Hey, so uh, about that colorblind mode...
https://twitter.com/i/status/1351710502943125504
Transcript: "Alright JC, it's getting really boring just blabbing about colorblind mode all the time, we've heard it a million times, we know. Continuing to, to badger us about it isn't going to change anything.
If it gets done it'll get done when we'll, when we have time to do it, or if somebody decides that it's something should- that should be done. Ya know. We, we know that a lot of players want it, we know it's not a small number. We get it."
I get that he was probably annoyed at whoever JC is, but this is, imo, a real ######### response. Its not just some feature or change people are asking about. I'm not here to argue whether it should or shouldn't have a colorblind mode (I think it should, for the record), but this feels so casually dismissive of people with a disability.

Almo says a lot of things, but this was unexpected.
8 -
the dbd twitter also tweeted about it
transcript: “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This is not indicative of the views of the team, and we deeply apologize for any frustration or harm this may have caused.”
”This is not how we wanted to reveal this, but we feel it's the right time... we have been working on a colorblind mode for some time now and we are planning on a release shortly.”
“We want to make sure this is done the right way so while we are hoping to get this into the next major release, we are unable to commit on the release date just yet.”

Awesome! Glad to see they actually addressed his comments. And the color mode is super hype.
6 -
im glad too, his comments were very unprofessional- im surprised hes even being defended on the forums.
but yee its nice to see theyre taking steps to implementing accessibility options

IMO Almo is correct here. Asking multiple times for something where the Devs already said they are aware of it and there is put work into will not speed up the process.
Thats like kids asking their parents on a long car ride "When do we arrive?!" every 10 minutes.
It is quite ironic that the community, who throws ######### at the Devs whenever they get the opportunity to do so complains about a more direct answer.

In my opinion Almo should issue his own apology, games should be accessible to everyone.
5 -
I agree to cause even though Almo can say some questionable things he is not in control he doesn’t control what he works on he needs permission from the head of BHVR he’s just a game designer he’s not the boss

I don't often agree with you but i gotta say I'm 100 % on board with what you just said
0 -
Hey, any time you can rile up a good portion of your playerbase about accessibility options while also staying completely silent about those very options you already have in development, you gotta do it. Just a 5d chess PR move.

I don't think colorblind people asking devs when they will be disability friendly is comparable to kids asking their parents when they will arrive. It does legitimately sound like being dismissive of the issue.
6 -
Well that was some fast damage control.
1 -
This is another big point, even if he knows that the Team are working on it, he is probably not allowed to communicate it. Especially not on Twitch where it can be clipped and distributed.

Dont get me wrong, a Colorblind Mode should have been implemented years ago. Maybe not from the start, because the success of DBD was certainly a surprise, but it should have come long ago. (And it is a big oof that the new UI has features which make it harder for colorblind people (injured state))
But asking for the same thing over and over again will not speed up the process. It is not that this topic (and other topics) need to be brought to the Devs attention, they were aware of it.
0 -
That does not excuse the response. You don't respond to disability concerns with "We're getting bored hearing about it."
8 -
I'd say the fact that the new UI is making things LESS colorblind friendly absolutely warrants bringing up the issue over and over again until the devs make it clear that they will rectify the issue in some way.
4 -
So now that they add a colorblind mode can we all agree they only do it because they were forced to do it and not because they actually wanted do?
they are only adding these modes to pander to colorblinds and their supporters, just because they want their money! Not because they actually care!!!

I mean, I can tag you daily with the same thing here on the Forums, if you like. Maybe every 4 hours or so, I tag you and ask you always the same question.
I guarantee that you will be annoyed (and I will be banned).
1 -
Completely agree. Like I said in OP, colorblind mode itself is a different discussion. Even if he can't say they're working on it, his response was extremely disrespectful and dismissive of legitimate concerns from a disabled portion of their game audience
6 -
Not the same thing. I'm not a dev who is making things less colorblind-friendly.
4 -
To be fair, the same applies to Almo. He is not resposible for the new UI.
I am probably biased here since I am also a person who gives direct responses and have no problem to receive those responses myself, but I can understand your point.
1 -
This is beyond disrespectful. I am surprised, I didn't expect that from Almo.
Definitely doesn't align with their general ideology of trying to be inclusive and progressive. This is....disappointing to hear.

@Almo is human, when hes on twitch he is ideally not suppose to be working. So I can get getting annoyed by constantly being peppered by the same questions about his work. He is human after all though his hair looks like the protagonist of Yakuza Like a Dragon. anyway getting off topic.
He is also at the same time a representative of DBD and BHVR, he is a public figure so he should at all times remain professional. his comments were anything but that. his comments while he is streaming is often anything but that. Almos recent situation brings up an interesting debate that has been active in the world of game development in the past couple of years (honestly since that whole guild wars 2 dev disaster). how transparent should game devs be? I think ultimately the more visible a specific person is within a dev company the more pressure is put upon them to represent the company because they do at all times. This means that maybe BHVR as a company should pull back with the amount of streaming they do both for work purposes like their dev hangout streams and their personal streams. Or they need to be more strict with separating work from personal life, IE no asking devs questions about DBD on their own streams.
2 -
Ordinarily I'd agree. But considering this is actually a very important thing for alot of players, and BHVR not being good about follow up. I can see why people pestered them so much. Also considering it's been requested for years I get people losing their patience.
3 -
Almo is unfortunately pretty bad with communication which can be seen in this clip and in some of his answers. He's also one of 2 devs that communicates with the community outside of Q&As - this leads to harassment of bugging him for things unrelated to his department and for things he says extremely poorly. If DBD was more transparent and gave answers outside of Q&As or when the players are pissed (see Halloween event statement and now this) there'd be less going to Almo's stream and spamming it until he gets frustrated and says something dumb that's clipped. Their Twitter they ignore the people that have issues like colorblind while only responding to those that praise them so what happens? Those frustrated people head to Almo's stream where they can bug the guy until he answers. DBD PR team needs to do better so people quit spamming the devs.

I'mma be honest. If I got asked the same question over and over, I'd just set up a bot command with the answer.
!Colorblind
We are aware of community desire for a colorblind option, but we don't currently have a timetable for when we'll have more information.
a bit more formal, but would avoid issues like this. Or you could just not be dismissive of disabled people. I love Devs who interact with their community. I also think that words matter regardless of intent. Hell, if he came out right now with a "Sorry, I was just annoyed. I didn't mean to downplay the issue of being colorblind.", it'd all be water under the bridge for me.
3 -
I don't think that comparison is correct. Despite the Devs saying they're aware of it, this has been something people have been asking about for literal years now. The problem is that the community never gets a heads up on what is being worked on or what should take priority, the Devs continually just release whatever they're working on be it finished or not.
5 -
In fairness, BHVR has a lot of devs and each dev has their own tasks they are working. Expecting a single dev to know everything currently being working on is unfair to them. Almo is likely not working on implementing colorblind mode and bother Almo or any other dev about it is not constructive in the first place.
BHVR does do things like post dev blogs and streams where they do talk about upcoming features and changes and you can argue they don't utilize that enough. But I don't think it's fair to expect the devs to talk about everything they are doing all the time.

I'm closing this, you're free to discuss the colourblind mode of course - it's pretty exciting and we're happy to finally be able to share something about this.
But the personal attacks on one of the Developers is not going to happen here.
