult without farming.
11 -
I've stopped caring about the Archive and the Rift thanks to Tome lvl 3. I remember how people defended the leaks with the claims that they're gonna be placeholders, that Behavior would never pull through with something this ridiculous..
I'll get access to that Lore via Youtube or the Wiki instead, thanks very much.
20 -
They said they will look into level 4. By look they mean, Yeah, that's a challenge alright.
12 -
Yeah, it does make it feel a bit like "those are just placeholders" was mostly just something players were told to calm them down, even if it was technically true.
There is no way they were real placeholders. The part 4 tasks had very specific requirements, the descriptions for them were properly formatted and most importantly all there. None of them appeared unfinished. This same company refuses to update the fourth option in the report menu to remove "Ragequitting" as a valid report reason (as the automated system is supposed to handle that) because it would be too much work.
It was always just a lazy attempt to sucker people into buying the battlepass without being able to see all the challenges upfront.
And again, difficulty wouldn't even be an issue if the system wasn't intentionally badly designed (bad for the players). The entire battlepass and challenge system could just not be limited in terms of time to complete it. Let players switch between them at will so they can do the tasks at their own pace that they find suitable. Buy it once = finish it whenever you like.
There is no good reason for this system to be available only for a limited amount of time other than greed.
15 -
Oh, they took it... then laughed at it and doubled-down.
13 -
"We are monitoring the situation but currently have no plans to change anything." EDIT: Not an actual quote, just what I expect the answer to be (if one is given).
16 -
Five of five games so far with people wanting to farm. This just got boring.
(and they aren’t even to the hard challenges)
6 -
Luckily I already completed the rift so these challenges only offer bloodpoints to me. No big deal to skip them :)
0 -
Well for me, I'm not worried so much about the Rift or even the challenges. It's the way it shifts the meta and makes everyone behave and play stupidly.
6 -
I see your point, but I still feel like if greed were really their main motivator there are a lot of opportunities they missed. The Rift is pretty good in some ways compared to other battlepass systems.
For one thing, most battlepass premium tracks contain xp boosters which help you progress along the track faster. This incentivises customers to buy the premium pass early, before they even know if they'll be able to finish it, because the sooner they get the xp boosters, the less work they have to do. A system like the Rift which allows players to progress along the free track and buy premium whenever they want without disadvantage strikes me as pretty customer-friendly.
The smartest and most economical way to go about the Rift is to see how much progress you can make within the time frame, and then buy the premium pass if you decide it's worth it. The fact that such a cautious, frugal approach is enabled and even implicitly encouraged by the way the system is designed, to me, says a lot.
Yes, naturally they will use some marketing tactics such as time limitations and "get all your money back if you complete the track!" to encourage people to invest in the pass. That's just business. But I don't think it's fair to say that greed is their sole motivation here, or that they're trying to deceive their customers or "sucker" them into spending their money unwisely.

When did they take any feedback at all?
12 -
They should let you work 2 challenges at once, one master/luck and one regular/grindy because if while doing one of the grindy challanges you manage to do one of the master/luck challenges only to see it not counting is going to be frustrating, really frustrating.
12 -
This is extremely rare. A topic that both Killer AND Survivor mains can agree on.
Also, it is going to be hell on Earth for Survivors since so many Killers will be running NOED.
11 -
Can we hold off on releasing increasingly difficult tasks until you fix the DC issue and the game as a whole? My first game and a Survivor is disconnected in the loading screen. This is definitely looking like the first Tome I might not be able to fully completed. Hopefully I can at least get to the end.
3 -
If you think these are bad, just wait til you see the fourth tome challenges. I think they were all drunk or high when they came up with those.
4 -
Its like that in every game. You can tell lifetime storys as feedback, nothing will happen, thus the feedback of hundreds was in unison, that many of these challenges arent good for game health.
1 -
Screw the archives. It's a useless paywall to pay off the greed on the devs minds.
I'd rather wait till everything is on the store if they cant simply take feedback due to their greed.
3 -
That's not hard. You see hook tradeoffs happen all the time in EGC when the gate is open. Killer hooks and camps a surv. Other surv comes to save them, succeed, but gets hooked in the process, repeat until ome of them dies and the other 3 escape.
0 -
The whole cinematics are already on YT, you can watch them and read them rn.
2 -
"No One Escapes the Endgame" is easy.
Blood warden + NOED = easy 4k in endgame
2 safe rescues during endgame is BS though...
5 -
They are called challenges for a reason.
I mean what kind of ‘challenges’ do you really expect?
0 -
So this means that the first rift is a test so when can I expect my money back? Because this rift is horrendous.
If this was truly to test the rift and archives then they should've made the first rift free to all players. Then made it a paywall. But nope $10 for stupidly hard challenges with no rewards in sight for it being more of a worse grind then the old bloodweb in my opinion.
Now heres to wonder... wheres my rift legacy skin...?
(Yes a joke about legacy)
6 -
Did Tome 3 drop?
0 -
What I mean by a test run is not in the sense that the PTB archives were a test, but in the sense that this is the first time they've done it, and they're doing it in a way that they think will work, but they're probably going to see how it goes the first time around and then make any adjustments they feel are necessary for the next Rift.
The Rift was intentionally built so that you could wait until the last second to spend money on, it if you so choose, without losing anything. There were no incentives to buy the pass earlier rather than later. So I apologise if this sounds unkind, but if you're having second thoughts you probably should have waited to invest money into it until you had seen all the content and were sure that the premium pass was a worthwhile investment for you.

