Comparing DbD with Fortnite
Comments
-
DLC in dbd is dirt cheap, and most of it can be earned by just playing. Idk what ur point is
0 -
Well did you know Fortnite started in 2011, give the devs some time to be Great.

Patches would be faster if they weren't trying to sync PC and console versions.

I don't know why you just like to pull information out of your ass, but here's some actual statistical information on PUBG's & Fortnites player bases at the time:
PUBG was a more popular game than Fortnite for a decent portion of 2017. You're saying it never was more popular, when it actually was. Despite it being a worse game, it was still at a point more popular than Fortnite. Exactly why popularity does not equal a better game.

i mean...
comparing DbD to Fortnite is like comparing Apples to Bananas...
but yeah im gonna give this a read xD

Fornite came out at the time when battle royale was taking off.
Pubg paved the way and showed how popular the format could be and fortnite used that existing formula and expanded upon it. It was made ftp while others were still pay to play along with graphical options which weren't as harsh so even weaker system could run it.
Epic were simply smart in what they did and how with the existing formula. They didn't create something from scratch but used what was there and added a building mechanic.
You can't compare a billion dollar company to DBD. Not to mention epic aren't that great a company as they have been many reports of staff being mistreated working long hours without a choice.
DBD is a very niche game with a small dev team. They started with around 30+ staff and now BHVR have over 100+ but not all work on DBD. It's about resources and time and DBD is far from what Epic have.
This is akin to comparing a locally owned store to a huge chain store like Wal-Mart and asking why they are more expensive.

I wouldn't compare this game to Fortnite. this is NOT a large-world Battle Royale Game.
If we talk about who's the biggest kid on the block. Usually it is Blizzard and Epic Games. That is a comparison to size and success.
1 -
1- you sent data about interest on the game, not popularity, plus that's from 2017 and fortnute still ends better
2 - I repeat, I played the witcher 3, you didn't, I'm telling you there are still scary monsters and scenes.
0 -
I'm tired of explaining my reasons behing the "one is a billionare compamy the other isn't"
I still do compare both companies. Having less doesn't mean you update a game every 2 months instead of less time to fix it and still have it broken but your company doesn't care and just go party hard expensive plus giving ipads and google homes to every single one and upload it on insta.
Behaviour is clearly not poor. See the steam stats and watch the top 15 most sold in 2019 qnd plus it with the DLCs and auric cells sellings

I guess that's what happens when you make a good game...
1 -
1. Fornite is much less complicated than DbD, so it's much easier to make quick adjustments.
2. Epic Games is bigger than BHVR, both in staff and budget, which half of how they can be constantly making new stuff...
3. The other half of that is that Epic Games is always in crunch time. Their programs are constantly being pushed to do more work in less time, and after the initial enthusiasm wears off, they quit because of the huge workload or are fired for not meeting it. And there are so many talented young computer specialists who would love to work on one of the biggest games in the world, so they never run out of new labor. Aside from the fact that Epic Games is exploiting its workers, I'd rather have a dev team that's been with the game from the start and really cares about it and the community than a ferris wheel of programmers getting whipped by Mathieu Cote.

Bringing Fortnite into these hallowed boards free and pure of any BR madness

Pls read my edit 4 and 5

But they can't be compared as they don't have the same resources to work on the game itself.
If multiple people disagree then maybe it's not them that is seeing it wrongly?
If one store has 2 employees on a check out compared to another having 20 which one serves the customers faster? Its common sense to see why a company with more resources is able to do a lot more within a set time frame.
You simply cannot compare two companies unless they have an equal number of people working on a game and even then without it being the same game there are multiple differnet aspects between them.

Yep. This is a forum to discuss anything as wanted, as some people show them off themselves with their personal lives off-topicly in the general discussions c:

Please read my edits 4 and 5 on the main post regarding to this

I don't care that you don't think money matters, because it does. I'm not saying don't compare Epic and BHVR, I'm just saying be careful what you wish for.
1 -
You read wrong. I mean that bhvr has enough money and they act like if they haven't
0 -
I'm not denying that BHVR has money, I'm just saying they don't have the kind of money Epic does
1 -
That was a reference to their funds before Fortnite.
0 -
Money that they used to hire devs to create Deathgarden instead of putting those devs to work on their flagship game.
I dunno, it didn't seem like a good business choice at the time, but everyone was excited because many were and still are frustrated with the current state of dbd.
1 -
The edits mean nothing.
BHVR's earnings in 2018 were stated to be around 109 million which helps fund not only this game but many including other projects for the future. DBD alone is said to have brought in around 35 million of that.
Epic in 2018 made 2.4 billion which again funds many other things.
You can see a vast difference between the two companies.
DBD team is rumoured to be around 100+ while fornites is over 700. Again a vast difference.
It's clear why one can do a lot more than the other as in terms if hours worked on fortune can have 6 or 7 times as much.
2 -
How would you define popularity, if not by "interest in the game"?
0 -
You don't need to pay a guy 2 billion dollars to release an update earlier. Simply as that
0 -
Popularity-people playing it
Interest-the capacity of make people play it
0 -
Of course you don't thats not the point.
The point is one company has so much more resources in terms of money and manpower. Being able to have 6 times as many coders working on one game will make a huge difference to the support it can have. That's just simple math and logic.
0 -
Having more and more coders actually ends being confusing and a lot of more cooperation between everyone at the same time
0 -
Not really as fornite has around 6 biomes so teams can be split into each one. They you have the ones who makes the characters and movement and then the weapons and potions. These will probably have a bunch of testers for each biome.
DBD has 33 map variants along with 18 killers and a huge array or perks to work on all of which all need tested to make sure each one works on every map after a patch. Survivors are different with only 2 real models so its just the perks for them really.
0 -
I'm speechless. You can't compare a AAA company game to an Indie game. You can't compare a game with MUCH LESS variables than DBD. It's completely ridiculous/absurd/outrageous/ludicrous/pick whichever synonym you like. DBD is an Indie game that got popular. But even then it doesnt have the millions of concurrant players that Fortnite has.
2 -
Just to be clear, are you suggesting that having a larger number of programmers working on a game is a bad thing because it creates a case of "too many cooks"?
0 -
Having more than needed
0 -
How do you define how many are needed, though? The comment you were replying to was just saying that Fortnite has many more people working on it than DBD does. Surely there's no way to surmise from that that the Fortnite team is too big, yet you seemed to be suggesting that it's more of a hindrance than a help in this case.
2 -
Exactly fortnite is just the same thing over and over on the same map with the same structures battles and actions
2 -
no sarcasm \ wow this is deep
0 -
idk about other console players but we always get smoked by pc players it's a lot easier to aim with a mouse than a joystick
0 -
You act like Epic always had that money when this company seriously was made in a garage.
0 -
You specifically said that PUBG was NEVER more popular than Fortnite. So the fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter when the year was or when Fortnite overtook it because in the end it was more popular, whether you like it or not. This alone disproves your own theory that popularity = a better game.
Secondly, you can say that all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that it isn't a horror game. It just isn't. Its marketed and branded as an action-roleplay game by the creators of the game.

L O L (does that seem disingenuous? Sorry :c)
About the edited bit at the end about top game = company rich.
They are paying (or for) a separate studio to develop a mobile version of their game, they've recently invested in dedicated servers, and income from licensed killers has a big ass hole in it or costs them a lot up front.
Fortnite was developed by a larger team with more experience and backing from Epic with a design targeted to children and microtransactions that the children tend to not be wise about buying too much, DbD's code is sorta spaghetti rn, not gonna lie, and is a mature game. The older audience tends to make better decisions with their money (this means fortnite's making more in that sense).
Saying every killer since Huntress has been a paid killer isn't true. Every killer since Huntress you have the option to pay for. You can buy non licensed killers and survivors with in-game currency. I personally make enough shards to buy a perk or two off the shrine and saved up enough before every OC release. It's definitely possible.
While your right about the speed of bug fixes and such, comparing the two games isn't great as they are so different in complexity in every way. Game breaking bugs are fixed more often than every two months in DbD btw. Fortnite disables weapons because they can. Are you going to expect them to, for example, disable basement hooks?

While they have increased their staff size they haven't done anything out of the ordinary with the game. The only "big updates" we had were the ingame shop and now the rift both of which are meant for microtransactions. We still don't have a second gamemode nor have we had events, progress on dedicated servers is sluggish at best and optimisation on console is non-existant. The only thing I really notice a difference in is the rate they pump out cosmetics. New killers have been consistently released every 3 months so I'm really scratching my head at what all this new staff is doing except for making new skins.
0 -
No clue, you'd have to ask them.
All i know is that throwing money away would mean nothing at all would've been added, ordinary or not.
