Homophobic Slurs Allowed?
It's good to know people can waltz around in the end game chat and just casually use the F word and alike without getting punished, I've reported so many people for calling me different slurs alike on steam and the in game chat report system and It's really starting to get old. boo

I always get a good chuckle when somebody calls me that. Such a silly word
4 -
same, other sensitive people might not like that.
3 -
The good side to console is reporting that ######### to the actual systems communication ban people
10 -
Sometimes certain words can affect people differently, especially if you are a part of a specific group. Just saying.

I've dealt with situations like this as well.
If you see a player using slurs of any kind that may offend someone, it's not acceptable, and should be dealt with. To have a better handling of the situation, try taking pictures of them saying the slur, report them in-game, and then report them to BHVR's support page to assure they get punished. I did this when reporting someone on Deathgarden and they were quickly dealt with. It's a hassle, and BHVR should REALLY update their report system (considering it hasn't been updated in forever, as far as we're aware) but, nonetheless, it works.
Here's their support page if you need it for future occurrences. And remember, report them with the in-game report system so that BHVR can track the match, and remember the date! It'll help with them tracking it faster.

Some people don't know when to calm down. They need therapy to address their toxicity and anti-social behaviour.

My stance on this game is always that no matter how annoyed you get you should never personally attack your opponent or your teammates.
I don't care what happened to you in the game if you use a derogatory slur you basically lost all sympathy when it comes to me

Playing a VIDEO GAME doesn't give anyone the right to be racist/homophobic/xenophobic.
What you should be saying is "Don't use communication online if you're a hateful person". This is a video game to be enjoyed and have fun with, not to be berated by 🤡s in end game chat.

this is dumb. So what you are saying is it's ok to be toxic because they need too man up?
Some swears are fine, but slurs should be reported and banned. Don't defend homophobic people who can't loose without their pride hurting.
12 -
If it's a slur against you, it likely changes how you take it.
It's easy to call a ton of words "silly." I don't think someone should have to put up with this. Even if you think that the game offers up a lot more abuse in murder and whatnot, someone shouldn't have to put up with attacks on who they are in the real world. This is a fantasy game: nobody is being slaughtered in real life.
Be kind. Even if a killer or survivor was toxic, nothing justifies real world attacks on a person's race, sexuality, gender, or anything about them in real life.

I only report that crap because there's literally little kids on xbox but then again 10 years olds shouldn't be playing dbd

There's really not another interpretation for the word the OP is expressing other than a bundle of sticks, which... let's be real... nobody is using it to mean that.

You should never have to just "Take it" when it comes to stuff like that.

Yeah but those aren't edgy enough for him. He's no snowflake!
4 -
It doesn't matter what game you play, but homophobic slurs are NEVER okay. I'm no snowflake, but common decency is still applicable.
4 -
You mean an interpretation you're willing to accept. YOUR lexicon is not the dictionary defining the rest of the world.
Sorry not sorry.

The south park episode "The F Word" was a great one for the issue of saying stuff like that.
It's only in recent times that the word has even meant anything to do with being gay, so if it's used as a colloquialism for "bad" basically, I, as a gay person, don't really give a #########. It comes off more as "I'm frustrated and hate you" to me than "Your sexuality is a bad thing."

There's never an excuse to bring race/religion/orientation/identity into it.
1 -
serious bump to these

Try using that as a defense in the real world and see how far it gets you. Slurs are slurs- that is how the vast majority of the English speaking world sees this. You can bury your head in the sand and be sorry or not sorry, but on this topic, you're wrong. It's okay- these things can be tricky.
In the end, the answer is simple: be kind. Avoid words that aren't kind.
6 -
Not irrelevant, you can't expect every single person to be nice to you in a competitive environment. I'm not saying it's right it's just stupid to expect it to not happen at all.

Way to put words in my mouth lol, read my reply above this

You guys are funny

I do use that defense in the real world, because it's true. I'm literally protected legally by the first amendment in the real world. I'm not protected by repercussions of people who are mad at it's use, but that's frankly half the reason to use the word; for the value you get out of it.
That's basically how I look at it. "You're doing something I consider annoying and that word sums up my feelings faster than explaining them." Relatively, "If you don't like being called that word, stop behaving in a way that makes people want to use that word."
1 -
You're getting a bit away from the point here, but also adding to what I'm saying.
In the real world, if someone uses a slur against someone, it can be grounds for different consequences. You seem to agree with this?
And for the record, using a slur that is a group you belong to still doesn't protect you from consequence either.
4 -
You know, it would be a much better world if more people are willing to tell racists/bigots to stop behaving in a racist/homophobic ways than to tell the victims of racism/bigotry to stop being offended by them.
Kind of like how it's better to tell rapists to not ######### women than to tell women to stop being raped by them.