Yep.

Cool thanks. Have a good day.

Okay, I'll be patient and try these when I get to them. I still don't think they're great as they'll mess with people's perceptions of the game and how to play. It's something I worry about ruining the game- which I don't want. I appreciate your patience, but unlike so many issues, I do sometimes see this one as a bit of a critical concern of the community.
0 -
That's absolutely fair enough. Thank you for being so kind and reasonable in your response. I can definitely understand your concerns, I just think that they would be more compelling coming from the point of view of someone who has made a solid attempt at completing the challenges and can speak from a place of experience.
2 -
Not that hard if you can put together an effective SWF group
0 -
To put it as simply as possible... Doin the rift challenges makes me not want to complete the rift. Other people doin the rift challenges makes me not want to play the game.
9 -
"and they're doing it in a way that they think will work" Are they though ? There are SO MANY things that make people think it's nothing but a cashgrab on their part, that I actually believe it at this point. I'll skip the part of them adding a paid battle pass to a paid game with paid DLC's and paid cosmetics (as DESPITE all of that, this had, and mayyybe ... still has a slim chance to work) and name a few dead giveaways of their incredible greed:
- Simply luck based and/or team requiring challenges
- The grindiest challenges are at the very beggining, as to make sure you can't access the other ones too quickly
- The inability to do a few challenges at the same time, which is the most ######### thing, I can't imagine "sniping" a challenge for 30 games (which isn't super implausible), only to get frustrated, take a challenge off and get the correct circumstances the next match.
- Challenges getting extroadinarily more difficult with each level, but rewards staying exactly the same. (No, an additional 10k bloodpoints isn't a higher reward, not to say, literally nobody cares about the bp part)
6 -
That was very wholesome
2 -
'It's okay guys they'll fix it, they have listened to our feedback, they said its placeholders, they said it can be finished with just 1 hour a day, its challenges lol it wont ruin the games stop being butthurt about it and won't consist of people suicide rush hooks and dying if they got 1-2unhooks'.
When will this community learn, who knows at this point?
2 -
Buying the "battlepass" has nothing to do with these challenges being too random and repetitive. Im done with the rift which is supposed to be the harder one to complete but cant enjoy the lore which should've been accessible to everyone
2 -
I do my best! 😅
0 -
I'm sad about this as well. It seems the only way to get the rewards is not only to buy the Pass, but to buy levels as well. I've been grinding away and hardly making progress. The Tier IV set scares me, and the III challenges are the same rewards as 1 but the challenges are harder (of course, we expected that).
The best challenges are the ones that come naturally, like 15 gens, hooks, unhooks, heals, etc. I know people find those tedious but at least they're stable and not up to RNG. I occasionally miss chances because someone else gets the thing I need, and now I have to start all over in another match.
I didn't read about the Archives so I don't know if the lore is going away after, or if we miss our chance, or what, but I adore Claudette and I want to fill that segment and earn all her rewards in the Horror Pass (or whatever it's called, should be scary-themed, right?)
To reiterate, Challenges are Fun! I like having them, and having goals to work toward, and excuses to use perks I don't normally take, but they can also be aggravating and the Fear Of Missing Out a lot of games take advantage of is kind of a cramp in the festivities of... y'know, killing and surviving a nightmare. If that makes sense.
2 -
It's silly to think they'd change anything for the first rift. If the second rift is just as bad then yeah it's a problem.
0 -
There was pretty much universal dislike over the "safely rescue 2 survivors during the EGC in one trial" challenge. This community doesn't agree on much, so that says something. And what do they do? They include it, anyway. A "challenge" is one thing, but this is winning the lottery, and winning the lottery isn't a challenge, it's luck. And not "find a toolbox in a chest" luck, but "go up against a Bubba running Stridor, Remember Me, and Award-Winning Chili at the same time" luck, something you have basically no control over.
Also, it would've been nice if they'd done something about having to select the challenges. They'll probably never let us work on more than one challenge at a time, but they could at least let us select one challenge for survivor and one for killer, rather than having to go to the Archives and select a different challenge each time I switch between which I'm playing as. I've already screwed that up once, and it hasn't been but a couple hours. It's asinine. I switch on a whim depending on queue time; having to go to the slow loading Archive screen each time as well is not only easy to forget but also a pain in the ass when I remember.
5 -
Yup, I'm not going premium again because a) the challenges are just craptastic b) I can't play as much as I used to due to commitments.
