Is this camping?

Weird situation happened in game, and people called me out for camping. I don't really think I was, but let me explain.

Was running Pig on Lery's with Amanda's Letter and Video Tape addons, perks were BBQ&C, PGTW, Ruin, and Spies (this is the important one), and I'm in purple ranks. After the game's been going on for a bit, I hooked Survivor 1. Survivors 2 and 3 were injured, and Survivor 4 was healthy. As I'm about to leave the hook, I get Spies going off in a line- someone's coming to the hook. I think its the healthy guy, so I hide and crouch so I can trade him for the hooked survivor. I hear him coming, see his aura, ambush... its one of the injured survivors, and he goes down. Lucky me!

As my ambush cooldown ends, Spies goes off AGAIN in another direction- "This has to be the healthy guy, no way these survivors are that dumb." I hide again, hear him, see the aura and ambush... ITS THE SECOND INJURED GUY! I'm laughing my butt off, but then...

Spies goes off AGAIN. I couldn't believe it- this guy just saw me down 2 people next to the hooked survivor, and he's rushing the hook! So for the third time- hide, crouch, hear, aura, ambush, and hit the last guy- he's injured now. Instead of unhooking or healing one of the two downed guys, he runs to a pallet! After a dozen seconds or so of looping, I down him. Now the hooked guy just died, and I have three downed survivors.

With BBQ and Amanda's Letter, I found them quickly and hooked them. As they all died, I figured matchmaking put me with green or yellow ranks... but nope! They were all purple, and the hooked guy was red! They were super salty, calling me a camper- it was great! But honestly, they never gave me a chance to leave- they rushed the hook one by one, ignoring how the others got ambushed, and never went to heal or unhook. I'm not camping if happens, right?

TL;DR Survivors rushed the hook one by one w/o healing each other, so I downed them one by one. I knew they were coming cause of Amanda's Letter and Spies from the Shadows.

Stop listening to survivors, nothing good comes from their "advice".

I hooked a survivor in game last night, two other survivors were on a gen just 10 meters away so I chase them away and then see someone going for the rescue and down him. I watched the VOD back of a streamer in my game and they're all camper! camper!

Bye the sounds of it you crouched damn near the hook several times to attack the rescuer you knew was coming. Even if you weren't very close, it is at least proxy camping. At no point you intended to leave the hooks area.

It's not proper camping - you had an active nearby target. The emblems don't even punish your proximity because it recognizes the difference. It could be called proxy-camping of a fashion, but calling it simply 'camping' without a qualifier is laughable - and anyone who called it facecamping would be too silly to take seriously as a sapient being from that point on.

You aren't supposed to just let them do it. Soooo no. It's called a survivor was being dumb xD Or overly altruistic

if you wanna be nice about it

I would have actually said no it isn't camping because they ran directly at you. Most of what people classify as "camping" is just waiting for a survivor to attempt the unhook without provocation. These survivors actively put themselves in the line of fire very early in the unhook stage.

Also, @HealsBadMan, nice to see some Pig love going around. I'll have to try that add-on build!

This isn't camping really, they came to you and you knew they were coming, you probably intended to leave but they didn't really give the option to unless you throw an easy kill

Thanks! I think its really good, emphasizes the ambush dash and really works with stealth- its best on LOS blocking maps like Lerys, The Game and Hawkins.

Huh. I normally just used Video Tape/John's Medical File/Combat Straps with Nurse's, BBq, Ruin and Surveillance. Worked pretty well on just about every map. First hit with dash, then relentlessly chase them until down.

No wallhacks though, so you'd need a headset with volume to what some people could describe as uncomfortable.

That works well too- I just use Amanda's Letter on those maps, bc the range on it is tiny and only on those maps does it work well. Otherwise its very situational, even a detriment bc it damages the trap potential so much.

I think they would have left had they not heard survivors coming in for the save a second after hooking the person. So they probably did intend to leave except for the fact the survivors weren't very bright. Idk if you play killer but if you have a perk or addon that lets you KNOW someone is coming, why should you leave?

Now, scrolling down the forum I saw Peanits say that it is camping but agreed they had no reason to leave in this scenario. Personally, I wouldn't have seen it as camping considering they came in immediately... The survivor rulebook of "You have to leave the hook immediately and let us save even if you know we are here" is dumb.

Not really camping imo if you don't give the killer a chance to leave, at that point it is your fault.

It's camping in the same way as camping after the generators are completed. Is it rude? Yes. Are you out of line? No.

I would hesitate to even call it rude. It's just the Killer using a winning strategy. No Killer in their right mind would leave the hook when the exit gates are just a few feet away and ready to open.

If you really don't wanna deal with a camper after the exit gates are powered, just escape.

Who cares camping is perfectly fine and is not punishable. Just have fun and do not break the rules. Camping, tunneling and slugging are perfectly fine. Let them hate they are lashing out because they played poor.

First time I agreed with you on something, we are making progress.

At that point it's meaningless semantics. Either way staying to down them all was the right move and anyone flaming them for it is just salty.

There's a reason that I wait to see what happens, generally healing during that time. It's so stuff like this doesn't actually happen to me.

This is where an argument for the "perk was put in to be used" comes in because if it was insidious for example it's one of the best tools for camping but if it wasn't meant to be used it wouldn't be in the game or it would be nerfed

Nah man, spies is a great perk, but results in being accused of camping too often. When I play spirit and hook someone, if spies goes off I'll start phasing in one direction and literally just circle back to the hook and get an easy down on someone unhooking. Happens way too often, so I get accused of camping. But I'd be an idiot to just run away.

That being said, no I don't tunnel the person who just got unhooked. That'd just be a dick move lol

Yeah what Peanits said. More importantly didn't they see the movies you die if you don't play by the rules.😂

Is it camping? Yes. Is that a bad thing? Yes.

Not because the act of camping is a bad thing, it's bad that there's currently a big reward for bumrushing the hook while 2 other survivors are both racing you to it, whether the killer is there or not.

lol no that's not camping. They were clearly trying too farm each other and completely failed at doing it, so they had too protect their prides instead of accepting their failure.

Even if it was camping in some Universe, the game allows it so who really cares? Play how you want too play long as it stays within the rules.

It's not a bad thing that you were there.

It is a bad thing that the Survivors were there thus justifying you being there.

Not camping at all (coming from a Survivor main). You were just matched with some mega boosted survivors lol. Survivors that I usually get matched with when I solo queue...

You were playing effectively and that is all... were you in the area? Sure, but what do the survivors want? For you to pretend like you don't see what their doing? 🤣

... oh wait *flips through survivor's handbook for killers*... yep no, you should have walked away from hook, move to other side of map, and let the survivors heal one another and regroup. You messed up!

Kidding aside...people think camping is 'dirty' or cheating and it is not. Its part of any killers gameplay and the more you play you will learn when to camp and when to keep moving.

You clearly knew what to do in this situation and it paid off. People just like to blame others for their losses.

Low key, I had a survivor die on hook because his team didn't get them... a messaged popped up immediately calling me a trash camper.... I was on the other side of the map the whole time doing gen control... after that I stopped caring about salty messages and now just giggle at them.

    Keep up the good work!
