The (free) Rift and the Tome Challenges

The free Rift:

  • 31 Levels do not grant anything
  • 24 Levels just grant event currency
  • 2 Levels grant a survivor only charm
  • 3 Levels grant a killer only charm
  • 4 Levels grant a multi charm
  • 1 rare Survivor piece (Nea)
  • 1 rare Killer piece (Huntress)
  • 1 uncommon Survivor piece (David)
  • 1 very rare Killer piece (Hag, DLC)
  • 1 very rare Killer weapon (Trapper)
  • 1 very rare Survivor piece (Claudette)

To sum it up, we have 44% of complete empty slots, and by adding the event currencies, which shouldnt be part of the Rift but more an event on its own like its used to be, we have 78% of no rewards in the free Rift. From my point of view this is insane! Its just an illusion that you get rewarded for the Levels. The remaining rewards consists of 9 exclusive charms (13%) and 6 cosmetics (9%). With the cosmetics you only get one piece from a character (also one of a paid character you may not even own), the remaining two are locked behind the paid Rift, which doesnt make much sense too (just looks like bait to pay for the additional pass or to buy them afterwards in the shop).

So I think that the free pass is far too worse for what it takes to complete it. Even currencies shouldnt be a reward of the pass at all, it should still be events on their own to encourage people playing the game seperately. Its a really poor habit to combine those two, just because you Devs lost all interest in performing events.

Solution:

  • To gain a feeling for being rewarded: add some Iridescent Shards for "empty" slots. This could be sumed up to a whole outfit (21.600 Shards). A side effect would be that players would be able to access perks needed for challenges via shrines much easier, which makes it more of a feeling to being able to complete challenges without having to lose something (ACs or already earned Shards) you otherwise woulnd be able to complete.
  • To erase the bait of cosmetics: Give the whole outfits related to the Lore Characters in the free Rift e.g. all 3 pieces of Claudettes "Lab Intern" Outfit should have been available in the free Rift, replacing the other Nea and David cosmetics (therefore putting these cosmetics into the paid Rift). Same with the Trapper. This would make the whole concept of the Archives more consistent.
  • Addition: you could offer blank shop cosmetics like "Unlock one rare survivor cosmetic"


Tome Challenges:

I think there shouldnt be a progression route, cause in most Tomes there were challenges that could cause a stop to any kind of further progression until the particular challenge would be completed, making it literally impossible for casuals with average skill level to complete the Rift in time. Also challenges like "Kill the Obsession X-times" shouldnt be a thing since its only promotes unhealthy gameplay to secure progress. And the gain in Rift Fragments is to low if you aim at one hour playtime per day.

Solution:

  • Make all challenges standalone (free to choice)
  • Make a Challenge "Complete all Challenges" to compensate for the end of the progression route
  • Let players activate more than one challenge at the same time (two, maybe three)
  • Maybe make (master) challenges re-appear after halftime of each tome to get more Fragments via Challenges
  • Lower the XP needed for 1 Fragment (from 800 down to 600)
  • problem: afking to gain fragments via XP (maybe make an new status like Rift Time equally to XP but being caped at 820)
  • Remove any challenges that promotes unhealthy gameplay, just make them varianting gameplay-wise (like use this and that perks) or long term (when being able to activate more than one)

    Ahh I forgot to mention the charms of the paid pass! Its reallxy sad to have so many recolored charms instead of new ones. Like there are 4? Leaf charms and thingy charms (those with the candles). Thats shouldnt be repeated the next time. Just make charms from perks, chars and this tuff. There is enough to take.

    1. They should remake how fast you can progress through the rift.
    2. They shouldn't add Shards (or atleast not that much) to Free Pass slots. (mostly because you can buy characters with those and its just not beneficial for them)
    3. And i agree with challenge changes.
