I’m not worried about Ruin

Hey guys. I wanna start by saying I play both sides. My experiences with Ruin are basically when I’m a survivor we can never find it but when I’m the killer, it’s popped within the first minute of the game. I learned to overcome Ruin as a survivor, and I’ve always had this feeling as a killer I was wasting a slot. I’m a green rank killer and with how screwed up matchmaking is, I’m going against purple-red ranks who fly right through it anyways.

I guess what I’m saying is I’m not bothered by the nerf because it just took up a perk slot, I have started to learn to patrol my generators without ruin and it really can be a challenge.

Tier 3 corrupt intervention is very helpful, because in most cases ruin was only helpful in the beginning.

A good gen set up I have:

Freddy with Thana, BBQ, discordance and pop. If you know how to effectively use these perks with him, you’ll be fine :)

Freddy is one out of 17 and has the best gen defence in dbd..this is irrelevant to the larger scheme

This post isn’t about him, I was just mentioning my main set up in general. Without even playing him with that set up I’d be fine, just recommending it to players who may wanna try a new set up.

I'm glad ruin is getting its change. It made playing survivor boring and was a nuisance. This change will be healthier for both sides I believe.

It made killers get so much pressure by doing nothing, but also made them rely on crutch perks like such to perform that well.

Though gen rush will be still inevitable, maybe with this change it can open scenarios of increased gen times. If ruin remained in the same state it was, AND they increased gen speeds, ruin would be overused since it gives even more.

As someone who tries to not use ruin since I want to improve my gameplay, I am really happy with these changes :)

I understand the reason for nerfing it but I think the nerf was overkill.

    They should either

    1) make it not a hex anymore

    or

    2) make it so that when a gen isn't worked for x seconds (I dunno numbers maybe 30/40/50) it automatically starts regressing

Let me preface this with the fact that I haven't touched ruin since the Plague came out. But I really, really don't like the term "crutch perk". Because anything can be considered a crutch if you look at it a certain way. Sprint Burst is a crutch for survivors with bad positioning. Dead Hard is a crutch for survivors who misplay. Borrowed Time is a crutch for survivors who perform unsafe unhooks. The list goes on. Ruin was not a crutch perk. There are no "crutches" besides maybe old Mettle of man. Ruin was a perk used by killers to slow the game down, since that is a killer's primary way of gaining momentum. It was the only way for killers like the clown to exert pressure on a map. Now it is gone. And the "Ruin" they're replacing it with is another "win more" perk like Dying Light. A perk that doesn't help you until you're already winning. All this change is going to do is reinforce the high mobility slugging meta to exert map pressure and avoid losing the game in five minutes. Doesn't that sound fun for survivors? Long queue into an unfun slug race. I can't wait!

They did not do this for the good of the game. They did this to chase new players and the one sided enjoyment of survivors. The biased tone of the Dev Blog told me that much. The funny thing about all of this? New players don't stick around that long. The devs are courting them at the expense of their own playerbase and will be left with nothing. When you have survivor mains criticizing you about a killer perk, you know something is very wrong.

popping 5 gens and ######### off after ~4 minutes and tbagging furiously at the exit gates @ the nerd that dared to play a killer is gonna be SOOO healthy. Cant wait. my dwelf bells are already jingling HEAVILY.

I just don't get why people are that upset right now. The devs will obviously look at the data given. Maybe this new ruin will get it's numbers increased, maybe gen times will be increased, etc.

It's too fresh to see if this is going to seriously impact much of anything. Relying on 1 perk instead of your own skill is kind of sad, and if you're in red ranks because of this perk, then it will put people back to the rank they belong.

If I'm going to be honest, they will most likely nerf some of the meta perks that survivors have if they show that they're overperforming. Ruin wasn't healthy for the game, at all. Sure, there are plenty of perks that need looking at on both sides, but meta perks must be toned back at some point.

    I'm worried about ruin.

Corrupt intervention isn't instead of ruin.

Thana is useless. Just 4-8% delay after long chase.

I agree, as a survivor Ruin made me very good with skillchecks so powering through it becama really easy, and that's true for a lot of experienced players. Against them Ruin is a wasted perk slot.
