Why won't you prestige?
I don't get why people think it's useless...
They do have a purpose, three actually, bragging, intimidating as both roles and being used as stealthier skins for survivors.
Trust me, once you get to level 50 on all your characters, you're gonna want something to grind for...

Why would I lose all my perks, items, and offerings just for a cosmetic? I hate grinding.

- Not a bragging type of guy.
- I prefer to be underestimated in these matches.
- And the Skins I have are fine.
Long and the short I don't got enough practical return on doing Prestige. Cosmetics don't do it for me. I like the stuff I've collected and use it.
3 -
yeah I've never understood why people (who clearly put enough dedication into the game to prestige multiple times) don't want to prestige. like, you're gonna waste many bloodpoints on killer no matter what, since most of them are add-on dependant, while survivor's perks are strong enough at tier 1 that even a level 20 build can still be viable.
2 -
Cause you can get them back and have a cosmetic that denotes your experience in the game, get better and of more common appereance items and addons in the Bloodweb, with an "award skin" that not everyone has.
0 -
I don't care about the skins but I prestige because I like the challenge of starting a character over from scratch and seeing what I can make out of a new bloodweb.
P.S. The better rarity on items is nice too.
3 -
My Kate is P3. I have not used either of the 3 cosmetics this year.
I'm not exactly the type that wants to brag or "intimidate" my opponent.
Also I don't really care about stealth. Most of my favorite skins are quite B R I G H T. ๐
Also, having to restart every time you prestige... no thanks. The grind is already annoying enough.
1 -
And are you gonna be the one to get them back for me, or am I gonna have to grind for them, which I hate? Why would I sacrifice my enjoyment of the game for a useless skin?

This has no logic unless you only use one character, if you do not prestige and have lots of other characters in level 50 with all the perks you want just change character and use those BP on the character you're grinding to prestige. In your logic, you have characters at level 50 and don't want to prestige, but you're still earning and wasting BP on characters you've maxed, why not use it to prestige OTHER CHARACTERS you're not currently using and then switching to them to grind for others and so?

Let me put it in more practical terms. Let's say I like to play Spooky Myers (a lot) and try him out on maps he struggles on. In my time of focus on Myers I've built up a HUGE number of Scratch Mirrors and Boyfriend's memos. I can play that Build whenever I want to test it on any map I want to test it on. If I Prestige I lose that choice.
Let's say I want Infinite Tier-3 and have built up a rather good number of the tufts of hair. Do I really want to flush them?

Only thing I won't do is prestige all my Survivors. I prestiged 2, I MAY prestige a third but that's it. Don't need Survivors that are interchangeable.
0 -
This is why.
I mean if its your thing then great go for it but I personally think its a waste of time. Plenty of other cosmetics are dark and stealthy I don't need to grind up the blood soaked ones purely for that.
The bragging rights are really just, I spent enough time on this to get that, its kind of an everyone gets a trophy level of achievement and nothing to brag about really. Any genuine "prestige" from it is imagined.
It doesn't denote skill it denotes time spent online which isn't that intimidating either.
So the three points for prestige as stated aren't very convincing to me.
As a pragmatist the only reason I see for getting prestige ranks is "I want a particular cosmetic". If you want to put in the time to get the cosmetic then go for it, but that is really the only tangible reason.
2 -
Personally, I won't prestige at this point just to repeat a grind for a perk that may not appear for 100 Bloodwebs. The skins are just meh imo. Nothing flashy, and the increase in rarer items doesn't really appeal to me. I'm happy with what I get now really since I rarely use the higher add-ons anyways
0 -
Well yes, in this case, if you only play one killer, I get it, but if you change killers you can always forget about myers for a while, grind with another one and use the BP to prestige Myers and get all the things you want and had without prestige, and then, go back to myers and own people in an AMAZING full bloody skin. Specificly Myers and GF are the killers I like the most in P3
0 -
Fair enough, but I only play one Killer until I feel I'm competent. Sadly, I'm not there yet but I'll determined. Every day getting a little better. Eventually, I'll feel I do Myer's justice and move on to another one. Perhaps after I've gotten competent in all the Killers I'm interested in, then I'll go back and think about Prestige.

Pretty much this. I hate the grind in this game in the first place to get the various builds I want to run, or try out, on my favorite killers. I've zero interest in redoing the grind on the same Killer just for a bloody skin or more high-end add-ons.
If I've done the grind and gotten the perks on a killer I enjoy, now I'm going to do what I prefer to do: run different builds and try out different things across various maps to see what works or doesn't work for me, and what's fun and isn't fun for me. The DbD grind is what I have to slog through to get to this point.
Grinds don't keep me playing a game, and never have. If they did, I wouldn't have jumped between so many different MMOs over the course of 20 years of playing them.

