Can I unlock Free Songbird without having Kate?

So my question is if i unlock Kate's outfit from the BBQ event will i get that outfit as soon as i unlock/buy Kate or won't I be able to get this outfit?

  Yes, it'll be unlocked whenever you unlock/buy Kate.

  You have it unlocked and when you purchase Kate either in ingame store or steam store, you will have that outfit.