Someone here is starting to sound quite totalitarian. Please stop.
USE MY WORDS OR SUFFER LMAO KLMAO

I'm not telling you what words to use. You have freedom of speech. But even on here, there are limits- there are rules.
Instead of attacking me or directing me to stop and give you a safe space (there's a lot of irony in some of your posts here), I'd love to hear more about what you're trying to communicate. So far it seems to me you're saying it's okay to use slurs because you think some people deserve to be called them if they fit an abstract definition? I'm sure I'm missing something you're saying, so please explain a bit more.
2 -
Racism or Homophobia shouldn't come with this game
6 -
It's almost like you can't tell me it's a slur because it's offensive to people, but since I'm part of that group you still feel some overwhelming need to be right.
I'm gonna let you sit in suspense while I watch some Wraith play. bbl~

It's a slur because it is offensive to a group of people. (Pretty much every slur is born out of a desire to hurt or mock a group of people, often born out of connections between stereotypes and other prejudice- even when self-imposed by the ingroup.)
I'm honestly not understanding what you're saying anymore (this last post uses some vague pronouns that make me question if you're talking about me, Azgard12, or you, SonicOffline) and by now you seem really distracted and a bit lost in this conversation.

Any slur that could offended somebody is something that shouldn’t be tolerated. It just shows that they are disgusting people.
Microsoft and Sony are pretty good with giving people communication bans though.
I’ve been called basically every kinda slur through PS4 even though people have no idea who I am. I had to turn off my messages because it was affecting my gameplay. Like every single round I got some kind of nasty message even when I did nothing wrong.
It doesn’t personally affect me because I’m extremely quick-witted and sarcastic so I use people’s emotions against them. I guess it pays off to be a Scorpio XD.

Dude I would say the exact same thing to anybody who plays Call of Duty, Dark Souls or whatever game this happens in.
I'm not expecting anyone to be overly nice or constantly generous at least expecting people to act like decent ######### human beings.
It doesn't take any effort to be a decent human being just don't say ######### things it takes effort to be be a douche.
If you want to call someone trash or say their gameplay is shite fine but if you want to shoot out slurs you're an awful person There's a reason the toxicity of the Call of Duty fanbase became such a prominent joke.
Also if you're going to try to justify people using derogatory slurs as people need to stop being sensitive then you literally need to get a taste of reality mate.
6 -
This is a good approach (and PS4 does 72 hour bans when people use slurs on first offense).
I think the key to all of this isn't that we make apologies for every word anyone could be offended by. For example, if someone called me... a "chicken nugget." Well, that's just a weird thing to say, not offensive. But if someone WAS offended by this, I'd be surprised and wonder why. I probably wouldn't call them that again, but think it was a bit ridiculous.
The slurs I'm talking about are the ones the gaming community seems to employ too often that we all know are wrong. Many of us have grown up with them or become used to them. Doesn't change that it's wrong and we should know better.
1 -
Agreed. Attacking a player’s gameplay is all fine and dandy.
Attacking a person personally is terrible and disgusting. Personal insults are what people use when they have nothing better to do with their time and they’re mad they got outplayed.
4 -
I will never personally attack anyone. Calling somebody trash is different than spewing out racist/homophobic slurs that MOST people know is uncalled for and highly offensive.
If somebody calls me trash then that’s great...I’m golden trash.
Somebody saying nasty slurs doesn’t personally offended me because I’ve always guarded myself with humor and sarcasm so I find the fact that they are THAT mad to say those insults to be funny.
Some people might not be the same way though so it doesn’t make it any better on who they throw insults at.
1 -
Keep up the positive approach! We need more of this in the community.
3 -
You just descended into full blown troll.
1 -
I agree. I don't care what your stance is on certain words. It's disrespectful and against the game's rules (aka you get banned for using the word).
3 -
Most game's let things get heated but Racism or Homophobia Etc should be the line.
1 -
I met some guys on the internet who want to make a boo cake with me. Not sure what it's made of but it sounds festive!

Jokes on them I am one. ASHSDLASDJ
But in all seriousness, people have said some disgusting vile ######### on my chats and on my profile, set it to private but they'll track my pictures and reviews down to leave stuff there too.
I'd get into the the game and occasionally browse another players profile, and I'd still see these people leaving that stuff on other peoples profiles too. like #########. if you spent as much time leaving this vile stuff as you do playing, you'd actually be decent at the game by now.
1 -
You don't have one, and I'm not putting words in your mouth, it's what you are implying by simply saying "man up."
0 -
Or maybe be considerate?