I've been grinding for almost 3 years. I'm done, I've regretted almost every prestige. I've got a lot if P3's with bad perks. Even without prestige you still have to grind way past level 50 to get all your perks

I haven't prestiged anyone since losing my data (although I had many P3 all perks before then). I've currently got all killers LVL50 with all perks and 14 survivors at LVL50 with all perks.
Personally I'm not motivated to prestige again ever since losing my progress. I was under refunded BP (that I spent days manually spending, ty devs) so I never prestiged anyone to ensure I had enough to max out all the characters I had maxed out and P3'd beforehand. I've never prestiged any character since then, either. Don't have the motivation or incentive to do that anyway now that there's a bunch of cosmetics I can purchase in the shop or gain from the rifts.

The grind is annoying but some of my favourite head cosmetics are the default ones, like Meg, Adam, David and Dwight. So I really wanted to have those heads with the blood on them. Now because of my OCD, I need to get every survivor to P3. Even if I have no desire of using their P3 head.
Currently saving up my BP and shards as my next survivor I want to level up is Felix. I love his P3 face.

Damn, I do pretige some characters just cause without ever using the skins, hehehe. OCD?

I play two to four matches a night, usually. I don't spend hours and hours a day doing this, so what I earn isn't all that much. To prestige and lose everything, just to have to regrind again for a useless cosmetic? Something I won't ever use? Pointless.

It is annoying. As I donโt like Janeโs P3 cosmetics for example and I never wear them. But I โhad toโ get her to P3 so she wasnโt the odd one out. I just canโt stand my survivors looking โmessyโ by having uneven levels. ๐ข

It's not like COD Prestige. You only go to 3.
Prefer other outfits. Even for immersive play.
Once you get the set of perks on tier 3 no reason to reset.
As others have stated.
To each their own

I decided early on that I was going to main Jeff, so I unlocked everyone's teachables then went through the grind to get all perks tier 3 on jeff. now that I've done that I'm going through and bringing everyone else to p3 50. once everyone else is done I will pick one survivor (probably dwight) and max all perks on him. only after that will I P3 jeff. I just really wanted to have an infinitely flexible survivor as soon as possible.
For killers I kinda doubt I will prestige any of them, since each has a different play style it really limits you to drop any back down to 0

Online games (MMO's especially) have the completionist mentality as a large part of their hook. I gave it up a long time ago and feel better for it.
How many wow dungeons did I grind for gear. Vanilla black rock depths still gives me shivers. Guild master and main tank I got every one of my guildies onyxia keys. Never again will I go down the black hole of internet grind.

I like Grinding for P3, it gives me reason to play.
Most of the time I donโt even show off the P3 Cosmetic but itโs just satisfying to see the prestige 3 emblem for me.
I heard some rumours of devs eventually giving out rewards for prestige characters so hopefully my grinding will pay off.

Because prestige is useless. There's no tangible benefit from prestigeing a character.
1 -
I like the grinding fixed like selling add on item offering back
for the most part don't mind p3 of characters give me something to do but it needs something like I said above.

I see people say a lot at these forums that the grind gives them something to do, gives them a reason to keep playing, etc.
I see that as a major design problem with DbD as a PvP game. A PvP game should not have to rely on a grind to keep people engaged and playing.
I've been in Overwatch since its beta, as an example. Overwatch has zero grind. A hero is a hero, their kit is their kit, and the draw is learning the heroes and getting very good with them. Your skill versus your opponents'. It's kept me around for 4+ years.
In Paladins, it was experimenting with the card loadouts for my characters and discovering different strengths, weaknesses, and playstyles (I loved my Healing build Skye, for example, who is actually a Flanker role character, not a Healer, by default).
DbD should be about the PvP and the perk builds that can be done. But what I feel like I see more often is: well, the grind keeps me going. That's okay for an MMO or something like Borderlands, but it's very telling about a PvP game's design if the grind is the keeper.

Bragging? How? Every rank 20 has prestige skins.
Intimidating? How? Every rank 20 has prestige skins.
Stealthier skins? I really don't care about stealthing around after 4000 hours.

still say selling add on item offering back would help before you prestige character sell they stuff or let us sell the useless stuff back maybe for half the price.
another thing all survivors should share the same item add on and offering pool but killers only share the offering pool
how these idea sound?

I have Prestige'd a few Killers but no survivors
I don't feel it necessary to prestige anymore
0 -
I prestige everyone to p3 but only because I have absolutely nothing else to do with my blood points. But lets not try to sugar coat it and claim it is anything other than worthless.
1 -
I tier 3 prestige my bubba and my steve because they are my favorite killer/surv but other than that the grind is just too much for me to do it on all characters. Theres just no point imo.

Do you happen to know my friend, Corey Trevorson?
1 -
Rare addons and offerings appear more frequently the higher your prestige level is. It just makes sense to get to P3 before maxing out all your perks.
1 -
Hahaha you're the first person to get the reference in my name :D
1 -
I prestiged to get the achievements but now I don't prestige my characters anymore. I make sure I get all the perks on them and I like to collect offerings, items & addons so I'd rather stack up on those.
I don't use prestige clothing either, because I prefer to use some of the amazing cosmetics from the store at this point.
0 -
The only benefits you get from prestiging is bloody clothing and a slight increase on higher rarity items in your bloodweb. Not every one is interested in the clothing which is okay. We have a whole store(and rift) with clothing that is usually preferred over the bloody clothing.
The slight increase in better items will also make your bloodwebs slightly more expensive since you will still have to spend bloodpoints on those items. Which is a reason why people dont prestige. In my honest opinion the lower rarity addons for killer are sometimes preferred.
I personally prestige my characters, since I like to grind. But wanted to put some reasons down that I have heard on why people wont prestige.
1 -
I only prestiged once as jake Cause I wanted bloody jacket
0 -
Too costly for the most part. I might prestige Cheryl again. (I did it on Switch, but since moving to PS4 I still have yet to get all my perks back at this point). Maybe if they reduced the grind a bit. Cut BP cost of all items by 1000 BP would be a good start.
0 -
I don't care about cosmetics and I don't like grinding. Prestige is an intentional waste of time to take advantage of people who need a carrot to chase rather than just having a good time.
0 -
Nope, i had all characters at P3-50 at one point, then when new characters were added, i didn't want to level those to max. at all.
I'm not a bragger, i'm intimidated by skill and not blood, and i don't really care how hidden my Survivor can be, i wear what i like.
0 -
I prestige because of crippling OCD and a feeling of incompleteness. Otherwise I wouldn't do it because it offers zero benefits. The rarity thing is nothing also because certain rarity addons for killer for example are usually garbage or better. Even so you don't notice it because it's random anyways.
There needs to be a consistent reward for prestiging.
Prestige should give the following
- Loadout Slots per prestige (We should have 3 or so by default)
- Some sort of discount on the bloodweb or for perks
- Maybe a BP bonus for playing as a prestiged character but this one is debatable
Bam suddenly prestige is more enticing to everyone as it actually gives you benefits.
0 -
Fun fact: I do only use one survivor. Regardless, I'd rather have all the perks in one survivor and be done with the grind than level up every character until they have all the perks (which takes forever) and prestige them one by one just for a cosmetic. Grinding is just not fun for me.
2 -
I do it on all killers and my main survivor but I refuse to level other survivors past 40 because they are just shells and I have no intent to play them anymore last that
0 -
I prestiged Steve because he is my main, and I like the bloody face paired with scoop troop clothes; it makes him look more like him from season 3.
I probably won't prestige another survivor until there's another event like a bloodhunt or something that gives us items like the gatau. It's just too much of a grind under normal circumstances. 1mil+ BPs just to get to level 50, and then probably another million more to get every perk to level 3 once you can't prestige anymore.
Edit: That's like 5mil BPs to prestige one survivor, assuming you start from level 1 no prestige.
0 -
I haven't prestiged anyone yet but that's because I bought all the character DLC and I've been playing the game on and off for two years now and haven't gotten everyone to level 50 yet. I'm almost done leveling all the survivors (just need to do Tapp and Felix when he releases) and then I plan to start prestiging Meg since she was my original main. I actually really like the look of most of the bloody cosmetics so I'm kinda looking forward to using them, I can however see people thinking the grind isn't worth it. For me it's just something to work toward in the game, I don't care about having a specific set of perks or items on any character as i like to try out different builds anyway.

I wish I could wear what I like. If Im seen and made to run, it's game over for me. ๐ข

Well it's not like i won't die.
I just put fashion over escaping. ๐

I don't play enough to want to grind all perks once more.
